I am currently preparing I-130s for my parents and I do have a doubt about their marriage certificate. The thing is that under Italian law, effective January 1, 2012 all certificates released to citizens include a footnote stating that the certificate cannot be presented to government agencies, public administration officials and the like, according to the principle that certificates are only valid among private entities; when dealing with the government, instead, Italian citizens can just present a self-certification form along with a copy of a valid ID. Now, such law does have an exception when it comes to immigration matters, making the certificate valid in cases like mine; the problem, on the other hand, is that my parents' marriage certificate only states the part where it cannot be presented to government agencies. As I am in the process of translating the document, what are your thoughts and suggestions on this? I am thinking of referencing the law's number in my translation as a translator's note, do you guys think that would be acceptable for USCIS?

I don't like the idea of getting an RFE based on such a petty bureaucratic technicality. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

Pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the U.S. Department of State regarding my timeframe. I had no big expectations about it, but I just went and checked my P.O. Box right on the 27th, which was the first on or about date stated while in final processing stages, and the envelope was actually there, containing both my certificate and my brand new passport. Thanks to that, I finally got rid of the "SSA status update" yesterday; been told it will take them 24 hours to update my record in their systems, will not receive a duplicate card, no further action required.

So glad to be finally a U.S. citizen. Still feels kind of unreal, but it's my legitimate nationality, now. It was a beautiful ceremony held at Castillo San Cristobal in Old San Juan, in a hot, sunny tropical afternoon; one of the guests who spoke at the ceremony even joked about how we just learned what it means to "sweat for the country" during his speech. We were 101 new citizens from 22 different countries, with me being the only representative for my country. We even made headlines! I didn't waste any time, though, and last Saturday I both registered to vote (got my voter's ID on the spot) and already surrendered my beautiful certificate in order to apply for a Passport. Looking forward to get it in the mail so that I can pay a visit to the local SSA office and update my status with them. Last but not least, I need to upgrade my driver's license to the Real ID format (here, they became available exactly one week after I renewed my old one ), so that it finally states "Citizen".

Of all the appreciation for the help I have received from friends, family, loved ones during the different stages of my immigration journey, I can't leave out the fair share of credit that needs to go to the precious information found on this community and to the knowledgeable users that make it up. Thank you visajourney!

But I still can't say that I'm done with USCIS, though, because next step involves (most likely) filing I-130s for my parents, which makes me believe that I'll still be around for a while.

Just got back from the Post Office with good news... Oath ceremony has been scheduled for September 8.

Is it weird that it's been a week since my interview and my case status online still says Interview Scheduled?

Our timelines are very similar. I just checked my case online and I found out I am in line for an oath ceremony; hopefully, your change in status is coming soon as well. Good luck!

I had my interview this morning at about 11AM and I passed it. The ISO was a strict and straightforward Caucasian. After letting me in his room, he told me which chair to sit and where to place my stuff (docs). He asked for my IDs including the GC then started asking me the Civic Questions (What Ocean is on the West of US, Whats the title of the National Anthem, What is the rule of Law, the age to vote, etc.) and made me read a sentence (which was in a form of a question), and write the answer on a piece of paper. He went over the docs on file, which took 5 minutes i guess, asked confirmatory questions which was the interview portion, then signed various papers. After almost 15 minutes, he told me that I passed and congratulated me then handing to me the Interview Result form and Oath-taking procedure which he said I have to bring. After all these process, he led me out of the door and photocopied my IDs,

Now, its time to wait for the Oath-taking ceremony. I checked on LACC's website and the next sked would be on July 20 and I hope I will be on or included on that ceremony.

My experience yesterday was VERY similar to yours. The man was strict, cold and insensitive from the moment he called my name until we parted ways. Told me which chair to sit and not move it (!), asked to see my Green Card and then started abruptly with the exam right after the oath. Questions were: 1. Amendments about who can vote, 2. U.S. concern during Cold War, 3. Reasons colonists came to America, 4. Right or freedom from the First Amendment, 5. Who is in charge of the executive branch, 6. If President can no longer serve, who becomes President. I answered all six correctly, so he proceeded with the reading and writing. Made me read "Which state has the most people", and write "California has the most people". Continued doing his business and writing, handing out the interview results that said I was recommended for approval without even congratulating, stating that that paper was mine.

He printed out a paper with my information for me to review and sign, as he explained that will be the info that is going to be on my naturalization certificate; made me sign the N-400 form and the passport photos that were sent with the application. He finally started asking the Yes/No questions so fast I could not believe it, plus some other personal questions like my birthdate, my height, marital status, how many times I was married, last time I traveled outside the U.S., where do I work, and that was it. Took me out of his office and if I didn't say goodbye or shook hands with him, he wouldn't have spoken a single word to me in the 20 minutes I was there.

I left the office without even feeling like I just passed the interview.

Well, looks like I have been worrying too much for nothing. Yesterday afternoon me and my wife have finally received the e-mail notification that my interview was scheduled. I couldn't be happier I have been proven wrong about my local office timeframes! Now I can't wait for the letter to arrive!

Congrats to all fellow Marchers for their progress! I was curious about hearing from those of you who were recently interviewed; what kind of evidence/documentation did you bring with you, and what did the IO ask you to show him/her?

A March 2015 applicant became a citizen in September 2015. That's the most recent datapoint because sadly very few people update their timelines. And there aren't that many VJ members in PR to begin with.

You can try the brute-force method and search through all the monthly threads for the last two years... go to the last updated table for each thread and see if you can find a timeline in San Juan...but you won't find many.

I did a timeline search, and found one PR filer from march 2015. It took them almost 6 months from NOA to oath. Unfortunately it is one of the smaller sized offices, not many VJer data is available.

Thanks to both of you! You know, even USCIS website states that as of March 31, the filing date for the last processed application is October 13, 2015, which appears to be in line with other field offices that, on the other hand, have already scheduled interviews for fellow March applicants. So, I really don't know what to think... Anyways, come what may, it's all good for me. By the way, it looks like they just recently updated the processing times; one hour ago it was still showing cases processed as of February 29.

The Atlanta field office used to be one of the slowest in the country, but then became one of the fastest.

For example, the two December 2015 applicants in Atlanta became citizens in March 2016

The one January 2016 filer was interviewed last week.

That's pretty fast compared to other offices.

But perhaps they've started to slow down again. We should be able to tell soon... if they stay on the same fast pace, you should get your interview letters in May/June for interviews in June/July. If that happens, Atlanta will continue to be one of the fastest offices. (This assumes that your background check is done by then, which doesn't have anything to do with the local office.)

FYI, Atlanta processes all Georgia and Alabama applications.

Do you happen to know anything about San Juan? I have this feeling that I'll still be "In line for an interview" when the rest of you Marchers has already been "passport in hand" for a while. Since I last filed for ROC almost four years ago, my impression is that the local field office was dramatically downsized, being moved to a smaller location, with a considerably reduced number of employees, which makes me tend to believe I still have a fair amount of wait time ahead of me. The day I attended for my biometrics only two officers were serving the entire center, which on the other hand became pretty packed shortly upon my arrival; I could walk out of there relatively fast only because I got there half an hour before my scheduled appointment time.

I found out this morning I am now officially in line.

I just received a text notification (checked online and confirmed) that my case is IN LINE FOR AN INTERVIEW today.

Congrats! As for me, I just got back from my biometrics appointment. It was a breeze, and it felt great, because I finally feel like I'm slowly getting closer to the goal, one step at a time.

N-400: March 2016 Applicants

Hi everyone.

It's been one month since I received my conditional GC and I am about to receive a permanent contract in my job (hopefully by Thursday). I have been visiting some car dealers in the last few months as I quite desperately need a car to get to my job and everything, and what I have been repeatedly told is that I might get an approval once I shown a permanent job and a proof of residence (that is GC). Now, when I had my driver's license exam passed, the guys at the transportation authority could just award me a license that expires in two years, as it is conditioned and tied to the residence valid dates. Given that, I was now wondering if the same story would apply to a car's loan (in which case I would be just ****ed, 'cause the duration of a bank financing is way longer than two years); basically I thought that if they believe I do not offer a sufficient guarantee in terms of residence for the payments, they will just shred my application once again.

So the only way for me to erase the doubt is by asking this amazing forum. If anyone has personal experiences with such a case, I would be SO glad to read your stories.

The only document I needed for getting a health plan coverage was my SSN, which I possessed way before I could get my GC. And it's already been six months since I am covered, as I eventually received my GC just last month. Anyway, the plan I am in is not a familiar one, that means it doesn't include my wife because we both decided for two individual ones, as they would have given us a lower monthly pay that way. My suggestion is to check on the many other health plan providers' requirements, since you should be able to find companies not needing the GC as an ID (my foreign passport and SSN were just fine for me). For your information, my health plan is Medical Card Systems, which I actually don't know if it's operating in the 48 continental states (I live in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico).

Thanks again for your experiences! Here's the update. Last Saturday I eventually received the "approval notice" at home, and thank goodness, my beautiful card was attached to it. Today I could go to the local SSA office with it, and apply for my original card... this time everything should go smoothly, unlike the application I made in August with my then unexpired I-94. [ ] Hope it's coming fast, I just can't wait to start working and getting a local driver's licence.
