My husband and I had only been together twice before he went for his interview. He is from Nigeria but was in London when he had to go for his interview. He did tell me that he was sure the way he was able to answer the questions with good eye contact and the way he showed his confidence in the relationship we have was what made everything for us go so smoothly. I am sure if you ask your fiance how he answered his questions you will see that at some point something either happened or a question was asked that he may have not felt 100% with his answer and the person doing the interview could see that. Don't give up, stay strong and pray pray pray.. I promise it works..
Good Luck

It would be great if we could all afford a lawyer but some of us cannot..

Stay strong and focused. God will see you through every step even when you think your strength is gone. My husband and I just finished the DNA a couple months ago the girls had their interview today and now they say the medical we completed a couple months back is expired so they need a new one but I see the light at the end and it is the most beautiful light with two lovely little faces calling me mommy.
But when we started the entire process even for my husband we sent in wedding gown receipts, copy of engagement from newspaper. Send more evidence than what they even ask for it cannot hurt. Good Luck and God bless.

I am the step mother and petitioner for my two step daughters. We had the DNA completed months ago, everythig else was already approved and thought we had our final interview today. We received an e-mail that today March 6th would be the final interview with no mention that the medical exam had expired while we were waiting for the final interview to come. Why would they or why could they not have mentioned that in the e-mail they sent to us with the interview date. Now the girls have to go have another exam $350.00 more for something that was not our fault, another trip to the Embassy and then more wait time for the visa. Is it too much to be given a notice so that this could have all been taking care of before they went for the interview.. Would have saved all of us time and money...
So Disappointed!!

@popo.... The dna thing is becoming a permanent part of the process. I am putting on the shoes of ur step kids cos i am a step child under the ir2 category. I went for my first interview in december and got the 221g form. So about the timeline for the dna.... Currently i am preparing to go for my sample collection at the consulate in febuary. From that point onwards it might take a few weeks before the final interview. I hope i have been helpful.
Thanks for your note. We have completed the DNA and the results were delivered to the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria in Sept and we have a hope to be final interview in March. I pray everything goes smooth for you and wish you the best.

Wondering what happened with the DNA as I will have to go through that in Nigeria too. Are the kids here? Price of DNA test? Additional wait time? Thanks!
The DNA added about 6 more months on the wait time, most of that time is waiting for the U.S Embassy in Nigeria to give you a date for the interview once they have the DNA results back. The cost of the DNA depends on where you have the DNA completed and how many people are involved.

Thanks for the comments. I have done and sent everything that was mentioned, so the only other thing I can think of is to send proof that we have communication on a regular basis with the girls and that my husband and I have our bills, mortgage and etc together.
God Bless

I NEED SOME HELP UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT IS THE U.S. EMBASSY IS REALLY WANTING FROM ME AS FAR AS PROOF OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ME AND MY STEP-DAUGHTERS. I AM A U.S. CITIZEN MARRIED TO A NIGERIAN AND WE LIVE IN THE U.S. I AM THE ONE PETITIONING FOR THE GIRLS TO COME AND WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH ALL OF THE STEPS. MY HUSBAND AND THE GIRLS ALREADY HAD THEIR DNA COMPLETED AND ALL OF THE PAPERWORK THEY REQUESTED HAS BEEN TURNED IN. THE GIRLS LIVE IN NIGERIA WITH THEIR GRANDPARENTS AT THE PRESENT TIME AND ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO THE EMBASSY CALLED MY FATHER IN LAW AND SAID MAKE SURE WHEN YOU COME FOR THE FINAL INTERVIEW YOU BRING PROOF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GIRLS AND THEIR STEP-MOTHER. WHAT TYPE OF PROOF DO THEY WANT? I HAVE NOT BEEN TO NIGERIA YET TO SEE THEM FACE TO FACE BUT WE TALK EVERY WEEK ON THE PHONE TO EACH OTHER AND MOST IMPORTANT PF ALL MY HUSBAND HAS ALREADY PROVED HE IS THEIR FATHER WITH THE DNA.
GOD BLESS

I AM A U.S. CITIZEN AND MY STEP DAUGHTERS WERE SUPPOSE TO HAVE THEIR DNA SWAB TODAY AT THE U.S.EMBASSY IN NIGERIA, WE HAVE HAD THE APPOINTMENT FOR A MONTH OR MORE. WHEN MY FATHER IN LAW ARRIVED AT THE EMBASSY HE WAS TOLD THAT THE EMBASSY WAS CLOSED FOR A PUBLIC HOLIDAY. WHY WOULD WE NOT HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE OF A DATE CHANGE OR SOMETHING. MY FATHER IN LAW STATED THE PUBLIC HOLIDAY WAS JUST PUT INTO PLACE IT WAS NOT ALREADY SET PREVIOUSLY. ARE WE GOING TO WAIT FOR A NEW DATE OF IF HE SHOWS UP AT THE EMBASSY ON WEDNESDAY WITH THE GIRLS WILL THEY SEE THE GIRLS THEN AND DO THE DNA SWAB?

My husband's 2 yr green card is getting ready to expire so we are in the process of completeing the I-751. The question I am stuck on is Part 5 about listing all of your children. We both have children from other relationships, mine are U.S citizens and his girls have their interview to come to the U.S on September 9th to live with us. We did not file for them to follow, we had to file for them seperate. I read the instructions which states to complete if your children came into the U.S. on the same paperwork as my husband. Well they did not so we are taking it that we do not put any of our childrens information on this I-751.

The transition has brought so many mixed emotions for my husband. He left Nigeria to go to school in London, his family was going to follow. The love of his life (at that time) and mother of his children passed away right after leaving Nigeria. That as we all know made things for him very hard. His daughters in Nigeria were now with his parents and it is a very hard to travel back and forth while on the student visa and limited money to travel on as we all know it cost so much to fly back and forth. We met through a mutal friend and started a relationship, I flew back and forth to London while we were waiting on the visa for him to come to the U.S to be completed. Once he arrived here in the U.S. things were hard at first, he could not just start driving becasue he did not have a U.S. license yet. We live in the country so public transportaition means calling a cab or being dropped off somewhere. For me working full time and him setting home all day while I worked and he did not know anyone but my family and one other friend at the time. So the first months were tough. WOW once he was able to drive I had the life he drove me back and forth to work everyday just so he could have the car during the day until we could get another car. As for his traditional food I was willing to learn how to prepare whatever it was he wanted. His sister's helped me through it and now he also enjoys all types of food. We are currently in the process of bringing the girls here to live with us, they go for their interview on September 9th. PRAISE GOD we will finally have all of our family together, all of us together at last..
My girls + his girls=our girls, happiness and family..
Just a note***For those that are already here in the U.S. and are bringing your loved one over it is up to us to make the journey easier and happier.

You need to complete everything down to the area that states do not write below this line. When you go for the interview you will sign that area once asked. So complete everything to number 44.Hope this helps.. Even sign the signature line under number 35..
Good Luck

How old is your step-daughter? I am not sure how it is in her home country but here in the U.S. a child at a certain age can decide who to live with.

IF YOU CAN GET THE FRONT PAGE OF EACH BANK STATEMENT THAT HAS YOUR DEPOSIT INFORMATION ALONG WITH YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS AT LEAST WHAT I GET FROM MY BANK DOES.

WE FINALLY HAVE A INTERVIEW DATE FOR OUR DAUGHTERS IN NIGERIA...NOW CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE IS A FEE ONCE AT THE EMBASSY FOR THE VISA TO BE DELIVERED OR ANY OTHER HIDDEN FEES?
-
You should try to contact them via e-mail or phone just to clarify. I would say since she has sent the originals they would not expect her to bring more originals with her..
Good Luck and Best Wishes

So you are stating the case never went to the NVC? You need to get set up to do everything from here and appoint yourself as the one to handle everything. Make sure to sign up for all communication to take place by e-mail also. Why have you not pushed harder to find put what happened? For my case once the petition was approved it was sent to the NVC and they were the ones to send out the next set of request not the USCIS. Have you moved and not completed a change of address or anything that would have not allowed you to be getting the information?
-
Hi, my petition was approved and I received the letter a week ago. Now I'm starting to file I-485 and have a few questions.
1. Medical examination:
--Can I get this done before filing the 485 by a immigration approved doctor or do I have to wait for uscis to tell me to go to their doctor?
--I do not have vaccination records, how do I go about this issue?
2. Affidavit of support
--My USC wife currently is unemployed, can I ask any other family member to file an affidavit of support (i.e. my mother-in-law)?
3. Advance Parole
--my father back in my home country is not doing too well health wise. I would like to visit him just in case he goes, is it advisable to file this while 485 is pending? is it safe to do it? should I wait for the 485 to be approved before leaving the country?
Thanks in advance for the info
What is your status now?
1. Medical Exam--no you cannot do it now you must wait until you are sent the request to do it. From my understanding when you have no shot records you will be required to get a series of shots..Is it really a I-485 you are doing now, that is to change status or register as a permanent resident.
2. Affidavit--Sponsorship Requirements
A sponsor must be at least 18 years old and either an American citizen or a lawful permanent resident (LPR). The sponsor must also have a domicile (residence) in the United States.
3. I am not sure about this one..google to see what you get back on Advance Parole it is different depending on your status..

WE ARE JUST WAITING ON AN INTERVIEW DATE FOR MY STEP DAUGHTERS FROM THE U.S. EMBASSY IN NIGERIA, CAN THE PAPERWORK EXPIRE BEFORE THIS PROCESS IS ALL COMPLETE? I KNOW WE WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO DO DNA TESTING ALSO ONCE THEY GO FOR THE INTERVIEW AND THAT PROCESS IS A LONG PROCESS ALSO. WE STARTED THE PROCESS BACK IN NOVEMBER AND THE WAIT IS TOO MUCH TO HANDLE AT TIMES.
THE GIRLS BIRTH MOTHER HAS PASSED YEARS BACK AND THEIR FATHER IS ALREADY HERE IN THE U.S. THEIR GRANDPARENTS ARE TAKING CARE OF THEM FOR US AT THIS TIME UNTIL WE CAN GET THEM HERE. MY MOTHER AND FATHER IN LAW ARE UP IN AGE AND TAKING CARE OF THE GIRLS IS ALOT FOR THEM. MOST OF ALL MISSING THE GIRLS AS YOU ALL KNOW IS THE HARDEST TO DEAL WITH. WE KNOW GOD HAS HIS HANDS IN THIS PROCESS AND IT WILL HAPPEN OF COURSE NEVER AS FAST AS WE WOULD LIKE...

Our paperwork is complete at the NVC level and we are waiting on an interview date from the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria. Does anyone know how long this takes to get the interview date? Also wondering if we can go ahead and get DNA testing since everyone is stating it will be required so that we can be ahead of the request?
-
Last week I explained how the NVC lost my daughters birth certificate. Well today I was told that her paperwork is complete even though they have not found her birth cerificate she can take one to her interview when she goes. Has anyone else had this happen?
God is Good...

HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A REVIEW AT THE NVC FOR ANY LOST DOCUMENTS. I SENT BOTH OF MY STEP DAUGHTERS BIRTH CERTIFICATES IN THE SAME UPS ENVELOPE, EACH ONE HAD THE COVER LETTER ATTACHED TO THE TOP OF THEM. MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTERS CASE IS COMPLETE BUT MY OLDEST DAUGHTERS CASE STILL STATES IT IS WAITING FOR THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE. SO AFTER WEEKS OF CALLING AND BEING TOLD THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER I WAS FINALLY TOLD TODAY THAT THEY SHOULD START A REVIEW WITH A SUPERVISOR TO TRY AND LOCATE THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE.(ANOTHER 10 TO 15 DAYS OF LOST TIME) HAS ANYONE EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN AND HAVE A POSITIVE RESULT COME FROM THE REVIEW? THE LADY ON THE PHONE STATED OR YOU COULD SEND IN ANOTHER BIRTH CERTIFICATE...DOES SHE KNOW HOW HARD AND TIMELY IT IS TO GET ANOTHER BIRTH CERTIFICATE FROM NIGERIA!!!

I am confused on the fees we have paid and if there are more to come. I have paid for the Visa Appication and the AOS for my step daughters to come here from Nigeria. When I research information about the interview they will have at the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria it always talks about a $355.00 immigrant visa fee and a $45.00 security surcharge fee, is this really another payment we have to make or is this only if you have not paid the Visa Application fees?

I am a U.S. citizen married to a nigerian who has two daughters. I have petitioned for them to come to the U.S. to live with us. Their paperwork is almost complete at the National Vusa Center and we should have interview date very soon. Does the U.S Embassay in Nigeria always require DNA to be done and if so how long does that normally take?
General FAQ's for Removing Conditions
in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Posted
I need help truly understanding the process for removing conditions on my two step daughters. Everything you read is about removing conditions based off of a marriage. My step daughters came 3 years after my husband came and they are only 9 and 7 years old. Is there detailed informtaion somewhere that talks just about removing the conditions for children that came alone not with a parent?
So my question is can I just file one I-751 form for them together?
What type of evidence do I need to send with this and I am guessing that I still want to file 90 days before the exp date?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,
