  1. interesting...i think really the contract is attempting to rid those communities of practices that are terrible: abuse, financially manipulating the wife, laying claim to HER assets and income...

i think this is very cool...you know in parts of pakistan, the nikahnama/contract has the woman's right to divorce crossed out with magic marker...I made sure to check mine and made sure it was in English :)

I don't think the concepts in themselves are new and revolutionary per se BUT I like how the contract is reiterating that marriage is a partnership with both parties having rights and responsibilities.

a step in the right direction indeed...

  2. weird..idid she give any indication of what was missing? We also had a similar situation where we had a previous I-130 that the officer wanted to check out and she had to request it from some office. We were told to inquire in 120 days if no news was received. We had a letter and it had 4 checkboxes and the officer checked off the one that said "more papers need to be reviewed."

Hopefully you will hear something soon esp since you have the 60 days window!

    Best of luck...

  3. Is there anyone else out there that seems to be having trouble getting a good job even after they have the EAD just because they dont yet have the green card??? I was let go from one job - they hired me on my temp EAD then wouldnt keep me on with my real EAD...#######!! then several other interviews have come and gone and been really good, except they have always got hung up on me not having the green card!

This is frustrating in the extreme!! And it's so hard to explain to people, even though i shud have the GC in a few months

totally feel your pain..has been an issue for my husband in med/dental field. What field are you in? I think that they don't realize that they do not need to SPONSOR you. It is an awkward situation to be in. Have you had the interview etc? Best of luck!!!

  4. Hi everyone, I know that I have been advising ppl to write to the ombudsman and I had some moderate success with their office last year with my husband's EAD. I thought we should start a thread to track the response time. I sent something to the ombudsman July 11 and it has been two weeks now. Does anyone have a number that one can call to confirm receipt? I knew I should've done delivery confirmation or sent via courier!

I wrote to him this time about our I-485 and I-130. USCIS touched the I-130 on June 29 and NOTHING since then.

  5. I called USCIS yesterday to find out what was going on with my AOS. The recording stated an RFE had been issued. I never received anything by email. When I spoke with a USCIS rep., they said nothing showed on their computer. The rep. sent in a request for a case update. She said it would take up to 30 days for an answer.

Anybody have this problem? How long did it really take to get an answer? I filed AOS at the end of March and received both the EAD and AP with no problem. Obviously I cannot even guess what is going on until I get the RFE in the mail.

Your problem is not unusual. It happens to many. That is why I have a lawyer, he has contacts in USCIS and can expedite things and iron out problems

I want your lawyer. :) my lawyer SUCKS...but I don't even use them that much anymore..they're pretty useless...

  6. re: tax returns..I filed in 2005 when hubby got here but without a SSN or an tax ID number. at that time, i was told he couldn't get an tax id number (or whatever it is called) since he is eligible for a SSN. What I did was I filed as married filing jointly and the return in less due to the lack of a SSN. then about a year later I filed an adjustment, explained the SSN situation and reclaimed that amount.

  7. oh i loved it.. :) I kind of like the couple where they held up a sign that said "it was not arranged" I get that question A LOT. A former boss had the gall to go behind my back and say "oh her wedding was probably arranged" to which my colleague said "actually it wasn;t why don't you ask her?" :)

tastefully and beautifully done...plus i love kareem salama's voice...

  8. how else are you going to get back?

One possibility would be to have the green card mailed but that's pretty risky. I'd be more worried about traveling on the AP and having the green card denied while out of the country.

Green card denied while out of country?

yes--sadly the above has happened and to folks who were very well established in the US in their communities!

  9. Your I-130 cannot still be pending if you already have your 10 year green card. I'm guessing they just haven't updated your case status on the website yet.

Yes, that's what I am thinking about it, but I am not 100 % sure, so I haven't tried Form I-824:

    ---

    1. Form I-824 is used to request further action on a previously approved petition or application. Note: I-824 is not for verifying status of a pending petition/application.

    ---

This is really annoy, USCIS (online case status) website is not reliable, National Customer Service Center (NCSC) is also not reliable because I think they are using the same data you see on USCIS website, the last option that I have is I-824 to know really the "real case status", however, I-824 is "not for verifying status of a pending petition/application", so I don't know what to do, I just want a copy of the approved I-130 application.

most likely you're good to go...and they have no updated the case status but you have the greencard and the 10 yr one! You're lucky. We are waiting and have no approved I-130 and thus no approved I-485.
