  1. Oh, that's very interesting news. Our case was transferred to CSC on January 19, then nothing until today where there's a notification that it's been transferred to the local USCIS office. Hopefully it's a standard thing where if the file's been sitting at CSC for 6 months, they ship it back for processing? So much for a transfer to CSC meaning quick processing.

How do you request a 'service request'? What does that mean? I wonder if we should ask for one?

Let us know what happens to you guys, please!

    Good luck!

Just checked my status...we've been transferred to our local office today...better get preparing for that interview after all!

  2. Congratulations to all the recent approvals!

Just a quick vent if that's ok

May 29th will be 4 months since our last touch on the I485 and it will be 5 months since our NOA1. We've not been too worried so far as I've been working and not sat waiting for it to arrive but now that we're reaching the 5 month mark I can't help and wonder...where is my GC? We thought we were one of the lucky ones when we got transferred to California...not so lucky now!

Hopefully soon but I guess I ought to start calling DOS again!

Is there anyone else out there still waiting????

  3. amazing news that my green card arrived this morning!!!

Was ready to cry just at the realisation that i have no more visa stress for nearly 2 years. we filed for our k1 almost exactly a year ago and cant believe all thats happened in the past year!

happy day :) god has been good!

Congratulations Jo...I'm so happy for you...it must be a great relief not to have to worry for a couple of years!

We are still waiting...hopefully soon...we'll start calling when we reach the 5 month mark at the end of this month!

  4. Okay I haven't got my visa and my interview date was the 23rd of Feb. I called the courier and they hadn't received it from the embassy. So I called DOS because it's cheaper than the extortion line, right? They answered the phone kept me on hold for an unexplained reason and came back to me... gave them my case number and she was like "you're on additional processing... wait about another week". What??? So then I thought "did she mean administrative processing?" which would be bad, right? So I gave in and called the extortion line. The guy asked me why I was calling and I said it had been more then 5 days since my interview and it doesn't look like my visa was issued yet. He really didn't want to take my case number and asked me why I was so concerned so I explained and he was like "why did you call DOS?" so I said it was cheaper than calling the embassy and they've been able to give me updates before. So, finally he took my case number (way to go on keeping me on the phone for as long as possible) and said "I see absolutely no problems. Just give it a few more days, the 5 days is a guide and not really a rule" and then he explained what AP means and that he doesn't see anything that suggests it pertains to my case.

    So... now I'm confused.

It will be on it's way soon...I know that out of all the different stages of waiting during the process, this is the most fustrating but you're nearly there! The 5 days is a guidline and sometimes it takes a little longer. If you were in AP they would have told you already. Just be patient for a little longer..it is coming :)

  5. Does anyone out there know if we can go to the Civil Surgeon before the wedidng to get the 1693 completed?

Or does it HAVE to be after the wedding?

I have tried to find the answer to this all over the site, so thought I would give it a go with my fellow brits!

I did mine before we were married. We had everything ready. All we were waiting on was the wedding certificate and then we filed AOS the following day.

  6. Sounds like Maggiano's is the place to go. I was considering there too. They have private function rooms which is great. And Indianapolis just seems to be the back of beyond for good restaurants. Unless anyone knows anywhere?

    Hi Y&E

Maggiani's was lovely and the staff were great. We didnt't hire a room as it was 3:30 pm and not that busy and we almost had the restaurant to ourselves. Management gave us free champagne which was lovely. We opted for the family style meal with the light meal option. We chose 2 starters, 2 salads and 2 pastas and it came with lemon cookies for dessert. At first we didn't think there would be enough but the great thing is that they just keep bringing out food until you say you're full so we were glad we didn't go for the full dinner option...definitely worth every penny spent!

I actually went down to the restaurant before hand and chose where I wanted to sit. The staff were great and really helped to make our day more special.

  7. Hi,

Me and my husband have been "debating" this question for awhile now. I'm currently waiting for AOS approval and haven't yet recieved my EAD. According to my timeline EAD will be approved around 22nd feb-march 1st.

The problem is that teaching jobs for the next school year are now coming out. I (fingers crossed) will have my GC by the time school starts but can I apply for those jobs now? I won't be working until August.

It's a dilemma, I think I can't apply but it's hard to know that I could be missing out on jobs. Hubby thinks that they won't be asking for documentation until interview which hopefully by that time I'll at least have EAD, therefore I should apply.

    I appreciate any thoughts.

    Amanda

  8. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced (or your SO) a similar situation to what I'm experiencing right now and can offer some words of wisdom / advice.

The background is: I'm a dual NZ / British Citizen. I grew up in NZ and I currently live in the UK. I'm also an only child. My parents currently live in HK and my fiance is the USC.

I just spent 2 weeks visiting with my parents in HK and I've come back and I'm increadibly homesick for them and NZ or even HK. Now I'm questioning whether I even want to move to the US. Y is trying to be supportive and he only wants me to be happy but right now I don't know what I want and I feel really stupid and sad. I do love Y and I do want to be with him but I feel thyat I need to be close to my parents in the long-run because they will eventually need me.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Thanks for any replies :-)

    E

    Hi E,

It is hard living away from family. I always feel incredibly homesick after a visit home and it takes me a couple of weeks to adjust. It is a big step to immigrate and you do sacrifice a lot to do so.

I've lived in the US on and off since 2002 but now that i've immigrated it is different. I always new that i had a return flight at the end of each year worked and now I don't have that and the feeling that I don't know when I'll see my family again does worry me. But on a positive note, I'm with my husband and I know it's where I'm meant to be. I skype, call and text with my family and friends and I'm fortunate to keep "flight" money in my savings account just incase.

At the end of the day only you can decide if it's what you really want but my thoughts to you is don't make a decision right now while you're still so homesick...give it a couple of weeks and see if you feel differently.

    I wish you well

    Amanda :)

  9. Have I got the wrong birth certificate?

    It has on it:

    #Name and Surname

    #Sex

    #D.O.B

    #Place of birth

    # I <name> registar of birth an deaths for the sub-district of <place> etc etc...

    #Date #Signature of registrar

Have i got the short form? It is the original from when i was born though.

    Thanks

    Jmr

yes you have the short form, the long form has both your parents' names and occupations on it. You need to obtain a copy of the long form from your local registrar.

  10. My I-485 was touched (got a text and email about it) saying that it was transferred & is now being processed at a USCIS office. I wondered how this was different from the email I got 5 days ago & did a comparison. In all my AOS forum reading, I didn't see anyone talking about the difference in these two notices:

    Jan 29:

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Case Transfered to Another Office for Processing

On January 28, 2010, we transferred this case I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS to our CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER location for processing and sent you a notice explaining this action...

    Feb 4:

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred.

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office...

I had the same and was very confused thinking it had been sent somewhere else. I called USCIS and they said it means that California now received it and it's now being processed.

  11. Hi Erynn

    I used

•Dr. Diana M. Whiteman, To Your Health Medical & Fitness, PC

235 East Ponce de Leon Avenue, Suite 306, Decatur, GA 30030

    (678) 218-0320

She was lovely and never tried to push a full medical on me. Both she and the nurse understood what I was talking about. She charged $45 for transcribing my vacs and $65 for a second MMR booster. The office is a little small and very old but I was happy with the price and service.

    Good luck

    Amanda :)

  12. Hi Jo, welcome to the next step.

You'll need to get a CS to transcribe your vacs onto the I693. So many people from the nov/dec filers are getting RFE's for medicals. I had the CS fill in the appropriate parts and you don't need another medical. It seems it can be difficult to find a CS who will just transcribe without trying to get you to do a whole new medical. I found mine on the USCIS website.

    https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=of...office_type=CIV

I also had to have a second MMR shot as she claimed it's a 2 shot booster. It cost me $45 for transcribing and another $65 for the shot.

    Good luck

    Amanda :)

  13. We did the civil ceremony and I was amazed at the variety of people's clothing. I wore a simple straight ivory dress and I was the only one! There was another bride in a black and white floor length 2 piece, then there were people in smart clothes and even people in jeans and sweats.

I was the odd one out but i really didn't care..it was my day but it was funny going through the metal detector in my dress and then being asked to lift it up to prove i had no weapons underneath!!!

Wear what you want and enjoy it!
