  1. Thanks all. I'll gather one of those documents.

I'm not moving by choice. My husband works for a large US corporation with projects abroad and unfortunately we are being moved for his work. No choice.

Are reentry permit is needed when a permanent resident intends to leave the USA for 1 year or longer (2 years max). You are not even a resident yet, but you are ready to leave for such a long time right away?

If so, you are jeopardizing your residency right from the start.

  2. My husband (the US Citizen) and I are moving to Australia for his work. He works for a US company who is transferring him. We are not yet sure how long we will be there.

I believe I have to apply for a reentry permit in order to maintain my GC status. The permanent residency status was only approved today, so it should arrive in the mail in about 30 days.

Could anyone tell me how I go about applying for a reentry permit?

Do I have to stay in the country until this arrives?

Do I have to apply for it from the US, or could I do that in Australia?

    Many thanks.

  3. Darnell, thanks for the understanding. My husband has worked for this company forever, and unfortunately they send him around. This is how we met, so I am glad for that!

Can I only apply for the re-entry permit once the green card arrives?

    Thanks again!

You could wait for the greencard to come through - but - to 'maintain yer greencard' over those 2 years, you'll have to come back to the USA on occassion.

You can also file for the re-entry permit (IIRC, those are good for up to 2 years, as well, once issued).

Good Luck ! (from a fellow 'travel for work' person )

  4. Many thanks Darnell, I will take this into consideration.

My biggest worry now is whether I should wait for my greencard to come through and then apply for a reentry permit . . .

Another alternative thing to consider -

if you don't have any greencard, and go to Australia to live with yer husband (as dependent under his Australia work visa)

then 6 months after you two are 'in country' - and about 4 to 5 months prior to the scheduled 'jump from Australia' date -

he can file new I-130 petition via Direct Consular Filing to the US Embassy/Australia - bypass any USA-paperwork-processing.

Good Luck, however it turns out.

  5. Not by choice... we thought we would be here for some time. My husband works for a big US firm, the biggest construction firm in the US of A, but unfortunately they have many projects abroad and if one wants to keep a job, you do as they say.

The Green Card is the permission to live and work in the US of A. It also requires you to live in the US of A. If you move to Australia, your Green Card is gone and . . . no, you can't become a US citizen.

At this point, you might as well focus on becoming a resident of Australia instead of the US of A. I always thought the US of A is a big enough country to find a job; I would never have thought of having to move 8000 miles away in order to find work. That's so sad!

    Best of luck to you.

  6. Hallo

My husband and I got married on the 1st of Feb 2010 and I am still waiting for my greencard. It was transferred to California SC on the 28th of April.

My husband got word yesterday that we will have to move to Australia for work (I don't work). We are not sure for how long we will be there, it all depends on the length of the project.

I did not apply for AP since I didn't expect to be moving so soon.

    I have a few questions:

    1. The California SC statistics say that my Green Card will only be ready mid September. How can I get over to Australia with my husband while the GC is still in process?

    2. How can I make sure that I do not loose my GC status?

    3. In the event I do loose my GC status (if we are there too long), can one still file for citizenship based on the fact that you are married to a US citizen?

    Thanks!!!

  7. From all the stories that I have read, I think my experience was rather good.

Irvington Clinic is not the most glamerous clinic in Houston, but who cares when the doctor will sign the paper for $50 and you wait only a mere few minutes.

I was short one shot which cost me $75 extra, but the staff were all really professional and friendly. Yes, I will recommend this place for sure. They understand what needs to be done and waiting time is kept down to a minimum:

    Dr. Mariano Caceres, Irvington Clinic

5310B Irvington Boulevard, Houston, TX 77009

    (713) 691-4747

  8. I also called around today and also got mixed information. Some wanted to do a new TB skin test and others wanted to charge $185 to simply sign the form.

I found one doctor whom I will go to:

    # Dr. Mariano Caceres, Irvington Clinic

5310B Irvington Boulevard, Houston, TX 77009

    (713) 691-4747

She only charges $50 . . . let's see how long I have to wait for before I give feedback.

  9. Hi there again!!

So happy for you that eventhough you by accident applied for the wrong consulate/embassy, it all worked out just fine.. How lucky are you. And 33 days. I could still only hope and pray for that... let's see. I'm positive...

We applied for ours with a lawyer/visa help firm in the US, and eventhough they are very good for the petition submission I am not sure they are that good for my processing, that is why I am very very very worried.

Firstly, I am now totally confused about how many packages arrive... what is what?

Secondly, I might be visiting my fiance when the package arrives - what to do then?

What additional documents do you need - Police clearances from all countries lived in, birth certificates, what else??

Do you think it makes a big difference that your I129F is in VSC and yours CSC? Is CSC faster?

    What is the DS230?

Thanks a big bunch for helping me here... after this I will be an expert and hopefully carry my knowledge forward and help someone else :)

I still need to find my way around this website... It's really helpful...

  10. Hi JSVP,

thanks so much for your reply... Please help me with a few abreviations you used here :-) I'm a tad confused, and obviously a newby.

Did you apply for Abu Dhabi or Dubai? Mine is for Dubai...

How many different packets do we get? We recieved the NOA1, nothing else yet. What is packet3/4?? Is this packet 3 and 4 or packet 3 of 4?

    What is my SO?

33 days for NOA2!!! How fantastic is that. Congrats. You must be so relieved... Where are you and where is your fiance?

I would be very if not extremely happy, if you share your journey with me, and so will I. This is a long process, and an emotional one at that too, so please please, would be great.

Maybe I know some stuff you don't either, and can help along the line...

All the best... hear from you soon. x

PS: Great that you have been to PE.... The Cape/Eastern Cape/Garden Route is such a beautiful place.

    hi Jeli....

check my timeline below, you can roughly measure from our dates. don't be surprise if the packet 3/4 is received by your SO in US....it appears that this is the AD,UAE procedure, nothing to be mailed to them ahead of the interview date such as the so called DS230 Part1. I've considerably asked co-vjs experience here in UAE and convinced that they are right. First, they went through the actual process and althou due to different months and/or year of application, it can vary but not unless if you are close enough with each others timelines ....which is the case and since its my turn, the same procedure is where am heading so far.

thankfully we got a surprise 33 days NOA2 and we now have interview date on June which came along with the packet 3/4 combined and was sent to USC instead of me (the beneficiary) so am still waiting the packet. (my SO has scanned the basic instructions to me anyway)

    Goodluck to you....

i shall be sharing it to you our journey.... same as i hope u dont mind if a dropby to you for inquiries as well.

hey i like P.E. in SA :star:

  11. Hey All...

I've been reading quite a bit on this website, and now is my turn to ask a few questions:

My fiance and I met while both living and working in Dubai. Unfortunatley, due to the economic situtation, he lost his job and returned to the US in March 09 to a great job. Our K1 application was submitted on the 8th of April, notice of application received today. Questions are:

    1. We submitted to the Vermont service centre. What have other members experienced in terms of the waiting time for the approval of their K1 petition?

    2. How long after the K1 petition (NOA2) has been approved does one receive the package from the embassy?

    3. Is it worthwhile to have my fiance present at the interview? Is there anyone here from South Africa, living in the UAE, with a fiance from the US?

    Thanks a bunch...
