Well, my re-issued passport was delivered today - the day after the one missing in the mail finally showed up. Of course, I was at work and not home to accept delivery as Fed Ex needs a signature so have to go and pick it up after 6 pm but that's ok:-). I can do that. 9 days from cancelling the other, receiving the non-receipt form that I sent back, re-issuing and delivering my new passport - I'm impressed.

Congrats kathryn, I am glad you received the second one so fast.

Received the passport today.. finally.. tracking number is still messed up.. something is seriously wrong with USPS...

Thanks Kathryn, I will wait 2 more days to see if it gets delivered since I paid for overnight delivery, my only option after that would be to call and cancel. USPS tracking/service really is a joke compared to fedex/ups imho.

Called the passport agency today, they said the passport was mailed today, whereas I received a mail saturday telling me that my passport was sent, they gave me a tracking number, and when I tried to track it, it said the item was delivered on April 4 2008 somewhere in CA ... after a couple of calls between usps and the passport agency i decided i couldn't do anything except to pray it's not lost or going to be delivered somewhere on planet Tattoine..

During my interview the officer did take my new set of photos, he said the old ones could have been rejected because it showed my shoulders and that my face wasn't zoomed-in enough.. funny thing is, when I went to apply for the passport the agent told me the exact opposite, he said the rejected passport photos by uscis looked perfect and that the picture on my N400 was too zoomed-in/washed out (whatever that means)... anyway I am glad I went the extra mile to get new photos.

We have finished processing your passport, and it has been mailed to you.

You paid for overnight delivery. This means you should receive your passport on or about 10/07/2009.

I got a call from the Passport Office today. They confirmed that they have canceled my passport and wanted to ensure that I am sending in the form to get it re-issued. I said yes, I had sent the form yesterday. She asked if by regular mail and yes, it was - I didn't think about using something faster, oh well - so as soon as they get it they will reissue my passport and deliver it by FedEx. I will need to sign for it - which suits me fine.

Good luck Kathryn on getting your passport.. sorry to hear that they somehow managed to lose the first one, at least you didn't have to re-send the naturalization certificate. Hi all, I finally took my oath today. It was very nice and moving. I updated my citizenship record at the social security office, was too tired to go to the dmv and passport office, will do that first thing in the morning tomorrow. Hi guys... I passed my interview today.. I arrived 20mn before the interview time but got called almost an hour later. It was a really busy day at the DO. The interview itself only took about 10 mn... The officer was very nice. We went through the application to verify all information was correct, then look at tax transcripts and other supporting documents... I had brought two additional photos and the officer decided to use those instead of the ones I submitted with the n400. He said the ones i had submitted showed my shoulder and that they could have been rejected .

Then we proceeded with the civic test.

Asked me to read: Who was the first president

Write: George Washington was the first president.

The questions asked were:

We elect a U.S. Representative for how many years?

How many voting member in the house of representative.

In what month do we vote for President?

Who is the Chief Justice of the United States now?

Name one war fought by the United States in the 1900s.

Who was the first President?

Then he stopped after the first 6 questions. Made copies of some of the supporting documents. Put the approved stamp on the application and gave the form that said I had passed the test and my application was recommended for approval. Said I will get the oath letter in the mail.

One more letter to get and I will be all done. , fingers crossed, thanks to all April filers for sharing they experiences and time lines and everyone in this great forum

Interview went fine Puffy. Passed and got lucky because there is an oath ceremony at Bethel tomorrow Aug 19th at 2.. that's when my oath taking is.. Finally this stage is over. Learned a lot from this site.. But there's a lot of amateurish wannabe atty in this site that can think outside the box.. You know who you are.. betcha you're a taddle tale too..

Puffy hope you get your interview done quickly so you can join us in the oath ceremony... but if you dont I hope you get to be a USC soon.. Here's the schedule for oath takings in the Metro Area.

I have a question about the interview...does the officer ask about every single line of the application? that would get really annoying... i mean.. basic info i would understand (like, name , date of birth.. wife name, date of birth, marriage dates, kids, etc...), but things like.. all the places i have lived in the past 5 years, or places i worked in the last 5 years..i don't know by heart, we moved around a lot, i mean it took me research to find some of that info, even my wife couldn't remember all the places we lived a long time ago.. ... thanks for reading

My IO went through every line of the application with me today. She just wanted yes/no answers to everything to see if anything had changed. I had a few changes to make and she updated the application accordingly. You are not expected to remember dates, addresses and so on, if nothing has changed, just answer yes when the IO asks did you live at xxxx from yyyy to zzzzz. No biggie really.

My wife was recommended for approval after her interview today, but her Oath Ceremoney may not be for six more months because she is requesting a name change. The IO told her the soonest she could naturalize is at least two months from now.

So, if you're doing a name change, be prepared to wait.

I requested a name change on the N-400, but have changed my mind in the meantime. I was just going to use the shortened version of my name with a first letter change, which is essentially what people call me anyway, but it would just easier to pronounce for Americans. When I think about all the legal documents/accounts etc that I need to update afterwards, I decided since sending in my application that it's too much hassle, so I'll tell the IO to scrap that part of the application during my interview.

The only problem is I need to do the oath in a different state as I'm moving from Florida to Colorado a few days after the interview and that will delay things anyway. With luck I'll be allowed to continue with the interview in Tampa as I will still be a resident of that district office by the time of the interview and the IO will allow me to do the Oath in Denver. Hopefully he/she won't stop the interview and say that I need to do the interview in Denver also. We'll find out soon enough....

For offices that do judicial naturalization it doesn't induce any delay in the application, for office that don't, it might introduce delays because they have to wait until the next ceremony is conducted by judges.
