  1. We got notice that we are scheduled for an interview for AOS on 8/13/09! Pretty fast, we just filed in May!

Can you tell me how to prepare? What are they going to ask us? I get nervous of being put on the spot!

Also, if they approve it that day, how long before we will get the card? How long before we could travel to visit his family?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thank you!

  2. I have a question - we are currently in the process of getting my husband's status changed to permanent resident - he is at the biometrics appt stage. He is from Venezuela, and his family is still over there.

His mother has applied for a tourist Visa to come visit us - we don't know if his papers will be complete by that time, and it's sometimes hard to get a tourist Visa from the Venezuelan government, so i was just wondering if there is anything that would help them approve her Visa, such as us writing a letter requesting her to come over and including proof that we are married or something like that? Or is it something that we can't mess with and just have to wait and see what they say to her?

We really want her to be able to come and visit us, and we are nervous that they might say no because my husband has had some problems with them approving his Visas to come over here in the past, and knows a lot of people who have been denied.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    THANK YOU!!!

    :D

  3. I have ANOTHER question - go figure! :star:

If we received a RFE for our I-485 (they just want my husband's birth certificate translated into English), will that put a hold on the I-765 and the I-130 as well or will they keep processing those?

For the I-765 we received a notice that they are going to be sending the Biometrics letter, but now will they not do this until they receive the RFE back? I didn't know if EVERYTHING is put on hold when one thing is.

Let me know. Thank you all so much! I love this support!

    Have a good day.

  4. I got my RFE and they want my husband's birth certificate translated into English - we translated it and now we are going to take it somewhere to have it signed and notorized. Can someone check over this and see if we have done it right? Will that be sufficient for them? (I have attached the birth certificate copy and the translation)

Also, do I have to submit any other papers or documents with it aside from the original letter they sent us and the translation?

I don't want this to be held up any more - any help or advice would be appreciated!

    Thank you!

  5. So I got my RFE in the mail on Friday - and what it is is that they want my husband's birth certficate translated by someone into English (it is in Spanish). How do we do this? Does it have to be a certified translator and do we have to submit any kind of form or anything with it? Is it going to cost me MORE money?!?!?!?!? :)

I want to get it done ASAP so any comments or suggestions would be grately appreciated! Thank you!

So can my husband translate it himself? He is proficient in both English & Spanish - let me know if that is ok or does it have to be an outside party?

    Thank you.

  7. I signed up for the CRIS immigration notification service, so it notifies me when my cases are touched. I had filed the I-130, I-765 and I-485 concurrently - we are waiting on the biometrics appointment date (we haven't received it yet), and I just got an email saying this:

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: REQUEST FOR INITIAL EVIDENCE SENT, CASE PLACED ON HOLD

On June 8, 2009, we mailed a notice requesting initial evidence in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence requested. Meanwhile, processing of this case is on hold until we either receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once you submit the evidence requested and a decision is made, you will be notified by mail. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your mailing address.

Does anyone know what this could mean? Is it normal or is there something that I did wrong? Let me know if you know please!!! I just want to prepare myself.

    Thank you!

  8. So I got the first NOAs on my I-485 and supporting paperwork (can't believe I did it all right the first time! So happy with that!) and my checks were cashed!

I signed up for the CRIS case status system and when I put in my receipt numbers it said that the case did not exist or couldn't be found. So I called the USCIS to ask why and they said because the case is transferred to the local office (in Tampa, FL) for quicker processing, so I can't look the status up online.

Does anyone know how I can check the status? Or do I just need to wait. The lady was very nice and gave me the address of the Tampa office but said they don't provide the phone numbers (I guess because everyone would be bothering them).

I am patient and it's only been a couple weeks since I turned in my application but I just wondered if anyone else has been through this or if there is any advice on what to do. Also it's kind of annoying because I can't really track well on here for other people since I can't see the status online.

The next step is the biometrics appointment, so I am hoping we get the notice for that soon!

Thank you for any advice! I LOVE this site!! I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

First off, don't believe anything that the "USCIS mis-Information Line" tells you. They often don't know the answer to a question, so they just make stuff up. They have given out so much bad info over the years that people have gotten themselves in all kinds of messes because of it and they don't take responsibility for what they say. They would deny it.

Anyway, I doubt your case has been transferred to the local office that fast. It's probably still being processed before it gets transferred to either CSC or your local office. You should have biometrics about a 4-8 weeks from the date you sent it.

Yes, you can track your case whether it goes to CSC or the local office. The problem is that the online system is very unreliable. They do not enter all the cases into that system right away. Sometimes, cases are not viewable until after biometrics. Sometimes, they are never viewable. And sometimes, you can view them as soon as you get the first NOA. It's a crapshoot. And even after it's viewable, it may not be updated on time. My stepdaughters gave both received their EAD's and AP's and their cases still say "pending"

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO right! Thank you so much - I went back in the other day and entered the numbers again, and this timet he case came up! I guess you can't believe what they tell you on the MIS-information line! Thank you!

  10. Should I be worried?? I sent in the AOS forms for my husband's green card a couple weeks ago, the Delivery Notification from USPS says that it was received in Chicago on 5/16/09. I still haven't heard anything from them, no NOA, nothing - and they haven't cashed the checks yet that I sent in with the application.

I am starting to get nervous that something was wrong with my application or something - how long does it normally take to respond - should I be nervous?

    Thank you for any advice!!!

  11. My husband is from Venezuela and we just applied for Adjustment of Status, and I have a couple of questions and I would really appreciate any help!

    1) I sent in the following forms - I-130, I-485 (including I-864) and I-765. I sent them certified receipt and they received it on 5/16/09. How long will it take for them to issue me a reciept number?

Varies - week to months - usually shorter.

    2) My husband is here on a student Visa, the Visa is now expired but his I-20 is valid until 6/1/09. Will that cause any kind of problems? I am worried about it and I hope it won't!

    Should not be an issue.

    3) Also do they approve the I-765 before the actual I-485 so that he can work before the AOS is actually approved?

    Usually.

    4) How long does all of this business take?!?!? It seems like on here there are some real horror stories!

Again varies, fill in your timeline and you can compare it with others.

Thank you for any help, I am sure I might have more questions in the future!

    What a great site!

Another question that I have is that his driver's license is about to expire too, on 6/1/09 - can he renew his driver's license with an expired Visa? What paperwork would he need to bring the DL office? Thank you!
