  2. Morning ladies and Charles (whenever he stops by). It's AUGUST already! :) I am all smiles today. It's my birthday tomorrow and well I already got the best birthday gift! God, my son, my hubby and an approved I-130. I feel so blessed.

Anywho...all week I been down to drinking just half cup of coffee....trying to ween myself off before ramadan. I've already got a hella headache going on and it's only 9:30am, argh! I was hoping to be off coffee by next week. Honestly, I LOVE coffee. It's my one true addiction (well besides junk food :P ). Not sure how the weening away is gonna go. Any advice??

Alrighty well....time to go harrass my son about cleaning his room. Have a lovely day everyone. :D

thats so awesome 100% Al Ahly Fan, im so happy for ya'll!!!! hope my k1 comes quickly, my SO is getting so frustrated right now he can barely stand it. he wants to be here now!!! i want him here now too, but i told him we have to wait our turn just like everyone else. ughhhhhhhh, why can't i just sleep away the days and wake when he gets here!!! :crying:

  3. Hi Patricia! Welcome! I totally understand the family thing also. My family is not real thrilled, they think I have lost my mind, could totally not understand how I could love someone I had not actually seen IRL etc etc. Oh well, I went to Egypt last month and came back in one piece. wow! LOL Anyway, welcome and dont be shy. :)

thanks so much for the welcome skerber0, my family also couldnt figure out how i could fall in love with someone i have never met. i think its a generational thing...they arent real big into the internet either so that wasnt helpful either. i too came back in one peice and even called them everyday i was there. one day i was talking to my mom when i was there and he asked to talk with her and she said no...he was so heart broken that i hung up on my mom for saying that and he even cried a little, but he tried not to show it. i felt SO bad for him. :(

  4. hi everyone, im Patricia from the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area. im engaged to Zouhair from Khemisset, Morocco. i met him on myspace in december '08 and i went to morocco to meet him in April 09. best 6 days of my life!!!!. he told me about VJ before going there as his cousin told him about it. VJ has given me everything ive needed so far and im SO grateful to be able to read about others here that are in the same shoes as me. makes me feel less alone. i have 1 son who is 7 going on 17, lol....from a previous marriage. my family are totally against what im doing and tried to talk me out of going there...they thought some really bad stuff would happen to me there, but they were wrong of course and when i came back they still think he will end up hurting me in the end. i told them...dont judge someone u refuse to get to know. and i also told them not to say anything else bad about him, his family or his country or religion as i already have enough stress going through this immigration process to deal with their ignorance. so, they just dont say anything at all about him which has been good. i still cant see my case in USCIS website, which is ok i guess since it really doesnt show much, just would like to know that they are actually "touching" my file and not forget about it. anyway, im on here everyday and i read most of the posts and im pretty shy till i get to know someone, i think thats why i just started posting here. everyone here in "mena-land" is so friendly to one another and i could always use more friends supporting me with this and i can provide some support to anyone who needs it. hope everyones "journey" here goes smoothly and quickly.

Welcome again Patricia. I remember and know exactly what you are goin thru. My parents wanted nothing to do with the fact that I was goin to Morocco and that I was gonna marry this man. In fact, they didn't come to my wedding (their loss). And its been almost 2 years and now they want to meet him. Unfortunatly my husband has no interest in meeting them.:( Good luck on your journey here! And if you need to talk, we are like one big family here.

thanks so much Turia, my mom says even when he comes here she dont want to meet him, but ill bet if we have kids she be the first one in the delivery room! he says he cant forgive them for what they said about him and i dont blame him! maybe someday we can all get along :innocent:

  6. Well, my friend and I are heading to Morocco in November to meet our soon to be fiances....It crazy...we are best friends, becoming engaged to best friends...lol Anyway, I want to take all of the paperwork that he needs to fill our for the fiance visa, since the mail system sucks & DHL is crazy expensive...what all do I need to take with me? I know to keep reciepts, plane tickets, LOTS of pics, etc....Anything else?? Also I have no clue what to bring as gifts for the family...I know...I'm probably thinking too much about it, but that's what i do...lol Last question...Has anyone taken a laptop with them or used an american laptop with wireless card in Morocco...if so, did it work, or did u still need to get seperate service?? Thanks :)

thats great that u have someone to go with u! i was so nervous going there by myself. if u are doing the i129f, he needs to fill out his g325, on there is a place for him to put his address in arabic. i didnt realize this till i got back and he had to mail me his and i got it in like 20 days. he also need to give u the letter of intent to marry...he has to sign it. i didnt take any gifts with me, but i bought his mom a purse while i was there and i sent all the women in the family something for valentines day...that was before i went there. be careful about saying u like something in there home coz they will give it to u. i dont have a laptop, but i saw alot of people on the plane with one. i did buy a converter plug in case i needed to charge my phone, but i never used it. i bought it at best buy for about 25$ what i did use was a charger for my phone that has a usb end, that worked pretty good for me. i use att for my service, but it was still expensive to call home that way, just had to have the service put on my plan for that. oh, if u plan to use a debit card there, talk to your bank before u go and tell them where u are going and when and they can set that up too to work just for those days. im glad i did coz otherwise it wouldnt have worked. i used an atm there to get cash, but its pretty expensive the fees and all, so if u use it try to do it only once and get enough for your stay. i had to use it twice and it cost me about 40$ hope where u stay has a western toilet, but some places u go dont have it. and bring toilet paper or baby wipes just in case. i brought all kinds of otc meds, but the only one i really used was gas-ex. lol. they try to make u eat like a horse there, and since there food is delicious i ate it all! oh, make sure u keep your boarding passes, and i kept the luggage tags too. your boarding passes will have your name on it so that shows proof u actually boarded the plane. keep ALL receipts even for food and take pics you u eating together. pics with the family are good too. always have your cam ready and charged!!! its always a good time for pics! not just posing for them, anything natural is good too. we had his sister follow us while we were shopping and take our pics alot. i only stayed for 6 days and got in about 500 pics not including the ones for the fiance ceremony. i sent in about 100 pics with our petition along with almost all our chat logs and emails. when i sent my box to uscis it weighed 12 lbs! about 1000 pages i think. hope u 2 have a great time, wish i was going with u but hopefully my SO will be here before christmas. it will be the most amazing time in your life, its like a dream come true to actually touch them for real. i miss my SO so much, but it does get a little bit better over time, i have to keep myself busy to keep my mind off of it. sometimes i just have to shut off the computer and leave the house or ill be on this computer till he gets here, lol! if i can think of anything else ill reply again. u can ask me anything and ill try to give u an answer. assalamo 3alaikum

  7. Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone in MENA here has ever lived in Dallas or knows about what its like there. Is it any better than houston or about the same diversity wise, etc? We are thinking of moving there soon and taking a trip there to also see what it is really like. We want to live in a big city. My husband met a egyptian guy who loves dallas and said they have a large community of egyptians there but I dunno if that is true...we arent really searching for a large egyptian community but a place that is more diverse and young. Any thoughts? Thanks :)

i currently live in the dallas/fort worth area. i know there is a large population of arabs in the north dallas/richardson area. lots of mslim businesses too. i have a muslim yellow pages for this area if u have any questions

  9. Hello Everyone!

My fiance usually purchase an asian international calling card but the quality is not good because phone connection is bad...either I cannot hear him nor he cannot hear me clearly, a lot of static on the line....

I use Globe tipid card and it's cheaper and more clear.....We are now enjoying the use of chikka messenger....Text messaging from PC to cellphone....additional way of communication for a long distance relationship.... (F)(L)

go to www.gtalk.us/pinless i use this to call morocco cell. it has 1 minute rounding, no fees. does not charge u if they dont answer or if the phone is off, so no wasting minutes. i'm not sure on price per minute for u though. i pay about 25 cents per minute with this and its worth it coz i dont waste minutes. the connection is good too. u can set up your calls to the same number by dialing you access number. i have mine programmed in my cell and dont have to input a pin number, its great!
