  1. Dear Mandy,

I don't know how old you are but its very difficult to travel into Saudi alone. Unless you have already done the nikkah you might be able to join him on a off chance. Because he isn't Saudi his sponsor would have to get the visa for you and that is very difficult and takes a long time if its even granted. I wish I could offer something more positive, but most likely won't happen. Sorry.

  2. Hi everyone,

My finace is Egyptian but currently working in Saudi Arabia. I know KSA has strict laws concerning women traveling alone, I'm curious if anyone has any information on this or if they have traveled to KSA without a male relative. I would like to join my finace for his interview but I'm not sure if I can get a visa to come or if I will have a difficult time while I am there since we are not married and I would be traveling alone.

    Thanks all

  3. HAPPY THURSDAY MENA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How goes things in CASA UmSqueaky? Are you able to use a fully automatic washing machine like here in USA or a semi? Them things drive me bonkers.

Here in Bubbaville I am enjoying a beautiful spring like day, windows are open! Insha'Allah will be heading back to Amman for the summer and Ramadan.

Have great one where ever you are!!!!! HUGS!!!

  4. Well here is my 2 piasters worth. Yes, I would move to Jordan in a heartbeat. I have a 13 yr old and 14 yr old from from previous marriage and would bring them. Their school issue wouldn't be a problem. I think living in a foreign country would be good for them learn another culture and life there would make them slow down a bit. Since I already work for two companies based in Amman I am not worried about employment.

Would life be easy? Yes and No! But my personal and spiritual belief is we must make the best of our situation because God has allowed us to be there for some reason. What you have today can be gone tomorrow. I live pretty simple here in the states so the adjustment wouldn't be to great in a material sense.

So any country you move to in the MENA regions if you expect to live like an American expect to pay big American bucks for it! Honestly would you pay 10-12 USD for a box of Fruit Loops? If you are willing to live more like a local it can be done without a LOT of money within reason. Even private medical care is cheaper then US care in Jordan. Alhumdollah I do have a good family to go back to and know many American women living in Jordan and through their experience and help it has helped me learn more about the GOOD, BAD, UGLY, and really UGLY.

When I chose to be with Rami I knew what I was getting into having been to Jordan before I ever met him and I knew it met that I might have to move to Jordan. I realise not everyone is in my situation having sole custody of my children, working for a Jordan based company, and been exposed to Arabic language and culture for more then 1/2 of my life.

Either way I am grateful to all of you for sharing your experience and opinions it helps.

  5. thank you momof1, i'll tryt find direct airline sites as well :star:

I will say between flying through Amsterdam and Frankfurt I would fly Frankfurt again hands down. While Amsterdam has a hotel in the airport for long lay overs it was different and I liked it flying through but returning from Amman they took my bags off the plane for inspection and didn't come until a day after I came back to US. Frankfurt lots of muslims working at the airport feels different didn't have any "profiling" type experiences. I realize being Native American I can be stopped but there is nothing foreign about my name or its spelling. haha

OOPS I meant with my Native American coloring its easy for me to be mistaken for many nationalities. ARGH!!!

  6. Gaeliza,

The best revenge is to live and be better then him. I was married to a man from Irbid 6 yrs ago and it just didn't work out and now he is on the 2nd wife, but he had forgot to divorce me. HAHA so if she is from USA she will have surprise from the Amman Embassy. Jackie was an awesome support and since then I have found happiness from someone else. Just remember this painful time is just a short time in your life, not all or the rest of it. If you ever need to talk just send me a msg and will be happy to exchange numbers.

  7. Good Morning MENA insha'Allah all of you will have a wonderful day and hear good new. Jackie its good to see your hubby is back. Its 4am here and I should be sleeping but had to do conference call with boss in Amman. Still waiting for last documents so I can send our papers in UGH!!!!

  8. Batta,

It took us about three months to get our appointment, but that was for a different visa. Go to timelines here on vj and you will get a better idea.

As far as your packet, try calling the embassy and see if you can get a better response. If you are in Jordan, maybe they'll let you pick it up.

    Good Luck to you!!

Hey ladies, wishing you both the best of luck its been things on my end holding up to send in my application for my love, insha'Allah you both will have great success soon! But keep me posted I won't be far behind in one way or another. Plus I heard through the grapevine that lots of changes have occured in the embassy that makes things smoother in general for everyone!

    Hugs, Tam

  9. Hi,

We are finally getting ready to file our K-1 visa and we have NO pictures together I just realised. I was in Jordan for two weeks back in May and on my fifth day I got so sick with some Montezuma's revenge that we hardly left the house and forgot to get one. Any advice or suggestions? I have plane tickets, phone bills, a couple emails, etc... Plus insha'Allah I am planning to return at the beginning of the year and can do that then as well.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Tam

  10. Okay you could call me a Whack Job, but not that!!!! Now back on topic real quick. Tammy I sure hope this works out for you. I am on my second time per'se but I never filed papers on him and he never got a visa. I guess after I figured out he couldn't help for anything but always seemed to need money I told him. "you need to help pay for your fees, I am having a hard time" well he couldn't even do that so it ended.

So insha'Allah I won't have any complications. Rami and I met back in 2007 and we have been good friends since then. earlier this spring things started to change and I ended up going to Amman in May. I had a good time but on my 5th day there I got so sick and was really down for the next 9 days up until I left. I didn't get to go places or meet up with friends because I was sooooooooooo sick! But masha'Allah he took care of me got me medicine he thought would help, his sister brought meds from the hospital and nothing worked so then he boiled an herb called shee this is the only thing that helped me, so whenever I felt sick he would make this for me then stay by me until he was sure I was better.

So take your time with this young man and I agree if you can take the kids really see how they are with him, thats what I am planning to do later this year insha'Allah. I wish you the best, because we all deserve love, peace, and happiness with a partner.

  11. Hi just wanted some advice if possible from here. Rami just got an email for an interview with the UN in Amman JO and this potentially lead to a long term position. The job potential in the long run would mean he would be overseas for 3 months at a time back home 1 month and back out again.

Has anyone had similar circumstances with their partners work? I am just wondering how it might effect the process.

    Thanks

  12. Hi,

We are just now looking into the process if K1 and I have concerns on my I-134. I am a single mom of 3 beautiful children but do one childs disability for the past several years I have been living on SSI/child support out of need. Now my youngest child is now disabled and it looks like he will be on SSI. But the children are now older and am able to go on to school and once certified teach ESL classes and already have a teaching position lined up in the fall.

So what can I do when my finances have been minimal and below the standards. Because of the money I also discontinued use of banks a few years back because at the time I was getting dinged for anything. I have utility bills, rental aggreements to prove stability in terms of housing etc... But should I open an account? I can also supply letters from professionals explaining the necessity of being with my children in their younger ages. So I certainly don't expect my financial situation to be this way permenantly or long term and again will be returning back to work part-time in the fall as well as back to finish my degree. This is a MAJOR concern of possible denial.

So any one in similar financial position willing to share their experience or advice in general would be appreciated. I can get a co sponsor from my family easily if that would help. I hope I am not reinventing the wheel here. Thanks, Tam

You will need to show income in excess of the guidelines for yourself, your children and fiance. SSDI does count as income if you have the documentation but may not be enough. You may have to line up a co-sponsor. Past payments of bills, leases etc. are not generally considered. The consulate must determine your fiance will not become a public charge. They can decide what they need for this, but it sounds like you need a co-sponsor

Yes, the financial issues are all about whether the intending immigrant may become a public charge. Yours sounds like a case needing additional sponsorship.

    Hi Gary&Alla and Elmcitymaven,

Thanks for the advice and have a family member that do the co-sponoring part. I was just wondering if I need to show them more info. So I feel better about moving forward with everything. Hope all goes well with you both.
