  1. Hey guys,

My friend is getting ready to get married in Vietnam. He has all the documents from the US ready (affidavit of single status, vital records, bio sheets), however he didn't send it to the Vietnam consulate in DC to get it legalized. Where can he get it done in Ho Chi Minh City?

  2. Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I posted in this forum. I have a question for everyone. Will Provinces such as Phan Thiet accept the affidavit of single status from the US consulate in Vietnam during the marriage registration process? I was told that it only accepts the affidavit stamped in the US and the one at the consulate would be no good. Can someone please confirm this? thank you very much.

    Kevin

  3. Hey Jim,

I still occasionally lurk the forum. My wife received her citizenship in Jan 13. The journey is pretty much over for us. I come on sometime to see what the HCM consulate is up to. Is the Big Grill still around? I thought Ralph closed it

  4. Obtaining a marriage license also varies by province. When I got married in Ho Chi Minh City, we had to get a mental checkup. The whole marriage process takes about 3 weeks (from the time we submit the paperwork to the actual day we sign the marriage certificate). However, when my friend got married in Binh Thuan, he got the marriage certificate the same day. There were no mental checkup involved either. He just went to the cong an phuong and submit the paperwork in the morning. Came back later that afternoon and received the marriage certificate.

  5. Hi everyone,

Im in the process of filling out the N-400 for my wife. In part 10, question 4 (Since becoming a lawful permanant resident, have you ever failed to file a required Federal, State, or local tax return?) , what should I put down?

My wife does not work and Im still a college student. We never filed a tax return together. However, my mom do claim both of us as dependents on her tax return.

  6. hey guys, just checked the case status and this is what I saw:

"On June 12, 2012, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283."

Does that mean that it is finally approve? I sent in the RFE about a month ago

  7. Phoned USCIS and was told that it can take 60 days for them to respond to the RFE. My 1 year extension expires on 23rd Sep but I am going on vacation overseas with wife, daughter and in -laws 1 to 8 sep. I suppose that when I am coming back in, they can't say anything as I am still in date.

Risk it or go to e-pass?

What gets me is that we are made to feel guilty until we prove our innocence. They probably don't mean to, it's just how the process makes us all feel.

P.s. our 3rd wedding anniversary today and we are so happy. Life couldn't be better. Looking forward to applying for Citizenship.

Hang in there everyone else waiting, patience will be rewarded.

Yea, same here. I don't understand how proof of a wedding in the US with all our relatives do not show evidence of a marriage of good faith?

  8. they are asking things like birth certificate of children, lease with both our names, tax returns, joint bank accounts, joint credit card bills, insurance with the spouse as the beneficiary, affidavit of sworn statement from people that knows about our relationship.

Heres my situation. Im only 25 years old and still a student. I do not work and still live with my parents. My mom claim my spouse and I on her 2010 tax return. In the original package, I sent a copy of my mom's tax return with both our names in it as dependents. I also sent them our wedding photos in the US and a copy of the banquet bill. I also sent them pictures of our time together in the US. The RFE states that with the evidence I submitted, it does not show that we enter into a marriage of good faith. Here is what I am planning to submit in the RFE: Bank statement with both our names in it, credit cards with both our names in it. Bills of my spouse and I to show that we live at the same address, my mom's 2011 tax return showing both of us as her dependents, health insurance with both our names on it, a notarized letter from my mom stating that we live together at her house and does not pay rent, a notarized letter from a close friend stating he knows about our relationship since day one with photos to support, and lastly a report from the hospital stating my wife had an ectopic pregnancy in 2011. Do you guys think this is enough evidence? anymore suggestions?

P.S my wife does not have a driver license so there are no auto insurance policy with both our names,
