  1. Hi all,

I had my AOS interview yesterday, 08/17/2009 at 1:30 PM, in Atlanta. My wife and I got there around 1:15 PM, went through the security scan in the first floor and were directed to the second floor. There we had to show our appointment letter at the counter where the lady, after verifying the letter, told us to wait in the AOS waiting room in the third floor. I thought we may have to wait for at least half an hour, as is usually the case, but my name was called in ten minutes. Our interviewer was a middle-aged black lady who seemed friendly. She led us the way to her room, and after asking us to raise our right hands and swear, made us sit down. She began by asking both of us for our IDs and passports. She then asked me my full name and DOB, aliases (if any). She asked my wife the same questions, asked her to verify her signature on the petition form, and then asked her how we met and how our relationship progressed. As my wife was narrating the story, the interviewer was jotting down points on the form. After that, she asked if we had any evidence of what my wife said. We said yes, we had tons of pictures as well as records of phone calls. She asked us to submit whatever we could. So we submitted a few photos, phone call records, copies of joint lease, joint bank account, credit cards, car insurance as well as flight itinerary and hotel booking details of our honeymoon. After that, she went thro all the Yes/No questions on the I-485 form to which, of course, I said No to all of them. Then she told us about the conditional nature of green card (as we were not married for 2 years) and that we had to apply 90 days prior to the expiry of 2 years to remove these conditions. She then congratulated us and said our card will be mailed to us in the next 60 days. WOOHOO, we did it!!! It was not even 2 PM by the time we got back to our car. I checked my case status today and it says my card will be mailed in 30 days. We are so happy now, thanks to the Almighty and thanks to all your help.

  2. Hi, all!

We have our interview scheduled for Aug 17th and today we find out that my wife (petitioner) does not have her original birth certificate, looks like it may have been misplaced somewhere. We have copies of the same as well as originals of all other documents (such as passport, marriage certificate, etc). However, the interview letter clearly says to bring originals as well as copies of all documents including birth certificate. Will this be an issue during the interview? Is there something I can do about this? I just wanted to know your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance!

  3. Hi VJ folks,

I have my AOS interview scheduled for 17th August, which is a bit earlier than I expected. I will be moving to a new apartment beginning Aug. 1st, so should I submit AR-11 and update my address with USCIS?

Also, I don't have a lot of evidence to prove our marriage. I was planning on bringing the following to the interview:

--Letter from my room-mate stating that my wife and I were living together in his apartment since the lease, as well as all utilities, are only in his name.

--Joint bank account statement (just one)

    --Joint credit card accounts (two)

    --Joint car insurance plan

--My wife's SSN as well as Driver's license showing our current address

--Photos (I can provide lots of them, with my as well as her family)

    --Phone call records

    --Copies of email correspondence.

Do you think this should be good enough? Please provide your insight as I am beginning to get nervous now:( Thanks!

  4. I have submitted my AOS applications (from H1B) last Friday. I will be travelling abroad in July (10th) and will return only on Aug 1st. Since there is a slight chance that I either receive my interview letter or have my interview scheduled during this period, i would like to know the procedure to request USCIS to reschedule my interview. Is there a specific form I need to fill out with supporting evidence or do I have to just reply back to them with feasible interview date(s)? Thanks in advance!

  5. Thanks for the reply! Yes, wife is the petitioner and I am the benefiicary, I might have been half asleep while I was typing that out:)

What are you adjusting FROM?? K-Visa, or some other visa like Work, Student, Visitors visa??

    Profile details PLEASE: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...rCP&CODE=01

    :time:http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=62950

The Immigrant is BENEFICIARY, sounds like Wife is Petitioner. If this is the case Wife files an I-864 as primary sponsor, and YES can use father as a Joint sponsor father files an I-864 as Joint sponsor.

  6. I will be filing form I-131 for advance parole concurrently with the applications, I-485 and I-130. For Part 7 question "On separate sheet(s) of paper, please explain how you qualify for an advance parole document and what circumstances warrant issuance of advance parole", what should/can I submit? Doesn't filing I-485 concurrently qualify me for an AP? Can I provide a copy of my air ticket as evidence of travel? Please reply...thanks!

  7. Thanks, YuAndDan, for the quick reply. I have a few more questions.

    1. My wife's passport still has her maiden name and we plan to get it changed only after returning from India. Will that be a problem, if we get called for an interview before her name in the passport is changed.

    2. If I provide my wife's actual address in all the forms, which happens to be different from my address, will my case become more difficult? I would appreciate a response from people with similar experience. Thanks!

  8. I am currently working on H1B in Atlanta, GA and got married to my US citizen gf yesterday (03/02/09) in Atlanta. My gf just finised school and

is living with her parents in Albany, NY. She will be moving to Atlanta only in Aug. 09 after our religious ceremony is conducted

in India (in July 09). Given the current economic condition, I have decided to apply for AOS right away rather than wait till Aug 09.

Now my concerns are as follows:

    1. Since my gf's last name changes to mine after marriage, what last name should she use on the forms, her maiden name or her married name?

    2. To prevent complications during the interview, we are thinking of giving my current Atlanta address for both of us. We have a joint bank

account in Atlanta, can this alone be used as proof of the fact that we are living together. Also, I don't have a lease associated with the

apartment I am living in currently; it is in my roommate's name and he has sublet a portion of the apartment to me.

    3. As I said, both of us will be flying to India in mid July. Suppose I don't get my AP before that, can I use my valid H1B to re-enter US?

I would appreciate it if somebody can help me answer these. Thanks!
