  1. Yeah, the best answer you'll probably get on this is the one you research yourself. You should be able to email the airlines if you don't need a "quick" response, and most airlines will have someone who speaks english if you want to call them.

Make sure you have a list of questions prepared.

I wouldn't worry about her English skills with the places she's stopping in.

  2. Visitor visa for them to be present at your wedding is definitely doable. Be it luck or preparation, Anna and I have always been able to get tourist visas for whomever needed to come here. I've read far and wide about people not being able to get them, so we consider ourselves lucky no matter what.

We provided strong ties back to Russia. Anything and everything pertaining the person to their property or lives back home. The reason they are going with some heart string tugging overtone (can't beat a wedding!).

Be prepared and cross your fingers, in the immortal words of Rob Schneider, YOU CAN DO IT! :P

  3. Slim gets it. ;)

I never promised Anna a work free life. We both went into this relationship knowing she will be getting a job as soon as she could. And fortunately it was the type of job I'd always knew she could get as her education is in banking law and economics. She taught it as well. Kind of a no brainer really.

And yes Slim, she'd worked here in Alaska a on couple of different occasions. She knows about taxes, doesn't like them, but knows about them. She's also very open on "sharing" bills. She's the one who bought her car and came over with a decent little chunk of money from selling a flat back home. She's been dipping into that since she got here. Very self sufficient if need be, I consider myself lucky. :)

  4. Found a job that is! :) Anna recieved a job offer from a local credit union this morning and will start work on Monday.

I don't have too many other people to share the news with and I know some people here could appreciate the work and relief when their significant others finds employment.

We both busted our arses to prepare her for landing this thing. I'm very proud of her!

  5. lol...it could have been worse...I could have said something like the; Monkey Warf, Gussie Lamours, Flying Machine.. or even the Rabbit Hutch. :D

In my defense...the drinking age was 19 back then, and I was grandfathered in when they changed it to 21 even though I was only 20 at the time.

I can still remember cruising the strip and racing on Minnesota when Minnesota stopped at Dimond blvd. It wasn't till later on that they extended it to O'Malley rd.

Service High School FTW ! GO COUGS !!!!

You forgot the Bird House. ;) Flying machine is now called the Taproot, in case you don't get into town much.

  6. Yeah, they don't typically know how to set up a plasma for some reason at the stores. Any how, good deal on your purchase. :)

I'm not so much into surround sound right now as I'm in an apartment since selling my last house. But you can bet that it will be on the top of the list come new home time. ;) That and a bigger screen... Anna wouldn't let me get the 65" and put it in front of the fireplace here... Why do fireplaces always have to be in the perfect TV spot??

  7. we are headed out to Best Buy tonight to take the plunge! Alla was there before her classes today and says she found some good deals on the TV, a Home Theatre system, DVD player and a "piece of furniture" for all of it. We will see.

Then I have to call DirecTV.

Good for you guys! Don't forget the Blu-ray player, and you have to get your favorite movie ever on Blu-Ray. ;)

  8. LOL That's on a whole other scale to what I'm thinking. :D

I remember a few years ago I was looking on craigslist and came across a govt. building giving away an old rack mounted server they had. Guy said first come, first serve. 10 minutes and 3 red light runs later, it was mine. He asked me where I parked, I said a couple of blocks away. "It's 150 lbs, buddy"... So here I am, bear hugging this freaking thing out the building with a sh!t eating grin on my face. I think half the people thought I stole it.

Anyway, long story short, it was LOUD. It turned into a 150# center piece to my old home office. Couldn't just pass up free stuff though.

  9. Could always make one. I would do it again if I didn't feel like having another computer taking up space.

You'd need a computer case and associated innards. Some RAID PCI/E cards and you might have to chop up the internal rack to accommodate all your hard drives. A PSU powerfull enough to run them all. Remote desktop software. Not sure how teckie you are, but it's not all that hard. It'd be even easier to do it if you have an old computer lying around.

... just talking about this makes me want to dig through all my computer ####### and make one, but I'm sure my laziness will prevail.

  10. I was more than happy when my wife started telling me how she wanted me to buy her hard drives! Every now and then on newegg.com or Tiger Direct they have ridiculously good deals. I got a bunch of 2 TB external drives for like $100 each and connect 7 of them at a time to a USB hub. It's not the best set up for everything, but for streaming movies in-house, it's hard to beat the price.

Yeah...what he said! You can download just about every movie ever made off the net and make it available for watching on a TIVO, IPad, IPod, IPhone, PS3, etc. The application I've been using most recently is Vuze...I highly recommend it...it does pretty much everything right out of the box with very little set up. Search for the movie you want, select from the list and it starts transferring. Want to watch it on TIVO or some other device on your network? Drag it over to it, and it transcodes for that device (basically just converting it to a format the device can use). It's a lot like Netflix streaming except there's unlimited selection...only downside is you have to fliter out the ####### sometimes...usually pretty easy to do that though.

I've heard a little bit about Vuze and just checked it out, it looks interesting and I might give it a try. I did a little more reading and found it used to be calle Azureus. I used Azureus years ago before switching to Utorrent, maybe I'll switch back now. :P

I have 3 external drives right now and I'd like to switch all of my storage to a NAS enclosure (network attached storage, Slim) Hide the box somewhere and forget about it.

  11. You will need slippers for sure. A few weeks ago I got caught walking through the house with my regular street shoes on. Now when she comes down stairs in the morning instead of looking me in the eyes with that loving look, first thing she does is look down at what is on my feet.

    Ohhh, busted.....

I took two steps in the front door to grab something out of the closet without taking my shoes off. "####### you doing??" err..
