  1. STATUS UPDATE:

    Decision

On July 9, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision.

  2. Not so fast. Are we talking about a checkpoint south of Marfa? There wasn't room for one on that highway, that I recall (but it's been 3 years since I've been there). Is there a checkpoint in Marfa? Is it new? I don't recall one there, but I was always heading south and then came back in through Big Bend Ranch State Park.

At any rate, the Presidio port of entry would be responsible for checking your husband in if he actually went into Mexico. The inland checkpoints should have the same information available; if they don't, tell them to call Presidio if they're that concerned.

Whatever happens, do everything in your power to AVOID the checkpoint south of Alpine. The agents there are completely rogue.

I miss Ojinaga and wish that I could return. On both visits, besides having a very nice time overall, I ate an entire pollo by myself at Pollo Feliz.

Wait, now I'm confused, lol I thought it was as you were leaving Marfa on your way to Presidio. I'll have to double check though. I guess if I call the CBP office they will be able to tell me?

MMmmm...Pollo Feliz is so good. There is another place called Silverado's on the mail road entering Ojinaga that is really good. NOt sure how long it has been there because I just started going to Ojinaga regularly last year.

  3. He should be fine. If he encounters a checkpoint he should state that he is NOT a US citizen and should present his EAD as evidence of his legal presence in the US.

Ok, Good. Thank you. WE were just paranoid that the checkpoint in Marfa would assume he crossed into Mexico since Presidio sits on the border. And I did not want to drive through the mountains by myself :)

  4. My husband recieved his EAD in January, we are still waiting on decision for residency card. Does anyone know if he can travel as far as Presidio, TX which is right on the Mexican/US border but still in TExas? There is a check point in Marfa which is 40 minutes before Presidio. I have to cross over to the Mexico side but wanted to leave him in Presidio, Texas. Someone said he couldnt go to Presidio even though it is still in TExas because when we are heading back home and we pass through the check point in Marfa Texas they might send my husband back to Mexico because they'll think he crossed over to Mexico.

    Thank you

  5. EAD in the mail!!!!

  7. Ernesto,

Don't worry about last names they know about all this. My step-dad has it that way as well. His moms last name is used as his middle name. We filled it out using his first name and then used both last names under last names. We didn't seem to have a problem. The consulate knows as well as USICS that Latin names have father + mother last names. I wouldn't worry about it people seem to do the last name thing different ways. They understand.

I have decided the week of the 9th is no good for us. I hope we can go the week of the 16th. If we do this then I will fly to El Paso and meet him there. I just hope we hear something soon.

    Andrea

Yes, we went first thing in the morning to the information window and they asked for a copy of the letter etc. The guy at the window was really nice and gave us a copy of theappt lettert. I think they open at 7:30.

We rec'd the appt letter in US. I don't know if he rec'd it in Mexico b/c right now he is in Monterrey/

Thank you for this helpful information. We will definitely be doing it this way. When does your SO come to the US?

    Andrea

Not sure we have the waiver appt on Nov 30th. I am wokring on my HSL right now :)

  8. I know what you mean, we fel the same exact way. My SO said for us to risk it and go to Juarez once we heard they had finished processing our paper work. We went to the information window in the morning and got the appt letter. This was the week of September the 23rd. I just rec'd the letter from immigration and the Senator like 2 weeks ago.

So, you guys just walked to the information window and they printed it out right? I figured this is what we are going to have to do. You received it in Mexico or the US? Did your SO ever receive it?

    Andrea

  9. I will most likely go the week of the 9th. You mean give you the green light....when they say they have finished processing and they have sent out the letter right?

Yes, when they finish processing it and they say they have sent the letter I am going to go to Juarez. I will not be waiting to receive it by mail. Thanks for the words of support.

    Isi,

Thank you for the encouraging words. It's just getting harder each day.

  10. Okay guys.....9 days and counting....the anxiety is killing me. Trying to remain relaxed. I keep thinking "what if I forget something"? I've gone over all the paperwork several times and I'm am absolutely positive a thousand more times before leaving next Sunday. Urggg!! I know I have everything...and everything in order....I just feel like I am missing something.

Luis was in the army in Mexico and now I am worried that will somehow impact something. Any advice here? Has anyone had a SO in the military in Mexico? Don't really see how it would hurt. Just asking.

    Sandi

I felt the same exact way. I had a checklist of all the paperwork we needed and I still kept thinking I forgot something. When I got to Mexico my SO asked if I had brought a certain outfit and I that is when I realized that that was what I had forgotten, lol

    Everything will be fine :)

  11. Congrats Chinman and Ale on getting your visa in hand.

Roberto got his tickets to the US last night and he will arrive here on Nov 2nd with POE in Houston.

Yipppeee! The long wait is almost over. We are probably going to get married in the courthouse here

in town and have a ceremony with the family on Xmas Eve.

    Wow, that is sooo exciting.

  12. Yes!!! She got it!!! She was back to the hotel at 9:50 am, I couldn't believe it, I thought there must be a problem.

Now we just need to wait for DHL, which by the way you need to take cash into the consulate for, as they don't accept all types of debit cards. Luckily I gave her 100 pesos, I think it was like 102 pesos for DHL.

So I suppose we need to take a taxi somewhere to get the visa?

    Wow, congratulations!!!!!!

  13. Isi,

Everyone, (receptionists, cab drivers, random people in the lobby and even the Immigration officer that gave the interview) keeps insisting to Roberto that he needs to go to the bridge once he gets his visa from DHL. I just want to confirm one more time that he doesn't go to the bridge because he is flying back to Merida and his POE will be Atlanta in a few weeks. Is that correct and is there somewhere on the juarez website or other USCIS website where I can find it to put Roberto at ease?

    Genny

Did the visa arrive at DHL?

If so how long did it take

See that is what I was confused about. I kept reading about people needing to do that.

  14. Ok I promise not to keep triple posting, but for those of you that are getting ready to go to Juarez make sure you get a $60 a day rate at the Holiday Inn. If you didn't already get a good rate on the

internet then you need to talk to someone and get that rate. Don't pay too much!

Roberto is still in Juarez until he gets the package at DHL. So you might see him Chinman. He went to the Archeological ruins "Casas Grandes" today for a visit but he will be back tonight.

    Genny

How do you get the $60 rate?

I think we paid 70 or 79 per night

Well I'm at the hotel, but the driver i had arranged called to say he would be an hour late, then called to say someone else was coming, and then that he couldn't come at all. I ended up going outside and using border cab co. They are all regulated by the airport, they can't serve people in Juarez, they can only take them there. so it wasn't toooo bad, but still I was pretty irritated.

The receptionist told me to be in line for the medical before 5

    Good luck!!!!

  15. He got it! More later. Poor thing is so starving. We need to go take him to eat. The person who interviewed him was rude but WHO CARES he got it!! His interviewer took his B1-B2 and said oh you have a visa.... I mean you had one because now you dont and stamped canceled on it and laughed. She also said Oh, your girlfriend is a doctor (Im not Im a PhD) and you? What are you? When he said licenciado she said can you live with that ? That she is a doctor and you are not? He said yes. He said she asked tons of questions. Where I live and work. The full names of my parents. Where we met and how. She didn't ask anything he didn't know. We are so happy. It is a huge relief.

some pics of where we are:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/genny.ballard/Juarez#

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

I cannot belive she asked him that, that was rude.

  16. Isi,

I am not sure how much the shots cost in the US but I am sure Roberto is going to have to get some there. He is missing only about 3. Here in Juarez the shots he would have needed cost between 30 and 50 dollars each. They didn't even give him the option of shots because he was in a K1 line. They put K1 no vaccines on his letter from the very beginning in the morning. So when we get to KY he will get the shots there as soon as possible.

    Margaret,

I am so happy we are at this hotel. It is so convenient and has free internet. We have gone back and forth between here and the clinic, the consulate and the mall for the past few days. I was so happy we stayed in a hotel this close when we forgot the copies of the DS 156.

Roberto has been in there for two and a half hours, which was just enough time to fill out most of the AOS forms :)

    Genny

I know, right. It was very convenient.

I'm glad things are going well for you guys. I'll say a little prayer :)

  17. Happy Birthday Isi! So glad it was a good one.

Roberto is in the consulate. They didn't let me in. We went right at 8:00. Last night when we were going through all of the papers we took out the second copy of the DS 156. The first thing they asked us for even before he went into the building were the two copies of the DS 156. So we came back to the hotel and got the other copies. When we got back to the consulate there was a new person at the gate and they didn't let me go in. I'm going to wait here at the hotel and thing very happy thoughts. Perhaps I'll even start the AOS paperwork. Isi did you start AOS yet? Did you get the shots here or there?

    Genny

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Keep yourself occupied b/c I know I was so nervous just waiting. I kept walking up and down the street in front of the consulate :)

How do you like the hotel?

  18. We are here. Victor the taxi driver that Sandi suggested picked me up at the airport (it went smoothly and he only charges $45). We are at the Holiday Inn. Roberto wanted to go to the clinic today but he got here at noon. You can only go to the clinic between 6-11. We just ate next door at Barrigas, that food isn't bad but it is a little expensive.

There are two clinics. One next to Wendy's and another one. One is called Examenes Medicos Consulares and the other is called CME. Does anyone recommend one over the other?

We are going to go to the clinic tomorrow at 6:00. We have heard lots of people here in the lobby that have been waiting for days for DHL to deliver the visa. I sure hope we don't have to wait too long.

Please let me know if you have an opinion about which clinic to go to.

    Genny

I hope everything goes well tomorrow :)

  19. After receiving the visa and going to the bridge, do they have to cross over? Or do they just get the stamp and can go back to their house for their things and cross say in Laredo?

My understanding is that you don't need to stamp anything right after you get your K-1 visa, once you get it you have 6 months to cross at any POE you want and only then your visa and the DO NOT OPEN yellow envelope (that came with your visa) will be stamped.

    :star:

That is my understanding too. We hope that Roberto gets the visa by the end of this week but he will not come to the US for several more weeks. So he is not going to the bridge.

    Genny

It is my understanding as well. You should only get your visa stamped if you are READY to use your visa. If you do not plan on use your visa right away then the bridge information does not pertain to you. Once we receive ours (hopefully soon) we will go back to his hometown for a week and then enter through Laredo. Hope this helps

    Andrea

    Hello Everyone:

We are supposed to call for our new appt in January, does anyone know how long of a backup there is for the Fiance Visa when you are returning after a 3 year ban? If not, is there any way to find out this information?

    Thanks,

    J&E

Janet, I am sorry I really don't have an answer for you. Most k-1's are taking about 4-5 weeks to get processed at Juarez. I remember reading your story. I am so sorry and I wish you the best of luck.

    Andrea

    thanks
