  1. This is an interesting thread.

My husband also does the same. Thank goodness we won't have an interview. He just got his approval letter from the CSC today in the mail.

Most people are saying that it could be that Africans just aren't as responsive to dates and number, which is true, but it could also be that he's just not a number person. My mother will remember long strings of numbers that she's seen only once but you tell her to buy you something at the grocery store and she'll completely forget. Maybe your husband is the opposite. Nothing to do with intelligence but dealing with what your brain is more responsive to.

Anyway, I'm sure you're interview will go fine. Just practice. Good luck!

  2. Hello Everyone!

I got word today that my fiances interview will be the 6th of October. This is a tuesday. He'll obviously have to get to Dakar a few days before so he can get his medical out of the way.

I want to know if anyone has had experience with the medical offices and if they were open on weekends?

Any other dakar tips? medical or otherwise?

    This is so exciting!

(Ignore my signature, I haven't updated it yet. Will do soon...)

    Hey

I know you!!! I was so excited today because I called the embassy to make an appt to drop off our petition and they gave me a rendez-vous for... Oct 6!!! So you going to come to your love's interview??? do i hear party in Dakar?!?!?

Ousmane's coming up next week and I am stuck with finding an appt for us while simutaneously COSing and celebrating selidini alone next week!!!

    much love,

    Michele

Michele, OMG this is crazy! How is Ousmane?!

Your interview is the 6th too? Hmm where are you guys staying? Maybe I'll put Pascal in contact with you so you can help him out. I have another friend who is in Dakar but thgouh she's cool, I haven't seen her in forever. Give me your number and I'll give you a call.

Unfortunately I can't make it to Dakar. I can't get off work and this really bothers me. I just really hope that everything goes well. And now I'm freaking out about the medical. Ok, we need to talk about this. I'll see you on facebook.

  4. Hmmm..... What's the difference between dialects and languages? Manding and Wolof are definitely two very distinct and different languages. There aren't any similarities between them at all....I know what you're saying, though. Because I speak some Manding, I can also understand some Pulaar and Bambara, etc.

It's been a while since I've posted. I hope everyone is doing well.

Attaya girl, you speak some Bambara? I ni che? I ka kene wa? I che be bo Senegali. Ne che be bo Mali la. U fila bee be se ka Bananakan fo. I jiga, an bena visa soro k'an che bila Ameriki.

My fiance speaks Bambara, though he's not from the Bambara tribe. He's a Bobo or Bwa, which is on the Malian Burkina Border. He speaks French, Bambara, Bomu, Peul (Fula), and Minianka. We speak French together, with a little bit of English and Bambara thrown in.

And its right what you said earlier. They are all distinct languages. Completely different and apart from one another.

  5. Saran, I think it does depend where you live. I live near Washington DC which is a very liberal multicultural city. I (as a black female) haven't had many problems here. Plus I have very close friends who are muslim. After 9/11 I did hear that one of my friends sisters had some problems but at the moment I think everything is ok with her. I heard that someone tried to pull off her headscarf while she was on the metro train.

I do think that everyone is a little racist though. Till this day, my father believes that if he interviews for a job with an Asian or South Asian person, he won't get the job. My father is black. I've also experienced a lot of racism within the African-American community. Racism against whites, asians, hispanics and africans (believe it or not). People (espectially uneducated ones) are stuck in their ideas about certain races and will prejudge them at every given chance. Like someone mentioned earlier, it's best if you just let it go. Ignore it, because once you start to look out for these things, you'll see it at every corner. But if you just live your life and try to treat other people as you would like to be treated then everything will be fine. Best of luck!

  6. Haha! Great thread, but I don't have anything to add to it yet. Pascal is still in Mali. My parents used to ship me stuff while I was there though and I know that he was freaked out about cream of mushroom soup straight from the can. I think the texture scared him. I can't wait until he sees the other oddities that America has to offer.

However, I want to be as supportive and kind as possible but I know there are going to be times when I'm frustrated. Start this thread again in about 8 months!

  7. we're all ...... :clock:

    Anyone hear anything yet?

I recently sent another package to the USCIS. My original Letter of intent which took 3 weeks to get here (I had sent in a faxed copy with the I-129F) and my fiance's change of address. I'm hoping that with some new docs coming in they'll pay some more attention to my petition and approve it. I'm hoping at least...

    Good luck everyone.

  8. Nothing here, kind of sucks

Well this lack of progress for the month of April for everyone is too frustrating.

Bought a ticket yesterday... flying out this afternoon for a week to be together.

Hope to return to the wheels turning.

I wish I had the money to do that! Have fun

Someone needs to come up with cheap airfares to or from the UK. :)

I called the department of immigration today b/c my fiance is in the process of moving. For the beneficiary's notification of a move, it only requires a letter to the service center. Just in case anyone else runs into that situation. I'm attaching a copy of our NOA1 to the letter.

I'm in the same situation. He can't receive mail at the address I wrote down so I wanted to add a P.O. Box number after I mailed it off. Thanks for this info.

  9. If you sent in a check you can get your EAC number from the back of the check. They have to write it on there when they cashed it. I was so impatient that once my check was cashed, I called up Bank of America customer service to have them read to me the numbers on the back. Sure enough one was the EAC and I was able to check the status online. There wasn't any new info online though, just that they had received our petition but still, it made me feel like I was doing something. :)

    Good Luck everyone!

  10. What if the Beneficiary's address you wrote on the I-129F isn't right? Like they moved? Or you realized that they can't receive mail at the address you provided?

I have an alternative address, a P.O. Box, but what would be the best way to notify USCIS of the change? Also is this even neccessary? What will he need to receive in the mail?

I'm early in the process but I'd like to get this taken care of ASAP. I was under the impression before that all papers would be sent to me first. And then if neccessary I would send them to him. But if this is a problem I'd rather get it straightened out now.

    Thanks!
