  1. Hi everyone, this is my first post in visa journey but I've been reading the forums here since my AOS process started around 4 months ago and you guys are very helpful with regards to immigration matters. Keep up the good work. Hopefully my post would help people who are waiting for their AOS interviews.

Our AOS interview was last February 11,2009 in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. We arrived at the office around 30 mintues before the scheduled time to me and my wife made a last minute checklist of what we had brought with us to our interview. We brought:

    1. the documents previously submitted for the AOS and EAD applications (passports, birth certs, EAD card, etc...)

    2. my SS card (just to be sure...)

    3. my state ID and my wife's DL (for ID at check in...)

    4. joint bank account

    5. joint health insurance cards

    6. joint car ownership registration certificate

    7. electric bill under my wife's name

    8. last 6 paychecks of my wife

    9. 1 thick photo album containing pics of us while we were classmates in medical school in the philippines, our boracay beach vacation photos, pics with my family and hers, the pics we have taken together here in the US since my arrival in 2007, and our wedding photos.

So after checking all the things, we went in the front entrance and checked in airport style ( remove all metal blings, belt, keys, etc...), gave our appointment letter to the lady in the window booth in the corner. We then waited in the waiting room nearby, plenty of people mostly couples too. We were called in 10:15 am (our appointed time was 10 am). A middle aged nice looking black american lady called us in. She first asked us where our lawyer was, since i applied thru an immigration lawyer for our AOS EAD and i-130 processes. WE said we could manage w/o our lawyer, she politely smiled and escorted us to the large room full of cubicles. We were asked to remain standing once we entered her office then we were sworn to tell the truth, we gladly said yes.

First, the IO gave us a waiver that we agree to hold the interview w/o our lawyer, me and my wife both signed the waiver and the interview started after she kept the waiver for my file. The IO asked for ID's, we gave her my state ID and my wife's DL. She then asked for my i-94 card and my passport, I gave it to her and examined it, the IO then ripped off the i-94 from my passport then proceeded with the questions:

    1. how and when did you meet your wife?

    2. what are your occupations?

    3. do both of your families know each other?

    4. asked me when do i plan to take my medical licensure exams

    5. what are our plans for the near future

The interview was very candid and the IO was very nice in making us feel relaxed, comfortable, and not be intimidated by the whole situation. The IO then asked me the routine yes or no questions found in the i-485 application form (are you a member of the communist, are you engaging in espionage, etc...) i answered all the questions with a truthful "No Ma'am". After that, she said to my wife, "your husband will be receiving a conditional green card since you two have been married less than 2 years by the time of this interview, and 90 days before his green card expires you must file for removal of conditions. Upon hearing this i was so happy i didnt remember what the IO said about in how many days will i be getting my green card hehehe. The IO then took a big stamper out of a drawer then stamped my passport with the i-551 stamp and wrote in big letters the word "cancelled" on my tourist visa. Then she took my passport and went to the back of the room to get it sealed and gave it back to me. Overall it was a very nice experience, I thank God for my AOS approval. God is really good. To those who will have their interview pretty soon, dont be nervous too much, just a little hehe as long as your marriage is bonafide and of good faith you will pass the interview. Thanks be to God, thanks USCIS and thanks VJ. More power!!!
