  1. Hey guys,

I haven't been on here in ages. Congratulations to everyone for moving forward. What great Christmas presents! :)

I was wondering if anyone knows what Janus will need when he flies to America next wek with his visa? Does anyone know what he actually needs to bring with him when he is going through customs? Our lawyer for some reason said she can't give us a detailed list. Which means I think she doesn't know the answer.

Has anyone gone through this part of this process before?

He flies in on Monday the 14th then we get married New Years Eve!

Hope you are all doing very well.

    -Melody

  2. Everyone- thanks for the congrats. I'm exciting and exhausted at the same time. So much to do now, but all 'good' stress.

Richard, would love to meet up but I'm actually IN Denmark at the moment. I flew here at the last minute to be around during his visa interview, and I don't fly back to NYC till Sunday. Have fun at the wedding!

Missy, so sorry to hear about your dog. Trust he is in a better place.

Big thanks to everyone for your support during this last year.

    And many hugs,

    Melody

I'm sure I'll see y'all back on here when the adjustment of status process begins! :)

  3. Just wanted to let everyone know, Monday Janus got his visa. He went to the interview last Thursday, which consisted of only 2 minutes of questions, followed by an HOUR of them asking for forms, him finding the forms in the binder, and then handing the forms to them. Most of them time he was there he was either waiting, or handing them a form.

And then 3 days later they emaield him and said to pick up his passport with the sticker in it.

So that chapter is almost over (he still has to fly over in December, have the 'thing' at the airport, and then we get married New Years Eve). And then of course, we file for adjustment.

But all in all, an easy interview experience for him. Kind of annoying with the interview waiting time, ridiculously long and stressful with the application time, but we are very grateful that part is over.

Also, the day after his interview, his boss had a meeting with him to tell him: his company has agreed he can transfer to their office in San Francisco. So now I have to pack up my life in NYC and looks like we are moving to the West Coast!

So much is happening so very fast, after soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many months of waiting!!!! Ain't that life?!?!!

  4. That must be how they teach Danish men to be. Janus is the EXACT same way.... sooooo frustrating, but I love him so it's all good. :)

I sent you a reply on the denmark filers page, maybe I should just send you private messages from now on! :)

Well, I have our tracking number from DHL and I SAW the package going to Brazzaville, Congo. My heart stopped when I saw it. Plus, I called the embassy again and talked to someone that spoke english and it was very encouraging. I feel hopeful that we can get it all done and have him home by November 16th. Whew.....I'm exhausted by all of this.

One thing that has been a little unexpected.....I had thought that once I finished MY part of all of this, I would stop worrying about it all. I mean, Lars is an intelligent, mature, organized and focused man. He has an important job and has several degrees for goodness sake! WRONG - he's not nearly as organized as I am, he's not a worrier like I am....he's more of a "things will work out on their own" kind of guy. It's driving me crazy!

You guys have been my lifeline!! :luv::luv::luv:

  5. So they were friendly? They were willing to talk about interview dates before you got the NOA-2? Regardless, I'm happy to hear they seemed approachable...

I hope they will be friendly with us and be willing to give us an interview before December! Do you think they will? Until we get that date I am still so nervous!

I'm confused- why did you have to bother calling the embassy in Denmark about the interview date/time if you're to the Congo? I hope we will get a date soon, I am so ready to have all of this over with!

I really, really want to go over for the interview but I'm having to deal with the work schedule/wedding planning/packing up my apartment in nyc depending on where we are going to live (the options are nyc or san fran depending on his job situation too). So many questions still are unanswered!

Our file is at NVC right now, the whole embassy change request has held us up a little but expect things to be shipped out this week to Congo. We plan on getting married in November in Fairhope, Alabama - with my family. He will be back in the States in February and after that 21 days here, I'll return with him. I don't know how long I'll stay there but probably 3 months.

I'm getting excited but I bet you are SUPER excited. A lot to plan!! Will you go over for the interview? If Janus is like Lars, I had to do all of the calling and pushing but the Danes there were super nice and willing to work with us on the interview times, I wish we were still going through that embassy.

I did it before we changed embassy's. We didn't know what to do, exploring options.

  7. Thanks missy for the encouragement :)

I can't imagine it will take 3 months either. It seems like the Copenhagen office does not actually have ALOT of Danes who are trying to leave, do you know what I mean?

I got a message from someone else who filed through Denmark and they said after sending int he paper there was a one month span till their actual interview date. So I HOPE we will be okay!

How are you doing? Are you moving to Africa? If so, when? What is the latest with your application?

    Hope you are well!

As you know, we had to change our embassy but Lars and I both talked to Denmark before we decided to go with Congo and they were fairly easy to communicate with and I can't imagine that it will take 3 months! Let me know how it goes.
  8. We are sending in our paper tomorrow to schedule the interview. I just noticed on the K-1 packet it says that it may take up to 3 months for the interview to be scheduled.

I am wondering, has anyone else had to do this with the consulate in Copenhagen, and if so, how long did it take for your interview to be scheduled???

My wedding is planned for New Years Eve. We had BETTER get this interview for before then!!!!

I'm praying and crossing my fingers now...

  9. Hi everyone,

So Janus my fiance got his medical today with the consulate doctor in Copenhagen.

I just thought I"d share the experience:

Our lawyer suggestsed he go and get some vaccinations ahead of time to prepare so he wouldn't have to get a lot of shots all in one day.

So Janus paid a lot of money a few weeks ago to get several (painful) shots.

When he went in today, the doctor told him he didn't need to get those shots even though they were on the form the consulate sent. So that was a big waste of money.

Then he asked him some standard questions, Janus took a blood exam, the doctor checked his throat, ears, eyes, breathing, and that was it.

And then of course he had to get a few shots that he wasn't expecting (shots he had gotten as a child but the doctor said he needed them again that wasn't acceptable). So as a 36 year old man, he had to get the shot for the mumps again!

Anyways, all in all with the unneccesary vaccinations, everything cost @ $1,000.00 which is very, VERY frustrating for our wallets as I'm sure you can imagine.

So many unnecessary fees (over $200 for the blood to be taken?!). So unfair. Ridiculous.

But we have to suck it up and get over it. Ugh. I am grateful we have made it this far. Now he is going to try to schedule his interview soon.

hope everyone else is doing okay.

Oh, and he'll get his x-rays tomorrow.

  10. Anyone else have any thoughts? Should he tell them he's here for a job interview or just to see me?

    Thanks for your response!
The short answer is yes, your fiancé could visit and yes, it is possible he could be turned away (would really not have anything to do with the K-1 visa process being on-going though). (In most cases - there isn't a problem with the visit but best to prepare just in case.)

This gets asked fairly often so there is a page you could review, to prepare.

Frankly I think it has more to do with the ability of Danish nationals to get short term visas than any impact (positive or negative) on you K-1 process.

As long as he stays within the confines of the short term visit there should be no trouble.

    Best of luck

  12. Thanks. Yes we are aware of the EAD and adjustment of status. Praying he is in the line of a 'nice' customs officer!

We received our NOA2 a few weeks ago. My fiance has been asked to come to the US to interview with a company (so he could have a job when he moves here after we get married!). Will he be stopped at the border if he tries to come even though we haven't gotten the fiance visa yet? He is from Denmark so he usually comes with the visa waiver.

The bad thing is it's completely up to the customs officer. Just remember that he can not work legally until you adjust status and apply for an EAD, which can take up to 3 months or more. Good luck with the visit! :)

  13. I just realized how many spelling mistakes I had in that. I think because I feel so strongly you must meet before you marry. And I don't think i'm alone here. Sorry, but I think that is a really big deal. plus, why WOULDN'T you want to meet her right now, even if it is only on a tourist visa. Waiting for a visa approval at this point is another 6 months, can you really wait another 6 months before meeting (or touching!) your soul mate?

  14. A tried and true idea for you:

    MEET BEFORE YOU MARRY.

I've never met someone who got married who regretted meeting their fiance before they tied the knot :)

And to everyone else: GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all

I just registered here and are trying to find helpfull information for my case.

I found my soulmate through eharmony dating.

the problem is that i am in the UK and she is in the states.

I will see her in September for the first time but we both feel that we are meant together.

i was born in Germany then moved to the UK in 1974 and been there since.

My love wants me to stay forever, but i only go over with a visa waiver program.

    What should we do next.

Should we get married quickly to help with the processes or would that be a bad thing to do

has anyone got advice for us.

Plus to get the visa you have to show proof of relationship (and a lot of it) and while chats and emails may help, you really must show photos of you together. There are very few cases where they except 'not meeting' before approving the visa, and this is usually because of a person's cultural (India for example they sometimes do not meet before they marry).

So more advice: Built your relationship, and not just for the 'proof', but for you guys to actually let your relationship GROW into what it should be.

  15. I got a touch this morning - touch me in the morning.................

Last few touches reported here ended up with less than great results. Here's hoping my "whatchamacallit" (don't remember either, Missy) is in the works.

Stan what do you mean the last touches reported ended up with 'less than great results'? I thought it was just that one couple who was denied.

I got a touch July 28th, and nothing has happened, but I just thought, well it's still processing.

Now you've really got me freaked out!

  16. That is so funny. I wonder if I would have recognised you on the plane from your pic. I totally would have approached you!

I would have loved to get together while I was over there, but I was actually not in copenhagen a lot. Janus insisted we take a vacation (his company shuts down every year for 3 weeks summer holiday, those Europeans are so smart/luckky!) because we were both so ridiculously stressed out about the visa, so he 'dragged' me on a 8 day road trip through Tuscany. It was INCREDIBLE. We decided that may have been our honeymoon since we're not sure if we'll get to take one after we get married bc of work schedules, etc. And it wasnt that expensive because tourism overseas is having an awful summer. Nice for us though :)

And then my family also was in Denmark for almost 2 weeks to meet his family.

So even though I was over there 5 weeks, we were busy the whole time.

Plus I read you were sick, so seems you were busy too. Glad to hear you are feeling better! :)

Missy so weird, I flew back from Copenhagen to American yesterday too. What airline/flight were you on? I was on the 12:20 SAS flight to Newark...

Hey everyone!!! Lots of March approvals!! I'm back in Jackson, sure did miss ya'll!

Missy! I (for one) missed you!

How are you feeling? all better? tell us about your trip, please? :)

I am feeling fine, just tired from the travel yesterday. The trip, even with a week's stay in the hospital in Helsingor, was an absolute dream. It is really funny, I hadn't seen Lars since January but the minute we were together again, it felt like we had never been apart. I love that feeling.....being complete and happy.

Anyway....the last few days in Copenhagen were just beautiful. This is the best time of the year to go, the weather was perfect, lots of good food and a lot of love and attention from all of the family.

The hospital stay - if I was going to get sick in Europe, in my opinion, Denmark is probably the best place to do it. The medical care was on a par with what I could get here, possibly a little bit better (once we got started).

Helsingor is a beautiful city - Hamlet's Castle is there and we took the ferry to Helsingborg, Sweden and walked around there some. We used to live near Helsingborg so it was kind of like going home for us! We rode bikes and took a day trip to Fehmarn, Germany - a tiny island between Germany and Denmark. It used to be Danish and my grandmother is from there. That was great. We also too a day trip to another small island in Denmark....Mon (I am not sure about the spelling, I think I need some special danish letter in there). We saw the white cliffs there, ate great food and walked aroud Liselund Gardens.

I wish I could have brought Lars home with me but.....he is now in Nice, France for two weeks and then he leaves for Brazzaville, Congo on the 22nd of August.

I am glad to be home, ready for the NOA2!! I really did miss all you guys, seriously!

OMG - I was supposed to be on that flight but we decided it was too long to get from Newark to Jackson as I would have to go through Houston and then Jackson so we rebooked me on Delta 69, straight from CPH to Atlanta and then a flight to Jackson. We got to the airport at 9:30 for my 11:30 flight and the line at passport control was so long, I stood in line almost an hour!

I thought about you a few times when I was there, wondering when you were coming back home!

And, yes Richard, I giggled when I typed "69" - couldn't help it!

  17. Missy so weird, I flew back from Copenhagen to American yesterday too. What airline/flight were you on? I was on the 12:20 SAS flight to Newark...

  18. I have no idea. That's just what my lawyer said. She said after you get NOA-2 they will give you trouble.

My lawyer says they will not be allowed into America after you get the NOA-2, they will only be allowed in after you get the visa stamp in the passport.

Smarter people than me will have to respond... I do know that the Embassy will cancel your current b1/b2 visa when they approve you for the K1. I don't see why someone would not be allowed to enter (other than the basic normal risks of entry) just because one has a NOA2. I mean, they do allow people in when there is a petition for a K1... so why wouldn't they after a NOA2?
