Guess what?! I got approved!! Finally, after almost a year of agony, I received the long-awaited letter today.

The letter's date of decision was 05/12/09, the same date that the senator contacted CSC. I hope this helps anyone who's in the same situation as me.

I've always envied all the people here who were approved and it's still not sinking in that I am experiencing this ecstasy of getting approved!

I called 304-625-5590 today and they said that they already finished my background check in July 2008. I got my fingerprinting done last July. They also said that they received so many calls like mine previously. Does anyone know how long I have to wait? I have no idea about "background investigation."

I filed on Jun,2008 to VSC and was transfered on 2/11 to CSC. I have been waiting almost a year so I contacted to the Senator on Apr.10 and got a letter today.

Here is the letter from the senator's office.

"I am writing in response to your letter requesting Senator ********'s assistance in determining the status of your Form I-751 application to remove conditional permanent resident alien status. I contacted the USCIS CSC and was advised that the processing of the applicatiion has been delayed as the required background investigation remains open. Until the background investigation is completed, the USCIS CSC cannot issue a final decision. These background checks are required to be completed on applicant who apply for an immigration benefit. Thank you for contacting Senator *******'s office."

Why was the background check delayed? My background is clean; I have not received even a speeding ticket. My opinion is that they found my file among the dust after the senator contacted them and are making an excuse. But I might be wrong ....... but do you have any idea as to how long the background check might take? Do you think they will require a REF or an interview?

I am sorry, but this sounds like a bunch of BS. The background check (fingerprint) results are usually returned to USCIS from the FBI within 48 hours or less. If they meant "name check", then they are also full of it and do not know what they are talking about, because there are no FBI name checks for I-751. Also, there is a phone number here on this forum where you can contact the FBI in washington DC and they will tell you when your background check was returned to USCIS. I tried it and it worked. I just dont have it handy right now, maybe another member on this forum can provide it??

How should I call INS? I already called 800 number and they said it is pending. Can I call INS directly? which one Vermont or California?

I filed Jun.04.08 to Vermont and got transfered Feb.11.09 to California. I haven't gotten any letter yet so I am extremely stressed every day.

Here is my situation and I need to get your advice.

I came to USA with my two daughters in 2000 because I got divorce my first marriage and I wanted get a better opportunity for my children.I enrolled in an under-graduated school again in order to get a job for my future in USA. When I studied, I met my husband and because we were the only ones in a similar generation, we became close quickly. In June 2005, we got married, and I spent all of my and my parents' money for our marriage because my husband had nothing. He had a mental problem and was an alcoholic. In Jun 2008, I filed for I-751 jointly with him because I still wanted to make our marriage work. However, he constantly treated my children horribly and never acted as a step-father toward them. Near the end of February 2009, my daughters and I couldn't take his violent outbursts anymore and I filed a divorce and a restraining order. Because he was an unstable man and disregarded the restraining order, the town police arrived and arrested him, and gave us a protective order. In the middle of March, my lawyer sent the file to court and said it would take six months.

Right now, it is extremely hard for me to pay for the mortgage and my house I put up for sale is not selling. But now since I'm waiting for my GC, it is even more stressful. I don't know if INS is not approving me because they are aware of my situation or if it's taking longer because I have kids. I have no idea what to do because I haven't received any letter and I would really appreciate any advice you have for me.

-joint tax return (3years)

-wrranty deed (me and mother-in-law)

-2 credit cards document

-joint family health and dental insurance

-joint auto insurance

-2 letters (mother-in-law and his aunt)

-IRS letter (to both name)

-DMV tax bill

-marriage license

-permanent resident card (copy)

-transcript of two daughters

Thank you so much everyone. I called the 1-800 number and talked to a person. He told me that if I didn't receive the letter before my extension letter expired before 30 days, I should call Infopass. That was the only thing he said he could tell me. Still, thanks everyone and keep hope!

I have been anxiously waiting for the mail for over two weeks but I still have not received anything. As you all know, waiting is unbearably painful. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who is in the same situation.

Second, all people that were transferred from VSC to CSC on 2/11/09 that got approved, they never received e-mail, they all got snail mail and that envelope address said "Vermont". Just when I thought wannabe_texan was the last one in that 2/11/09 group, now there is you newbie totoro. Well... I suggest you can call the 1800 number to check the status, it doesn't hurt to try and better than painfully waiting/"hang dry". May be they mailed out the approval letter but just haven't reach your mail box yet, so why don't you try calling USCIS, may be there is good new waiting for you.

I have been anxiously waiting for the mail for over two weeks but I still have not received anything. As you all know, waiting is unbearably painful. Hi, I'm in the same situation. My RD is June 23. Seeing everybody got the reply from USCIS and I didn't receive anything yet is very painful. Hope we will have a good news this week.
