  1. Hi Guys,

So I just started working and our company got a new client and I need to travel to Toronto every week. I have my conditional GC and my passport will be expiring soon. I will be traveling by air to Canada so can I enter with a GC and a expired passport? I'm going to apply for a new one but it just takes a lot of time and I was wondering if I can travel just with a GC and my expired pass or I need a valid passport?

  2. I would apply for a job before your EAD is approved. That's what i did anyways. I would apply two months before your expected aproval because the hiring process takes about two months on average so if you get hired your potential employer can wait a week or so.

What I did, I applied 2 motnhs before I got my EAD. On the interview I would tell them that I'm in the process of getting my EAD and I would ask them when they expect you to start. Based on that you can talk to your employer and see if you can work something out. If they really like you, they can wait for a week or two.

Just be upfront and honest during your interviews...

  3. Hi All !! This is really a sad story now. When we decided to be together here in US, everything seems so good and we were happy. We were confident that with my degrees ( Bachelors in Accounting & MBA (Finance) ) from India and more then 5 years of experience working for different American companies in India (Through consulting and outsourcing) I will find something in US. So I landed here in June, got my EAD in August and green card in october. Since september I have gone all out looking for a job, met all the recruiters, have been interviewed by like 4 different organizations...but all in vain. No Success... Many recruiters have even stopped answering my calls. Never felt so unwanted and sad... All this is causing so much stress for both of us... at times both of us cry (but dont show to each other). We thought of this as a wonderful dream come true to be together after all that hard work and pain of immigration process but now I feel I am in a deep dark tunnel and there is no end to it. Thinking of leaving US now but she can't because she is still doing her graduation. Brings tears to my eyes when I look at her innocent face and the situation we are in :-( .... very very very tough life now. Please advise what should I do. Any help will be appreciated.

From what I can see, you have good credentials to be honest. Before I moved to the USA, I worked for a US company for two years and I have a BA from a European Uni. I came here, got my EAD, got called for 7-8 interviews and got three job offers. I started working two weeks after I got my EAD.

It helps if you are based in a big metropolitan area. My advice is just keep looking, tweak your resume, sell yourself when you go in an interview and make sure your CV matches the job requirments.

    Good luck with your search!

  4. My future hubby works for a large multinational consumer products company in his home country (that is a US based corp). So, even though his education is outside the US, the great thing is he has a company name on his resume that people will automatically recognize. Hopefully it will be pretty easy to get a job in the same field or same company here =) *crosses fingers* I know nothing is ever easy, but it might give him a leg up, anyway.

I agree. I gained my education outside of the USA but I worked for a multinational US company so nobody even cares about my education. They care if I have a BA and if I have the appropriate experience...

My advice is don't worry too much, start applying for job, tailor your resume for each job, get in touch with recruiters and hope for the best...

    Hope it helps...

  5. Hi guys,

Me and my wife are moving tomorrow and I wanted to ask about the AR 11 online form. I'm currently in the process of an AOS from a K-1 visa. Should I fill the form or my wife because she is the petitioner? There are two options on the website, one is if you are a non usc and one for usc. If I chose the option for a non usc then I can't fill in all the blanks because it is asking from me my employment address and of course I'm not working cos I have cases pending...

    Thank you for your help...

  6. Hi guys,

Today we received an email from USCIS saying" On August 8, 2011, the post office returned the notice we last sent you on this case I765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION as undeliverable. This may have serious effects on processing this case. Please call 1-800-375-5283 to update your mailing address for this notice to be re-sent"

First I'm confused why it wasn't delivered since we haven't changed our address and we got the NOA 1 for I 765 on the same address. Ok so we called the number above and the customer service rep was kind and she said that the letter might be the biometrics appointment but she didn't know for sure and said she will send a request so they will re-mail the letter. She also said that it might take up to 30 days for the letter to come through in which case if it's the biometrics appointment we might miss the date...

I'm wondering what can we do? Can we somehow find out the date of our biometrics appointment without the letter? I mean it wasn't our fault that the mail was not delivered...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot!

  7. Hi guys,

So we sent the AOS package on July 8th and we received an NOA on the 11th of July. Now we are living in Boston, MA and our K-1 visa was processed in VSC. Today me and my fiancee got an email saying that our case has been transferred to the California Service Center. Is this some kind of a mistake? Why is CVS processing our case? Our case starts with the letters MSC.

This is what we got via email:

On July 27, 2011, we transferred this case I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS to our CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER location for processing and sent you a notice explaining this action. Please follow any instructions provided on the notice. We will notify you by mail when a decision is made. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators.

    Should I be worried?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi guys,

Ok so as I wrote earlier we received a email containing the message above.. Today we received an email saying:

    "Your Case Status: Initial Review

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283"

I'm just curious to which USCIS office did they transfer our file now? What happens once the file has been forwarded to a Service Center? Is this a good thing or another postponement?

    All comments are appreciated...

    Cheers,

  9. Most people here will insist you need six, and they'll stomp up and down if anyone says different. I submitted two photos with each of three separate AOS packages. Each package included an I-485, I-131, and I-765. We didn't get any RFE's, and all AP's, EAD's, and green cards were approved. I've never heard of anyone getting an RFE for sending two photos instead of six.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

    Cheers,

  10. Hi guys,

I arrived in the USA on a K-1 visa, got married and now I'm preparing the AOS package which I intend to send tomorrow and I have couple of questions.

My package includes the I-485 form, I-864, I-765 form, G-325A form, I-131 form. Now in the instructions for the 1-485, I 765 and I 131 it says that I need to submit 2xphotos for each document but since I'm sending the forms at once, should I include 6 photos or just 2?

    Thanks a lot,
