Does any one know how Islamabad embassy is 'behaving' these days? I've logged into VJ after a long long time. My mother-in-law is dcheduled for her IR-5 interview pretty soon. Also, does anyone know what kind of questions they might ask for this category?
My parents in law had their interview yesterday. They waited about three hours, didn't get asked any real questions and were told they were approved. But they did not get their visa since the computer system was down. They were told we will call you within three months to send in your passport to get the visa. So don't know if that is good news or bad

As long as your boyfriend meets the residency requirements then your child can have US citizenship - but it must be filed when the child is born. If you intend to move to the US with your boyfriend, then it makes more sense for the child to have US citizenship however you might want to look into dual citizenship as well, although the US does not recognize dual citizens, it might be beneficial for the child to also have british citizenship if travel to the UK will be in the child's future.
I just want to add, that if you are not married at the time of the baby's birth, you will have to prove that your boyfirend is the father for the baby to get citizenship.. a DNA test will probably be required and I don't know how long it might take till the baby gets the US passport. It might be simpler for the baby to come on K-2 as your child

The NVC will keep a case for only 12 months. It is very unlikely that you will be able to extend the timeframe by 2 - 3 years.
Say it takes about a year for her to get the interview. Then she can travel to the US for a couple of months and apply for a reentry permit to come back after two years. Then she can move. This way you will also be preserving her rights in case immigration laws change

I filed I-130 for my mom and dad, and I just now recieved the letter from NVC for AOS fee ($70)..
What's gonna happen after I pay these? when do I need to file I-864?
and I've been reading about this IV fees,. when do I pay this? and how much?
And the Adjustment of Status, when do I need to file for it?
What other fees are there to pay?
I will appreciate your help, give me guidelines and what to do and fees to pay, I read so many experiences and some were contradicting, its confusing..
Thanks!
After you pay the fee, you will get a letter telling you to file the i-864. After that is approved, you will get a bill for the IV fees, it was $400/ person when we did it. Then you file DS230 and supporting documents. When they are approved, the interview will be scheduled.
Since your parents are abroad, you will not need to file adjustment of status.
Other fees... medical exams, fees for getting police certificates, photos etc, there will be a lot of little things.

We are finding out while adjusting we are not allowed to travel abroad!!! It is insane to both of us to be subjected to this kind of treatment. No one in our life stopped us from traveling freely and here we go, the US, the alleged most free country in the world can tell us when we can travel and when we can't. We are not anymore in the 80's East block anymore. What is the purpose of this?? We are not criminals. What do they think they are???
Further the all process of obtaining a visa for a spouse is ridiculous, heavy, un-respectful, expensive and borderline comical and stupid. I have better words for it but I should be nice! I tell you it does not show well to the rest of world, the way foreigners seeking visas are treated with this process. I am certain we will get many objections from the US if a US citizen has to be going through this type of process from another country.
Actually, government enteties have been telling you where you can and cannot travel all your life, that is what a visa process is. Every time you go to a foriegn country, you require permission from their government to let you in. Maybe you have not felt any practical effects of the rule before now, because you have been able to obtain a visa at the airport in your travels, but that is not an advantage shared by everyone. My aunt, for example (Pakistani citizen), was denied an entry visa to the EU last year, how's that for not being able to travel freely?
-
What exactly is this visa processing fee? Is this another fee I have to pay after the initial filing fee that was payed?
Yes, you will pay three hundered something to USCIS initially, then 75 to NVC for affadavit of support, then 400 to NVC for visa filing

My daughter and I got our approval letter for the I-751 on May 13, 2009. I filed the I-751 with her as my dependent. I got my 10-year-GC last June 29 but my daughter never got hers. I have called the USCIS customer service twice, the last one on July 15. I was given a service request number, and was told to wait for 45 days which is the end of August. I was told to expect an update from the mail or online (CRIS). There was no mail and no online update.
What should I do? Should I go to the local office? My daughter needs her GC because she is applying for college in schools here in Atlanta.... and she needs to get a driver's license too. She is also looking for work. I know that she can use her Approval Letter but still, I think she has to have her greencard by now.
Please, any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
Sounds like your GC got lost in the mail (this happened to my SIL) Make and Infopass appointment and ask them to print out a new one.

I got MMR vaccine in one shot and was told to wait three months before getting pregnant. The vaccine does not prevent pregnancy but can cause deformities in the baby, that's why you are supposed to wait. Is this really a big problem for you, why not wait a little before trying to concive?

They now do biometrics for reentry permit, so he will have to stay until US until he gets his fingerprints done, may take some time.
Have it mailed to a US address and send it on via courier, that should be fine

Thanks - re: the 35 years income, do they take the other 25 years as zero or would they count his overseas income? My mother also gets free Medicare A and can buy Medicare B, is that right? Or doe she pay for both?
They would count the other 25 years as zero since no social security tax was paid on that income.
Your mother also gets free Part A and pays for Part B
-
No. After living here for five years, her parents will be eligible to buy into Medicare for the full premium. After they become citizens, they may qualify for Medicaid as well. For the the first five years, your friend will have to pay all the medical costs or get some kind of private insurance.
And to get social security, ten years of working in the US are required
-
Yes
After 10 years, your dad will be eligible for Social Security (the amount will not be much though since it is based on the average of 35 years of income). He will get Medicare Part A for free and be able to buy into Medicare Part B. As his spouse for more than 10 years, your mom will also get social security (half of his amount) and be eligible for Medicare.
Even if he does not work for ten years, after living in the US for five years, they will be eligible to buy into Medicare. In this case, they will have to pay for Medicare Part A as well (about $500/month/person)

Social Security - about two weeks
Birth Cert - varies by state, two to six weeks. If you want you can pay more for faster processing.
The hospital will give you a certification of birth, you can use that for N-400 filing and take the actual birth cert to the interview

Employers are now required to verify all new employees electronically through social security database. I don't know exactly how the process works, but I would imagine that they compare the social security number and first four letters of the last name like the IRS does. In this case, her name would not match, and she would have problems with starting employment. For me, changing the social security card would be more important than changing the green card.
-
Can't you get added onto your spouse's insurance? That would be the best option

I turned in the original affadavit of support in Sep 2008. Interview is on Aug 25 in Islamabad. Do I need to have them take an updated affadavit of support or copy of 2008 taxes to the interview, or are we okay. The problem is getting the papers to them in Islamabad in time, FEDEX is expensive!

I didn't change my name at marriage, so our tax returns (and all other documents) showed seperate last name. Immigration did not raise any question about that, I think they just want to see that you filed jointly and have joint accounts etc

Hello
My parents in law just got their interviewed scheduled at the embassy in Islamabad ..(Yeah for that part) But for some reason the embassy sent the interview notice to us in the US, now we have to send it back to parents in Pakistan. I'm wondering, if we scan it in and they print it out and take it, will that be acceptable or do they need the original?
-
I just want to add that for the other son, if he was married to the childs mother at the time of the birth, then DNA does not matter, he is legally the father. Is that the case?

I read a lot here about people being stuck in AP, what exactly is it? Does the new law requiring FBI to complete all name checks in six months affect this?

My parents will soon be moving to US (keeping my fingers crossed) I was looking into options for health insurance for them. They will not be working and most insurance companies do not offer individual plans for people over 65. I saw one, Inbound Immigrant, that they would qualify for... any one have any experience with that? Or any other suggestions?

Has anyone transferred a case from one embassy to another? How long did it take?
I am in the process of transferring my parents file. It has been three days so far, I don't know how long it will take. But I have been told they cannot be interviewed at the old embassy, must be interviewed at the place of residence. So I don't think you have a choice in the matter (plus, what if they ask for more documents or something rather than approving it right away?)

My PIL immigration application is being transferred from Abu Dhabi to Islamabad. Anyone have an idea of how long this takes? They got an email three days ago that the transfer has been requested and will be processed soon

We filed I-130 for parents last year, got approval and sent in required information. At that time, my parents were living in UAE. On April 15, my father lost his job, got his visa cancelled on moved back to Pakistan. Last week, we got notice on interview scheduled in July for UAE. Emailed NVC about change of address, I got a reply "contact your local embassy about your inquiry" I don't know what to do?

You can start applying for jobs without a SSN, you only need that for when you start work.
You seem to indicate that you want to present your papers at the border but not actually enter USA till the next month. I would be wary of doing that.. when you want to reenter (actually enter) USA you will need to show your green card. The green card will be mailed to your wife, should be in two weeks, then she will have to mail it to you, should something go wrong you would be stuck in Canada waiting for it to be resolved. I would suggest that you only go to the border when you are ready to actually move.
