  1. Hi,

I know as a LPR of the US I have to report all worldwide income on my IRS Tax return. Money was skimmed of of each check by the Canadian Government so I assume the I have paid all taxes due north of the border. My question is will I get taxed again by the US or am I simply reporting this income to the IRS.

    Any guidance would be great!

  2. 20 days and counting. Well, 13 if I count from the 2nd production notice.

I think they're a bit slow due to the card change.

Not sure why you got two letters, I only got one.

Ya, that's what I was thinking to. Of course mine gets approved the day they change the card. Also, I only received one production notice. If the GC is like the EAD card I know the second notice means the card has been made. So, maybe I'll have to wait for that second notice before I obsess over the mail.

    Thanks

  3. Okay...just checking. There's another thread on here that has a guy's future in-laws being denied a visa for an 8 day trip for his wedding.....

Ya, I'm thinking that's because they aren't Canadian Citizens and therefore can't prove sufficient ties to Canada or their country of citizenship. As far as I know citizens of Canada and Bermuda can travel to the US for either 3 or 6 months without a visa. Ask someone in Florida have many retired Canadians stay there in the winter....

  4. My bad. I got a little ahead of myself. I would wait til you get home and click no just to save the confusion. BUT if you want to file while you're hear, the dates they need will be on the entry/return form you fill out when you clear US Customs. I was unaware that visas are required to visit between Canada and the US now. Things have changed since I moved from New York. :)

Canadians don't require visas to visit. We also don't have to fill out an arrival/departure record. The question is asking if they are living in the US on some other visa.

  5. Hi,

Just wanted to share what's going on here. I came to the US on a K1 in November and filed for AOS in January. I got an RFE shortly after for the I-693 - no big deal. Submitted the I-693, case trasferred, everything going smoothly. The other day I get another RFE (which no I know was for missing medical info). The RFE states they do not have any medical info about other than the I-693 vaccination report. Weird, right? Not really! The morons at the POE refused to take my K1 package in the seal envelope stating I need to keep that for my interview. Guess where my medical info including the DOS medical form form need to process my AOS are? Right in front of me. They have been in the seal envelope in my night stand for 5 months. This is great! Now I have to go to Chicago to submit the envelope in order to get my case back on track. I really hope that I only have to submit the envelope and not have to do another medical at my expense due to their error at the POE.

I have an Infopass Appt. on Monday and I hoping that they not only fix this error but get my case processed ASAP.

You pay all of this money and put your trust in this system and then have them screw with my life because someone didn't do their job right.

Hopefully this is a minor bump in the road and I will have the GC soon!

  6. Hi,

I came to the US on a K1 visa in Nov 2009 and applied for AOS in 01/2010. I just received an RFE (not sure for what yet), but I just remembered something - they never opened my package at the POE. Is that normal? I was told at the embassy that the officer at the POE would open the package and or keep it and I assume send it off some place. Do you think this recent RFE due to the fact they're missing some info from that package (the medical) that wasn't forwarded on. I have the package here, sealed as is was when I received it. Hmmm...

    Thanks

  7. I disagree. I don't think your case was sent back. Did you get the original transfer notice about a week before this one? Figure it takes about 5-7 for California to get you AOS package then they scan it in on their end and it generates the email posted above. Also, check where it says status on the newest email, does it say: Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred. Your case is now pending to the office that it was transferred to (California).

I have got the same emails as you and mine is still in CA.

    Don't worry!

  8. Hi,

I'm totally freaking out. I receive an RFE text message from the USCIS today. My case was transferred to the CSC on 03/02 and it's been touched about 4 times since then. We got another RFE about 3 weeks after we filled due to the medical as well. I have no idea what it could be. I was expecting my case to be completed by now. You'd think after the numerous touches my case has received I would have got an RGFE much sooner. Not right at the end. What the hell have they been doing for the last 4 months? This sucks....I'm so sick of this. :(

  10. HI,

I moved to the US in November and enrolled in EI. I have been sending cards back and I am completely up to date. I recently received my EAD and thought that my EI payments would be back dated to when I arrived in the US. She told me that they will only pay out from the start date on my EAD and not from when in enrolled in EI. So it seems as if I will only get paid weekly starting now and get nothing for the 3 months I wasn't able to work. Can someone clarify for me?

  11. I just want to add that if you actually tried to close your account in the US because youre moving to another country where there is no coverage for that company, they dont even penalize you. (ie. I got out of Tmobile bec they dont have coverage in Toronto)

Rogers doesnt even care if they dont have coverage in the US. They still make you fork over the termination fee :P

Ya, I heard that from Rogers too. The charged me. Have the got the money? No.

  12. USC hubby and I don't drink anyways. No advantage for us here.

Don't live in the east so the price differential don't benefit us.

I can see the advantage of the US over Canada here, but not enough to label Canada as the Soviet Canuckistan.

I'm not sure how the prices of consumer goods, determined by PRIVATE companies, has anything to do with the Canadian government having our best interest in mind? Please do explain.

Cell phone companies are regulated by the government. The insane taxes put on alcohol are set by, you got it, the government. The price of beer is the price of beer...its the taxes that double the cost. Private companies are free to charge what ever they want, and if the Canadian people think paying twice as much for the same thing is fair then I guess we the people are the MORONS.

  13. Is that any worse than paying taxes for roads to be repaired that you don't use or for schools to be built that your kids won't attend? :)

The only thing that annoyed me while my wife was in Canada was having to go to a LCBO or Beer Store and get there a lot earlier than 2am if I wanted anything?

That's the worst. No beer after 9 or 10 pm. Just crazy haha

  14. Lol Just wait till there's a gap in your health insurance and a testicle falls out or something, you'll be wishing you were paying more for beer haha

True, but in a way it's better than paying for your brain transplant with a my taxes.
