  1. I mailed out mine today, 8/4, to California service center. Please help me add to the list.

My temporary card will expire on 9/17 and I was just told yesterday that I will have to take a two-week business trip overseas from 9/10 to 9/25. I just cross my fingers to pray that I will get the extension letter before my travel. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to receive the extension letter after you submit ROC package?

    Thank you so much!

  2. My mom married a US citizen in 2007 and filed her I-130 and I-485 forms by then. She has been waiting for so long to get it approved. She went to USCIS a couple of times before and was only told that the case was under investigation (background check). Finally, a couple of days ago, she received a letter from USCIS. It said:

"Please come to the office shown below at the time and place indicated in connection with an official matter.

    Office location: xxx

Data and time: April 8, 2010

    Ask for: Adjudication officer: #2

Reason for appointment: interview regarding your I-485 adjustment of status application

    Bring with you:

This notice, ID, and a list of required documents including: proof of cohabitation such as the co-mingling of assets and liabilities, employment letter, I-864 with all required evidence, etc."

There is a code at the end of the letter showing Form G-56.

Did anyone know what this interview is about? I am pretty sure this is not the normal I-485 interview because this is not written on a I-797C form. I also have questions listed below:

    1. Since the letter does not say that her husband, the US citizen, should come, is this an option that he can come or not come?

    2. If this interview goes well, will my mom get approved for her I-485 or will she have to go through the formal I-485 interview in the future?

    3. Is it possible that a stokes interview will happen during the interview?

My mom has been through a lot of difficult things these years. I really wish that she could get her green card with all the efforts we put in. Thank you so much for your help. I will keep you guys updated of the interview.

  3. Can anyone help me? I am confused...

I am working in US with a H1-B visa. My husband recently became a US citizen by naturalizaiton. I want to apply for green card through him. One of my friends told me that I don't need to file I-130 because "as spouse of US citizen, there is no visa number restriction". Is that correct?

Based on my research on this forum, my understanding is that I need to file I-130 and I-485, but don't need to file I-131 to obtain a AP because I am a H1-B visa holder and will file a I-485 to USCIS.
