  1. Hi everyone!

So my son is finally here! He arrived in the country on the 28th of November (just in time for the Thanksgiving dinner :) what a blessing!!!!) Now we are waiting for his social security card to arrive in the mail. Does anyone know how long does that take? He wants to get his drivers license and a job, so he can resume his life, and we've been waiting for almost three weeks.

To the rest of you still waiting, hang in there!!!

  2. So my son finally had his interview on the 19th of November. After gathering all the paperwork in the world, the consular officer didn't ask for one single document!!! haha!. Now he's waiting for his passport to come back with the visa affixed on it. I wonder if any of you know how to track it down, or how long will it take? The Consulate requires him to open an account at a site for DHL, but there has been no update on the tracking for the passport.

Take care everybody and good luck to all of you still waiting or starting this journey.

  3. Just checking in, Finally my son is here, we arrive last Monday, after 1 year of this immigration journey.

Thank you everyone for your help.

    God bless us all.

    And good luck.

    Congrats! Really happy for you!

    FINNALLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Yay! So happy for you! God Bless.

  4. Guys I have a question: we want to bring my son for a visit, until NVC sets up a date for his interview (they're currently revising our response for the RFE they sent for the AOS form that was updated)

Can he travel with his tourist visa, which is still valid, and return to Ecuador for his interview, as soon as we have a date?

We would like to bring him next week if possible.

Please respond to us as soon as you can. Thank you!

  5. Thank God! My journey is over. I had my citizenship ceremony last Friday. It was very emotional, and I will remember it for ever. I live in Orange County, CA, so I decided to start my drive to Downtown L.A., where the L.A. Convention Center becomes a court of Law for the citizenship ceremony, at 8:30 in the morning. Arrived at 9:15. They offer parking at $15 dollars/day at the same building the ceremony is held. I thought this was the best option, since I really didn't know how long the event was going to take. I walked like a block and a half. There were signs pointing the way very clearly. They made us stay in line for about 1:30 hours. It didn't matter the hour of your appointment. You still wait in line. Finally they made us walk towards the big room where the ceremony was held (a room half a football field, if not more) we passed a security scan and then we were pointed to one of the tables, where we submitted our paperwork and they gave it back with a number written on it. Finally we were sitted and we waited for about an hour more. A judge came in, made us repeat the Oath of Alliagence after him, then the song "Proud to be an American" was played on the big screen. We recited the Pledge to the Flag and sang the National Anthem. Everybody was very emotional. Finally, we were told to leave the room, towards the table with the number we got before we were sitted, and got our citizenship certificate.

Please update my status. To all of you sitll waiting, hang in there. It is totally worth it.

    God Bless everyone of you.

    Kata.

  6. Hi guys!

Sorry for not updating before. I have been working crazy hours! Well, anyways. I received a letter last week with the appointment for my oath ceremony:

I'm scheduled for tomorrow, september the 27/2013 at 12:10 PM.

That means I have to leave my house at 9:00 AM, to deal with the crazy traffic in L.A.!!! haha!. Husband cannot come with me, so I hope someone in there can take a picture of this once in a lifetime experience!!!

Ok. I will let you know how did it go. If you have any advise, I am more than happy to take it!

To all of you still waiting, the best of lucks. Our journey is almost over!.

  7. Hi kata,.. Really, the 20 business day thing going on in NVC,.. Is really getting into my nerves.,

Well, we got an AOS checklist too,( after 20 business days) so i just send that last friday, and now waiting for them to review, and of course another 20 bus days.!!!!!!grrrr!!...

    Hang in there.

Sorry to hear that! :( hang in there too! You're not alone! And in the end, when we get to hug our kids, we'll forget about this non-sense! :)

    OMG!!!!!

just called NVC and was told interview OCTOBER 9th!!!

    WHOOHOOOO finally!!!

    Congrats!!! :)

I hear everyone's frustrations...i had 2 damn checklists myself, and was really hoping for an interview before school starter...but whatevs....

Just read on another post that NVC is now taking 30 days!!!

Nooooooo!!!!! :'( I really hope that's not true!!!!

  8. Yay! So I had my interview on Sept. 03. The experience was over-all a pleasent one. I arrived one hour earlier, to be able to find parking and to be prepared. I was told to sit down on a large waiting room. I waited for about 1:50. The officer who interviewed me, made me questions about my husband and I, then gave me a piece of paper I had to read from, and then told me to write down a sentence in a different piece of paper. After that, she asked me 6 questions from the booklet/cd and said: "Congratulations! you have succesfully passed your cicizenship exam, and I am recomending you as elegible for citizenship status, the Oath Ceremony is the final stage on this process, so you will receive a letter with the date, time and place where you will have your oath ceremony, within the next three months" so now its all about waiting for that paper smile.png

I had changed my address online the day before, so I gave her a print-out of the confirmation of our change of address, and a copy of our new lease. I had a whole bag with documents I could use: N-400 application copy, originals of the documents I submited, up-dated information of the proof of relationship, Green Card, Driver's licence, my husbands passport, my passport etc. I was only asked for my Green Card, Driver's License and Passport.

Since I requested a change of name, she asked me why, then made me sign a statement swearing I am not changing my name to commit any crimes, and filled out a form for court, so I can proceed to change my name everywhere afterwords.

This is my experience. I hope its useful. Please update my info. Thank you guys and the best for all of you!

  9. OMG! I can't believe this. After the 20 business NVC now takes, I received an emai saying that I had missed a line on the I-864 AOS form, and that I had to include our Federal Income Tax Returns for 2012. Last month I received a previous RFE, saying that I had to submit the AOS package, even though everytime I called the Customer Service Center, I was told they had both packages and that they were under review!!! Then, a customer service representative tells me that they do not need the whole package, but that the I-864 form was out-dated, and that I needed to send the up-dated one.

So now, I know they will make us wait another 20 business days, and I pray to God that nothing else arises!!!! because then we will have to wait yet another 20 business days...and so on...and on...and on!!!

I immediatly got on it, and sent them the corrections on a new I-864 AOS form, and included -yet again- our Federal Income Tax Returns for 2010, 2011 and 2012, just to be on the safe side. I hope this does not become a problem. I also over-nighted the package (I know they will only acknoledge its existence after 5 days) and the 20 business day count-down starts -yet again!!!!

Arrrrggggghhhhh!!!! sorry to vent guys! Just make sure to check 20 times and, when calling the Customer Service Center, make sure to ask ALL the questions you can imagine of -even those you think they are just obvious or even dumb- then re-check your paperwork ten thousand times.

    Thanks for all your support.

  10. Thanks Kata.. cant do anything but look on the bright side in this process LOL

on the BRIGHTER side i called today and they said that my oldest step son has FINALLY cleared nvc (after 4 mnths of AOS checklists) and is on his way to Kingston for interview scheduling..(only after 30 days of waiting smh LOL)

i will make sure to send all this proof that hubby and I live together so they will have nothing to say for his interview.. i hope.. LMBO!!!

Yay! Amazing news! Congrats! :) happy for you!

STILLL waiting for my oldest stepson to be approved because of new forms, new rules on that form, 2011 income not being good anymore cuz it too them so long to approve the dang form in the first place..the checklist never tells you exactly whats wrong and the ppl on the phone BARELY can.. AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.. and everytime i had to wait 20 days smh. RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel you! But they're really good @ adding new fees though! They're really quick @ that! /:0/

  12. I sent the AOS in a timely manner and received this RFE, stating that they did not receive it, so I wasn't worried, since the guideline for the NVC -shortcuts- say its perfectly normal.

After a couple of days I call the NVC to hear about the progress on our case, and the customer service representative tells me that the form I sent was out-dated, and that I should have received the RFE asking for the updated form. I explained to her that the RFE NEVER mentioned that the form was out-dated, she just said "we're sorry; it is apparently our mistake" and so I asked, since it's their mistake, if my case is going to be expedited. She said "no" and that they'll take 20 business days to give us an answer.

I can't believe how frustrating this process is!!!! :'(

  13. Hey! We are at the Santa Ana office too! Hello neighbor ! My husbands interview is next Monday in Santa Ana :)

Yay!!! Good luck to you and the hubby neighbor!!! I have a friend that also has her interview at the Santa Ana Office. She says it's pretty easy: the interviewer gets your paperwork and gives you a paper with the civics questions. Your husband will have to read them out loud, and answer. I'm not sure if they make you write them too.

Please post your experience, so I can have a good idea on what's going to happen. ;)
