Hi Everyone!

So I have a friend that is a Greencard holder. He is a British National that has been in the US for more than 30 years (he has been in the country since he was 1)

When he was 18 he left the country and did med school. Med school lasts 5 years abroad and he did definitely come back every 6 months... if not maybe a little after that to the US to see his parents.

He was done with med school in 2000 and had reapplied for a green card at that time and got another GC.

Now his GC is expiring in September 2011.... his wife wants to apply for citizenship.... but I told her since he was out of the country a while back.... maybe it will create problems based on the continuous residence requirement... Also she told me when he was 18 he had applied for citizenship... and they rejected it (I don't know why... but I am assuming it had to do with one summer he was abroad studying and didn't come back for that summer... so I guess a period of 9 months he was out of the country)... but then why would they give him another GC?

The wife doesn't know if she should apply for his renewal green card or for N400.... the N400 asks for every single place you have visited since you were out of the country and they both don't remember where he has been over the course of 30 years......

They are worried... they have 3 kids..... can anyone give any advice as to what to do?

I will take my Canadian passport.... just in case We had gone to Turkey and were basically out of the country for 3 weeks.... no biggie just a family vacation. I just wanted to make sure I had all that I needed.

I searched the database to see if my question had been answered but I didn't see anything so I gotta ask:

1) My oath is in 2 days -- one of the questions is if I have traveled since the interview... which I have. Do I need to bring a copy of my itinerary or my Canadian passport to show them the dates and prove I was not out of the country for longer?

My ceremony is at the LA convention center with 6000 other people....

2) Apart from the obvious items to bring to the interview -- Green Card, completed form.... it also says "Any other immigration documents"..... but I don't know what those other documents are.....

I called today and the 1st tier officer was telling me the same blah blah I knew... she told me there was no way to know if they did receive my letter to change the oath ceremony and I had to insist 3 times to speak to a second tier officer.... I think she was offended.

In any case I got transferred and the 2nd tier officer said I was in line to be rescheduled, the action was started yeterday ( I sent my letter in on Feb 14th) and that i should hear something in the next 2 weeks, if not I should call back.

I had to reschedule my oath ceremony as my hudband and I were going abroad. I wrote a letter ,sent proof of travel about a month ago and I have not heard anything as of yet.

Does anyone know how long it takes? Is there anywhere I should call?

We are leaving for Istabbul on the 22nd and then moving on to Karachi from there. The trip is a total of 3 weeks and we will be back on the 15th of March.

My next question is, do I make an Infopass appointment or do I mail the Oath letter notification back with my itinerary?

My husband thinks I should mail it back but I really think I should speak to someone face to face... Or should I just call them?

So I got my oath letter, but my husband and I had made plans to go to Turkey and bought our tickets already. I had mentionned it to my IO during the interview and he said... well don't panick, just bring proof of travel and the oath ceremony can be changed.

But I am still freaking out because I don't want this to look like I am not interested in becoming a citizen because I AM!! I don't want it to look bad on my application... I don't know what to do!

Please help! (sorry for sounding so dramatic)

My IO didn't even want to look at my tax returns. He said he already had a copy of it all. He DID go through all of my bank/credit card statements, asked me where my insurance policy was and if my husband was my beneficiary and vice versa. He was very interested in seeing proof that we were still legally married but he did not touch my tax returns.

Hi Everyone,

So today I went in for my interview. I got in 45 minutes early, seeing how my appointment was at 10:30 am. We waited and waited and waited and then at 11:30 I was finally called in.

The IO was nice...... He sat me down, tried to get his computer to work but then made me stand up to take my oath. We sat down again and right away we went into the civics questions:

1) How many US Senators are there?

2) At what age do men enter for selective service

3) What is the capital of United States?

4) What is the ocean on the east coast?

I am sorry I can't remember the other 2 questions but I will post them once I remember.

My interview took an HOUR.... yes you read that right. The IO was nice and had a story for everything. Even while going through form, he would ask me a question and then jump right back into some story.

Now that I think back, I feel like some of his comments and stories really had no place in an interview. At times I felt like I was being baited to say something negative. I don't want to go in the specifics but he kinda smiled through the whole thing, I just feel like some of his comments were inappropriate and dare I say racist.

He went through every single piece of evidence I had. Then he wanted to see my life insurance with my husband, which I did not bring. I am very very ####### so I am not sure why I didn't bring it but I had a lot of other stuff.

That took a long time. Then he told me well... the thing that really saves you is that you have a child because most people don't go through extremes to fake a marriage with a child. I just nodded my head.

He has sent my forms off for approval but he said I was not out of the woods yet. Someone had to look it over, do more background checks, then come and consult with him and THEN they both have to agree on my file. As per him if I have God Forbid done something illegal, then the armed forces, marines, interpol and what not would come after me. He then smiled and I said ... no God Forbid that will not happen.

So now I impatiently wait to be approved cause the guys has me freaked out. I wanted to share to make sure you are all aware of these kinds of interviews.

I live in LA and will be having my interview in about 9 days. I can let you know how it goes here. I had applied in September. As far as Oath Ceremonies go, it really depends. I saw the dates for the Oath Ceremonies until March and there aren't any scheduled for L.A. County.
