This is just my opinion. If you can, first calm down, take a deep breath and assemble the package. It is better to send it complete and well organized than just quickly scramble a half completed package. After you send a well organized package, I think you will feel way better that you did that.
-
Tell your fiance that they cashed your check, which means they recieved your package and so far you are on the right track. You won't know anything for the next 3 to 4 months at least, so calm her down and talk with her about other things. That's what my fiance did, he just didn't talk about it for few months as there was nothing to say! Then he told me that he received a letter of approval and we were excited.

I moved last week from Vancouver, BC to Indianapolis, In. Just moved into our new home.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I am so happy for you too. I was too busy crossing, the border, getting married and moving to Indianapolis to congratulate earlier.
As I said the border crossing experience was very smooth, also I applied for SSN number today and the people everywhere are so nice. So enjoy each other, the worst is behind you.

Brad&Kim, thanks for sharing that. I had a terrible experience at the vancouver consulate. I was missing the i34 supporting evidence and was treated like a criminal. The lady was ruthless. I thought that I will never see my fiance again after the interview with her. Now the good part - because they kept your passport that means you are for sure getting the visa!!! Admin processing in the Vancouver consulate is very quick you will be on your way. I was put through the admin processing too, it just means that you are getting your visa a week later, that's all. I crossed the border yesterday and had a wonderful experience, the crossing guard even complimented me for being familiar with this whole process, and I barely said anything.

Trailmix you give such a great advice!
I wish, but I am moving next Tues and just got this silly old car repaired! So I'll take it with me, it costs a fortune to ship it too.
It better run when I get to Indianapolis ...
-
I am going to import my car next week.
I have the letter of compliance, registration and insurance papers. Anything else I need?

Congratulations! That's great news, you are on a roll.

Congratulations! Happy shopping. I'll try what you did.

Thank you for this useful info re dentist in the US.
I just had dental work done in Canada as I fear high prices in the US. I have a teacher's dental plan and have never heard of a cap, I am sure it's unlimited coverage. The plan pays for a monthly premium and then at the dentists it's 80% coverage for fillings, cleaning and root canals. 70% coverage for crowns. I also had a wisdom tooth pulled out (it's all up and grown), cost 100 dollars, 80% covered, so I paid 20 dollars for that.
I told them to keep me in the system as I might go back to Canada for a vacation and have cleaning done for 130$ and fillings for $100 in the future.

Thanks Damian! I went on the website. Once I get my SSN, I will apply for the Capitalone credit card. What I really liked about it is that you can even choose your own design.

Thanks for sharing that. What a great experience.

You will get your approval any day now. When you get no rfes nor touches, you'll probably find an noa2 letter in the mail.
One more thing, good for you for not giving into other people's pressure and waiting for your paper work to be finalized before choosing a wedding date. These people will not have to be losing their deposits if there are delays. Also, just tell them we are waiting for the visa. That's what I told everyone and they understood.
-
What a great experience! It went so smoothly for you. Congratulations. I love Montreal, it's where me and my fiance had our first date, it is such a romantic city.
-
I filed in Vancouver last September. It took us 5.5 months to get the visa.
The thing is if you get the visa too early, let's say in November, then you have exactly 6 months to use it. So that would be till May.
Now, as many others have said, take nothing in this for granted. I think you will save yourself a lot of stress if you at least wait for your noa2 to come in and then estimate the time. If everything goes smoothly you should get the visa within 2 months of your noa2 date.
We did what your mother in law suggested and it did work out but you just never know.
-
Congratulations! No interview, that is awesome.
-
We estimated. Once we got the noa2 on Dec 23, we estimated that I will get my visa in Feb/March and so we planned the wedding for May 30. We were blessed that it worked out that way.
What I would do is to wait till the visa is in you hand, you will save yourself tons of stress.
-
This might be completely irrelevant but the Vancouver consulate does their interviews way quicker, it took only a week or two weeks to get mine. I don't know if you could have an interview in Vancouver, it would cost you a lot more to pay for the flight but it would speed up everything.

Miss Becs,
I really feel for you. I think that you should get this process started as soon as you can. Waiting around will just get longer. My fiance and I got engaged in August of last year and we filed immediately and I received my visa in February - so there goes the wait. Time will go quicker than you think.
In the meantime I kept my teaching job and just kept teaching and making money which will be very much needed. You need something to do in the meantime- course work, job whatever just to keep your mind on something else. We both got webcams and we skype - that has helped tremendously. Also, planning a wedding made the time go faster. That way you are working toward a goal.
Last August I was so scared too, I thought how is this going to work out? Our wedding is this May, so soon and my fears have turned into excitement and joy.

I just received the k-1 visa in March. What others have said is so true. WAIT for the k-1 visa until you have it in your hands. Anything can happen! I did plan a wedding before receiving my visa and it was very stressful not knowing what was going to happen! It would have been a much happier wedding planning experience if I waited till I had the visa in my hand.
I did hand out the invitations when I had the visa in my hand. We estimated the time, and we were correct about that. But you have to have your priorities straight: visa first, wedding planning after.

Try skype webcam as others have suggested. It's a great way to connect with your fiancee!
Also aiming for 45 days is not realistic. We got ours in 3 months and I thought that was fast. Have all your paper work ready, especially proof of income.

Beau 79,
you were not denied. Just give them what they want. Get it in as quick as you can but don't panic. I was in the same situation, gave them the financial proof and was approved. My fiance and I went through incredible stress, so worried that I would not get the visa. Don't stress! Just focus on what you need to do - give them the 2008 tax return.
-
You won't be able to make it for 3:30 pm flight. You will get your results anywhere from 2:15 -3 pm. I live by the airport and it's more than 20 min from downtown. Also, the road you take to the airport is usually busy and you will encounter traffic (Granville street). So give yourself more time.

Very little. 3 visits one week each. One at his home, one week at my home and one week in a neutral city to meet. We feel comfortable with each other. We call each other on a webcam every day, so that helps a lot.
Did interview yesterday and denied!

Just give them what they ask for. There is no other way around this.
