  1. Keep in mind that for renewals you have to personally appear at the embassy or consulate with jurisdiction over your state. So why not wait until you get there and ask the embassy or consulate if they have a photo service you can pay for.

I will. It's just that I already spent over $50 in passport photos. I'd hate for it go to waste.

Bluemist. I tried at all the places you mentioned except UPS.

I guess all I can do is try to use them. We will be going on May 26. I decided to stay in DC from Monday - Friday, and make a vacation out of it. If they don't like our photos on Tuesday, I'll make new ones and bring them Wednesday.

Yup..Im sure there are some photo studio in DC.

LOL, well we just finished the renewal, and they didn't like our photos. We had to go to a CVS that was a few blocks away to take more.

So anyone needing filipino passport photos should wait and have them done near the embassy. Especially if you're like me and can't find anyone that does them with the "blue background" and the proper photo sizes. If you happen to be going to DC like I did, you can get the right photos taken at a CVS thats a couple of blocks away, on the corner of 17th street and P street. Thats where they sent us to do them. You should do them there and save yourself from having to stand in line twice.

  3. Quick question on passport photo size.

Does it really have to be exactly 1.77x1.37?

Everywhere around me only has the size 2x2. Please someone answer soon. Today is the best time for me to get this done, and I leave for the embassy in a week.

    Thanks

The size for the Philippine passport pic is 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm.

I was only able to get passport photos that are 2x2 inches. My question is will this be a problem? No place where I live will make a photo 1.77x1.37 inches (4.5x3.5 cm).

Also, no one had a blue backdrop. I ended up having to buy some blue fabric and talking a place that does passport photos into letting me put it up. Some refused.

I read somewhere on here that it would be ok, but I guess I wanted a second opinion.

  4. i would still call & ask the consulate that services your state & ask them. these consulates all seem to have different requirements.

LOL, I swear the consulate at DC just flat out does NOT answer the phone.

I was thinking of paying in cash. This is what is written in the renewal instructions...

Passport processing fees are non-refundable and payable only in

cash when personally applying; or money order issued in the

    U.S., certified, treasurer’s, manager’s or cashier’s check issued

by a bank in the U.S. or by local bank that has a corresponding

bank in the U.S., payable to the Embassy of the Philippines when

applying by mail or courier. Personal check and personal money

    order are not accepted.

    Maybe that's just DC.

  5. I found these on the Embassy website...

Report of Marriage (the instructions are on page 2):

    http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/downloads/ROMDC.pdf

Passport Application (see instructions on pages 3 - 4)

    http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/downl...DC21Oct2008.pdf

The amendment is cheaper, $20 vs. $50 for the passport (that's why the suggest it), but I think it's worth paying the $30 extra to get the new passport.

    Thank You!!

I feel like an idiot LOL  . I didn't realize the instructions and requirements were part of the application documents which you download. I already had some of them downloaded the whole time too.

One link I would like to add is ... http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/downl...InfosheetDC.pdf . I'll need to fill this out too since I was born in the states.

One question. Can we do both in one trip? If so, I'm assuming you do the "Report of Marriage" first, and then passport renewal. Right?

  6. File the report of marriage and then apply for a passport renewal under your married name. Don't get the amendment. My wife got her passport amended at the embassy in DC and has had nothing but trouble with it. Even Philippine Immigration gives her dirty looks when we go back to Manila for visits. She was almost denied boarding on a flight from Denver to Vancouver because the airline personnel said her boarding pass had to match the name on the ID page of the passport regardless of what the handwritten amendment said )we had to get a supervisor involved for her to fly. The Italian embassy insisted on issuing her a visa in her maiden name because they would not accept the amendment either.

So, save yourself the trouble and get a new passport once you've reported the marriage. Don't bother with the amendment.

Can you really skip the "Amendment" part? Seems like the embassy sites would mention that, or are they just trying to suck as much money outta you as they can?

My wife needs to renew her passport, and change her name on it. What all do you have to do to "Report Marriage"? I know you fill out a form, but do you need to bring anything for just that process? Are we supposed to wait for some confirmation from the "Report Marriage" before we proceed with the "renewal", or can we do it all in one trip.

If you don't mind, could you explain to me step by step what I should do and what to expect? Like someone said earlier, the requirements seem to vary from one embassy to another. Like you, I also have to go to the Washington DC embassy, and I can't find ANY requirements on their site. I must admit I'm already not very fond of this embassy. I've been trying for days to get through, but NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE in the documents section, nor do they have voice mail. It just rings, or a voice message comes on saying that the party at that extension has not subscribed to voice mail, and then it hangs up. Terrible service. Finally, I just kept hitting different button till I got a live person in agriculture to answer my passport questions, LOL. Now I have even more questions.

Two more quick questions. My wifes green card has expired, but when we went to apply for the 10 year card, they gave her a 1 year extension. Will that affect anything with this passport process, or do they just want your green card as a form of identification? As for my second question, is changing the name on a passport really necessary? I mean if the only reason for doing it is so her name will match the name on the plane ticket, couldn't I just buy the ticket under her maiden name?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just stressing over this because we leave for Washington on the 25th of this month and I feel unprepared. I just don't want to make the trip only to be turn down because of some minute detail.

Thanks in advance for any help.
