  1. You guys are really super, thank you so much for the detailed and fast responses. Can I pick your brains a little further, I have actually tried to figure this out for myself but it is a little unclear so... What about a social security number for my wife and my step-daughter? Do we not need that before filing the I-485? I see that form I-485 asks for a SSN but maybe it isn't mandatory?

    Thanks again!

  2. If anyone knows the answer to this it would be great. My fiance (now my wife) and her daugther entered the US with me on November 19th, 2009 with K1/K2 visas. The daugther turned 19 on November 21st. She has decided that she wants to return to Ukraine to continue her education and be with her friends. My question is, is she required to leave within 90 days of entering the US on the K2 visa and if she does or doesn't what implications will this have on possible future attempts to return to or visit the US?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    William

  3. A) Once you new the interview day

    B) After Interview

    C) Once Kiev had your filed

    D) Other

I was planning to buy the ticket after I get the interview date. I'm thiking of buying a tiket departing from Kiev 15 days after the interview. What do you think???

We chose option A. We have 10 days from interview date to flight home. Sure hope it's enough as yea those change fees are pretty significant. Assuming Lena is granted the visa we plan to wait to pick it up ourselves at Fed-Ex in Kyiv so hopefully that will take only a few days then it is back to her place to pack and then back to Kyiv...

  4. I'm out! And no I don't mean out of the closet... not that there's anything wrong with that...

Ok yeah I am feeling a little high at the moment... I knew it would happen this week and sure enough when I called she said it left today... So our interview should be around Christmas...

Billy, She asked me why you didnt answer the phone when she called you.... it was the same # that you got on caller ID and it still has the same message when you call it...

The best estimate at this point if someone gets Actual AP is to expect a month and if less than that its great... nothing can be done to speed up the FBI check... nothing .. so dont let it get to you if you are in it.. treat it like a rip tide... just go with it and it will let you go before too long... fighting it just wears you out and does no good....

Congratulations Scott!!! Glad you needed to be, and were, outed only from NVC...not that there's anything wrong with that... :) I figured/hoped it would be today for you. Strange that she asked that??? The reason I didn't answer the phone was simple--I was down the hall and heard the phone only on the last ring or two, so--just missed the call. I would like to ask her "why no voice-mail?" :bonk: Oh well it all turned out ok - was one of the biggest "whew" moments in life.

    Happy trails!

  5. Hi everyone,

I posted this less than an hour ago in the "US Consulate/Embassy" section but I realize that it's more appropriate to this forum. Dear administrators - please don't be mad at me for posting the same topic in multiple threads. I am simply moving myself here b/c I need a response quickly. My travel agent is standing ready to book the tix and I don't want to lose them!

Here's my original post as of an +/- an hour ago:

My fiance's visa was approved at the Naples consulate this past Wednesday!!

Now I have a question and I'm not sure where to post it. We are in the process of booking my flight to visit him for Xmas and then our flight together to the U.S. Here's the rub:

Our flight to the U.S. will be my return flight, but for him it's his flight TO the U.S. One way flights cost twice as much as round trip, so the economically most advantageous option is to book a round trip ticket and then not use the return portion of it. So essentially that makes it a "fake" return for the purposes of getting the cheaper rate. I would hate to spend the money on a one-way only flight if it's unnecessary, but will booking a RT ticket cause him problems when he gets to the US with his K-1 visa?

I have to book this flight soon, so your responses will be very helpful!!

I found a site where it appears you can buy one-way tickets fairly cheaply: http://www.bt-store.com/default.asp?CatID=...CFSC7sgodAz102A

    Good luck!

  6. Ladonna and Crazy Mazy were right, that when the supervisor said "nothing new with your case" it didnt mean i wouldnt be approved the next day. And now we are out of AP!! They said it went out yesterday!! :o Thank you Lord Jesus! Thanks to everyone whom gave us encouragement and prayers. Wow! What a journey it has been thus far. And what a Godsend VJ is!

Congratulations! I thought you'd be out soon since we went in on the same day. Big sigh!

  7. OMG it is a happy day. I was almost to depressed to call today but i just did and was told it was sent today. 34 days in the hole and finally i am out. One thing like many other people i e=mailed my congressman yesterday and today i am out. Do not know if it made a difference but i think it happens here to many times to always be a coincidence.. Hang in there anyone still stuck in AP

    Cool! Congratulations!

  8. Thank you for the congratulations everyone! Yea really a great day. And like Ladonna said, the operator seemed so happy to give me the good news. I am still curious about that phone call yesterday morning but I guess I will never know the reason for it. CrazyMary was probably right, the person that tried to call me would probably be fired for being nice, if that is what they were doing, if a superior at NVC found out that they had tried to call me. :)))

  9. May main objection (and it still is) was the letter they sent me when my case first arrived to NVC. That letter clearly said my case was approved and would be forwarded to the consulate within 7 days. I found out 2 weeks later it was still in NVC and it stayed there 2 weeks more after that. They should stop sending that misleading letter to people, and replace it with a letter saying simply "your case has arrived at NVC and is undergoing processing... we will notify you when there is a change in your status or if we require further documentation." That would solve a lot of grief.

Exactly, that is my main gripe!

  10. @ Waiting4him - woo !! congrats !! - once they told me mine had shipped - I dared not to call back - I can only handle so much self inflicted torture :(

    @dhc - congrats !!

    @ Dennis&Dane - yes !!!

@lenaandbilly - try calling the "real" dept of state ?? See if they can give you an update ?? (Not NVC) - **side note - do you really think NVC would admit to calling ?? That would be considered "customer service and who ever called would prob be fired .... - good luck ! Hope it means good things

@missmissy - fingers crossed !! Hope you get some good news !!

@chris@beth - is no way for knowing for sure

@ScottThuy - good luck - this whole process sinks to go though then this extra glitch is just added frustration :(

    @d&z - fingers crossed for u also

Sorry if I overlooked anyone - congrats if you got out and good luck to all still in !

Thanks CrazyMary but I called them, at least I called 202-663-1225. In AP is what they say--I have been unable to get any sort of hints or time frame estimates as other people here have talked about. I was hoping that yesterday's phone call was a hint, but our petition didn't leave as of yesterday. Surely it means that at least someone is looking at our file? There have been 9 packages leave for Kyiv since the 28th of September. I was sure that each one would be ours as there are only about 9 of us here waiting for one but then it hit me that there are probably people going through this process that aren't members of this site and... Oh well, the wait continues--day 34. Hopefully some of us will escape today. New day, new hope.

Lena left today for Kyiv where she will get her medical exam tomorrow, feels good to be making progress but DAMN I thought she'd already be here by now!!!

  11. I just got a call from NVC I think. The number is 603-334-9400 and "US.GOVT DEPT OF" showed on the Caller ID. I didn't make it to the phone on time unfortunately and and they left no message and when I called this number back the recording said "you have reached a non-working number of the US DEPT OF STATE, check the number..."

Has anyone heard of this happening? I am both excited and scared that they called me. I guess at this point I would rather just be denied than to keep waiting indefinitely without knowing anything. I don't think my fiancee or I have any reasons for denial so I'll try to stay positive but this process has pushed me right to the edge of sanity. On second thought maybe I have already slipped over that edge...

I just called the number for self-torture and the guy was really nice and tried to find out what was going on/who called. After holding for five minutes or so he came back on the line and said he had been unable to find out anything and that there appears to be no change in my case status and that if no one calls me from there within an hour to call back and ask for a supervisor.

On the edge, not sure which side.

Funny to quote oneself, but for information puposes...

I talked to a supervisor this evening about the phone call I had received from NVC this morning and after some investigation she said that she was told that I should forget about the phone call. LOL! :))) I am hoping that it means that they are finally at least looking our my file, any opinions? Looking for some kind of hope.

  12. Are you signed up for e-mail notification???!!!! I never heard of a missed call from them. Good luck

Yea I'm signed up for e-mail communication. And neither have I ever heard of someone being called from NVC, but it happened to me this morning. Maybe it was an accident? :):( I have since talked to the supervisor and she also found out nothing about the call or any news about our case. Why don't they just send the GD petition to the embassy??? What a bunch of !@#$!!! At least my fiancee will get some life insurance money if I die of a heart attack before this !@#$ is over.

  14. If they are actually doing something, checking names, etc. (which I thought was what was supposed to have taken place during the almost six months we were at VSC) then great, but they should communicate this and provide a time frame and then the whole process wouldn't be neary as frustrating. But I highly doubt there is anything organized taking place. As someone said on here--just imagine if we let the government get control of the health-care industry!!!

    Lost at Bureaucra-Sea.
