  1. I did had to contact him 3 times total... ZERO help from them... def wont be voting for him if he runs again... I contact our other senator also and never even got a reply... so sadly florida sucks where senators are conserded.. It was more helpful to email vermont.. and ombudsman... goodluck!

Exact same experience I had with Bill Nelson - a huge zero even after contacting his office on numerous occasions. Mel Martinez (whom I thought might also ne able to help as he himself is an immigrant from Cuba) was the other Florida Senator and while his office did respond (since I darkened their door in person with a visit) it was a complete and total waste of time. Sorry to the original poster but you will get more results by contacting the Department of State who will at least answer procedural questions. If you are in Florida like I am, then you will get no help from your Senators. Sorry.

  2. There is now a new issue using the contact list for making international telephone calls on an Iphone.

Old version (version 1.2)- set up international contacts with phone number including 2 digit country code. Set up US contacts with US area code.

Make call by selecting a contact. If you select an international contact, call would go through as noted in the phone number with Country code. If you select a US contact (determined by area code) SKYPE would automatically insert a +1 before the call and call would go through.

New version (version 1.3)- set up international contacts with phone number including country code. Set up US contacts with US area code.

Make call by selecting a contact. If you select an international contact, call will NO LONGER GO THROUGH based on the phone number with Country code as a +1 is now AUTOMATICALLY INSERTED before the calling number. If you select a US contact (determined by area code) SKYPE would automatically insert a +1 before the call and call will go through as before (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Has anyone found a way to fix this? It is a pain to hand dial International phone numbers.

  3. I agree with the above poster. I am not going to be in the USA (If I pass!) until late 2009. There is no way they can do it in a few weeks. Even with Lawyers.

I love my lawyers to bits and they have sped up the process, but if your lawyers are saying it will take "weeks" I would double check who you are hiring.

I am actually in Bristol too and had my application received on May19th. And they told me I will not hear anything before October.

    What about if it's expedited?

    Expedited for what reason?

There has to be reason for USCIS to process an expedite.

Now you have got me confused... Why would my case me expedited? And just to clarify that means sped up right? It will be my bad luck causing it not to speed up I guarantee.

And what are the USCIS reasons to process and Expedite??

Sorry for all the questions I am new to this and not to good with law (Med student!) so I am having a huge difficulty understanding things... I hired immigration lawyers to help because doing it on my own would be awful, and now I am glad I did  ..

Don't be confused, I think they were just saying that the only way it could be faster was if it was expedited, but that is really hard to get. Usually reserved for military personnel who are put on active duty, so you didn't miss anything. I'm in med school too, but luckily we did all this before I started. No idea how you are doing it while in school! Yuck!

Put your papers in a Visa microwave and turn it up to HIGH and they will be done much faster

  4. I work for a company that lists me as a independent contractor. When I called them and asked if they would write me a letter saying that I work for them they said they can't do that... I've worked for them for over 2 years and can submit 2 years of tax returns with Schedule C, bimonthly invoice statements and bank statements as proof of steady income. Will that be enough evidence?

    Here's what I'd do

Since you are your "own" employer. Design some letterhead and mimic the standard employment letter and attach your tax documents to it.

    YOUR LETTERHEAD

    To whom it may concern,

This will show that during the past 2 years John Smith Consulting Services has provided the services of John Smith to the ABC Corporation on a (pick one - full time or part time) basis. John Smith provides (brief description e.g. if you are a consultant put "Consulting" if you are a trainer put "Training") services.

During the 2007calendar year (Jan 1 through December 31) ABC Corporation paid John Smith $10,000 (see attached form 1099)

During the 2008 calendar year (Jan 1 through December 31) ABC Corporation paid John Smith $10,000 (see attached form 1099)

John Smith Consulting Services currently has a contract with ABC Corporation to provide services for the 2009 calendar year and the prospects for continuation of this contract are excellent.

Should you have any question please contact me at (xxx)xxx-xxxx

    Sincerely,

    John Smith Consulting Services

  5. I would prefer she wait, but she's a little ticked that I missed the one piece of info and I guess, rightfully so. The plane tickets are purchased, but I'd pay the difference to change the date no problem. I've got about 24 hours to help change her mind...

Hey, if you want to risk it due to a trip that can wait --- more power to you.

No offense, but if she can't hang in there for a few more weeks until this is resolved and wants to take the BIG RISK of not being able to re-enter the USA for 5 years because she doesn't have the patience to wait a couple more weeks for the most important process in your marriage to get resolved THEN tell her to have a nice trip and you will see her in 5 or 6 years (assuming you haven't found someone else who is more sensible in the mean time!)

Seriously, if you can't get her to change her mind about this then she is basically saying "my need to resolve my homesickness IMMEDIATELY is more important than my commitment of marriage to my husband". If that's what she REALLY means (and I don't think it is - I'm just trying to make a point here so you can show her this) then you must let her go, as apparently she really doesn't love you anymore.

Don't mean to be cruel, but just tellin' it like it is. Hope she comes to her senses soon! Take her to a nice dinner in Chinatown, assuming she does!

Good luck to both of you!

  6. To continue with my question, I finally received something from USCIS after requesting for my status numerous times. It was a very unpleasant letter. According to USCIS, they are still investigating my background~! I was speechless~!

What kind of background checks do they do??? I was aware that it's a part of the process (with FBI right?), but why is it taking so long? Are they checking my fiancee's one too or just me? Absolutely I do have a clean records without a doubt...

I actually got my US citizenship in the same year (2008) that I applied for this K-1 visa & I had no issues like this at all when they checked my background.

The worst thing is that if I do not hear from USCIS within 6 mos. then I need to check back with them after 6 mos. later. What kind of a response is this? How long do I have to wait then?

Can this be happened to anyone, anytime or am I just be the unlucky one?

As an alternative options, can my fiancee come to the US with a tourist visa while our case is in pending so that she can stay here with me until it gets approved? Or If she can come, can we just get married here?

Can anyone answer my questions? I'm so frustrated & hopeless...

Any comments and/or answers will be greatly appreciated....

    Thank you

First off - congrats on becoming a citizen!

Secondly - Try to remain calm and don't do anything stupid.

If you have filed a K-1 and she comes here on a tourist VISA you can get married BUT you will have committed VISA Fraud and she cannot stay in the country and worse may be banned for 5 years. Also a K-1 is for a fiance so the K-1 process would be voided and you would need to start over with a K-2 Visa.

You should contact your US senator for assistance in speeding up your background check and provide dates and details to assist his/her office in investigating your case.

  7. im really more freaking out over how behind they are, i dont expect to get approved anytime soon, i do know it takes 5-6 months in average, but when it comes down to it, i just hope they wont be so behind that it ends up taking like a year....

and it seems to be getting worst each day...

I know the wait is a long one and there is nothing you can do to make the time go by any faster so I really feel for those who are waiting and waiting. I was upset too but more senior members told me to hang in there and my package would get processed. If it helps any, my patience was finally rewarded as I just got my NOA2 from Vermont (notified 3/27/09 and received document in the mail 4/4/09) and my NOA1 was in early December. Your patience will be rewarded too. Try to find other things to take your mind off your waiting (I know this is hard to do) and the time won't seem as long.

When I was a boy in elementary school, I used to stare at the clock waiting for school to end at 4 pm and the time seemed to move so slowly. Now that I have a job and am very busy at work I hardly notice the day passing. Hang in there and best of luck to you!~

  8. Does anyone have any experience with having their K-1 returned by the embassy to DHS/USCIS for vague reasons like "not clearly eligible" under 221(g)? We showed up for what were told would be an interview with the consul (following our interview last month, after which we were told 'administrative processing' was required), but instead of an interview, we were given a piece of paper saying our case was being sent back under 221(g). They do NOT want any documents; I think they just want to deny our application. (During the interview last month, the vice consul remarked "I've seen lots of older men with younger women but I've never seen an older woman with a younger man". I am three years and 1 month older than my fiance. Also she refused to literally accept our evidence of ongoing relationship; we had photos from multiple visits, letters, emails, chat transcripts, phone bills.) If I understand correctly, our application could die a slow death waiting to be processed, in which case we'll never have a chance to present evidence to a rational human. I tried emailing the consul to ask her to take a look at our file before the diplomatic pouch is picked up but she only responds that I should contact DHS/USCIS. Some friends say I need a lawyer to fight this, others say a lawyer can't help, all we can do is wait. For possibly 2 years. Please, if you have any experience with this, please give an idea of what I should be doing.:unsure::unsure:

Don't dispair - Maybe this helps - I looked up 221(g) on the internet and got this (sorry you need to go to the link and scroll down until you find the term 221(g).

    Go here - http://www.***removed***/visas/refusal.html

It says that you are missing some document or piece of information.

    (1) Do you have a checklist of forms needed/required and can you check your copy against that and see if you are missing something?

    (2) If not is it possible that the embassy lost one (or more) of your forms?

    (3) Can you find out what is missing?

    (4) Can you get them a copy or supply the missing information?

I'm sure your small age difference cannot be an issue. It must be some form that is missing or that the need further information on one aspect.

    Good luck!
