  1. So he can file and admit that he has been here for the last six years and not be penalized, correct? I understand that he will be affected by the ban from now on since turning 18 but the years before turning 18 do not count against him, right?

I don't think anybody could talk a student in his situation to go back and file at this point. It's a shame because I would hate for him to be affected by these bans and denied later. However, he is scheduled to graduate in seven or so months. I don't think anyone could force him to give that up at this time.

Thanks for your help. If anyone else knows of any ideas for these kiddos, let me know. Oh...what about the kids under 18. Is there anything they can do, or do they have to wait until the turn 18?

  2. So I used to be on this site for my own situation but am now divorced & not going through the stress anymore. I am now teaching in my hometown in Texas and we hava large number of kids in school that have no papers.

Recently, a student, who is now 18, asked me how he could obtain residency & then citizenship. He was brought here illegally by his parents when he was 12 years old. He has been here the entire time but is now "of age" so I don't know what the process would be for him.

Please let me know any info. that could help him get some sort of documentation to help him with college/work as he will be graduating this year.

I hope this is making sense right now as I am rushing as I write this before my next class of kiddos come in :)

    Thanks,

    Erin

  3. Thanks for the advice. And sorry for any confusion about my citizenship. I was born in Texas and am a US citizen. My Belizean husband and I do not have any children or property shared. So I was hoping this could be a fairly simple process as far as divorces go. I mainly was curious to know if anyone else has had to divorce their spouse from a foreign country and if they had no pending visas out, if they had to go back to the foreign country to complete the process or not? Does that sentence even make sense? :)....Sorry if not.

I will try to call the ph. # for the Belizean consulate in Houston and see what they say. Thanks for the info. If anyone else has any ideas or experience/advice, please let me know.

    Thanks so much!

    Erin

  4. Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice for the following situation:

I am a U.S. citizen living in Texas. I used to live in Belize, where I was married to a Belizean citizen in Dec. of 2006. Things are not going to work out between us and I need to get a divorce. First, I was wondering if my divorce is even legal here in the U.S.? I have never claimed it on anything here in the states. All I have is my marriage license from Belize City and it states my place of residence as down there.

Next, I'm wondering how to go about getting a divorce down there. I realize we need this divorce for his sake so he can get remarried in the future although I don't have much contact with him at all. And I may not easily be able to get a hold of him. That is mainly why I am wondering the legality of the marriage in Texas. Otherwise, as far as getting divorced, does anyone know if I have to be present in Belize or can I do it from Texas? Also, anybody have any idea on the timeframe or costs?

Just any general info. or experience from anyone would be great. I have researched online and am having major trouble finding anything on Belize. Any help offered will be appreciated!

    Thanks so much,

    Erin

  5. Okay...so here's a bit of a weird situation that my good friend is in and I told her that I would throw the scenario out to all my fellow VJ'ers because you guys are amazing with knowing all the in's and out's of this immigration process.

She married a guy in Central America and lived with him for awhile down there. Things turned out bad and she decided to come back home in the U.S. He ended up coming over the the U.S. without ever talking to her about it and just sort of showed up. He snuck in so he came across illegally. My friend does not want to be with him but he just won't go away. He's desperately trying to get her back and fix the relationship but she is just over it. So now, she doesn't know what to do. The local authorities don't do anything about illegal immigrants in our area and she doesn't know who else to turn to. Can you just call somebody up? I mean, people won't just come over and pay for someone to go back where they came from...right?

Anyways...if you have any questions, please ask and I'll try to get them answered if I don't know the answer already. I know a lot about their past but not everything. He's from Guatemala and she lives nearby me in South Texas. I'd love to pass along some better and more informed advice to her, so if you can help out...I know it would be appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch!

  6. Girl...listen to everyone here and go on your trip. Do not accept the answers he's telling you. Have you really not talked to him in 3 weeks?! I wish you both the very best and I will put you guys in my prayers.

Either way, please go see him and figure this out for yourself.

  7. Danny Bonaduce is completely crazy! He's overly dramatic and seems way too needy. Between his drug addictions and his mental problems...I would have ran a long time ago. I wish both of them the best of luck and I hope Danny moves on this time and just lets Gretchen have a life.

  8. Yes, even though when the incident took place, they didn't stamp anything in his passport and no papers were given to us...I'm pretty sure it's in the system as misrep because that's what the CO at the embassy in Belize said. He didn't tell us that a waiver wouldn't work for us but who really knows. Maybe they want you to spend the money and waste your time. He just told me to file for him (I-130) and then we will need a waiver. It sucks!!!! I will live with regret forever over this. I'm just waiting to get some money together and talk to Laurel Scott.

Thanks for all the advice. And just to clarify...I wasn't trying to say that I was for sure planning on having a baby and then keeping it separate from the father. I had just said that that may be the only thing that changes in our relationship over the next couple of years. I wouldn't get pregnant or have a child just to try and make our hardship letter look better. And if I do have a child and we don't have any luck with immigration...I will just continue to live in Belize.

  9. Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how you know if a consulate is accepting DCF again? I will be going through Belize and I don't see anything on their site but I'm pretty sure I heard they weren't (not from a very reliable source though). Do you know why some consulates are accepting DCF and some are not? I'd appreciate any clarification.

  10. Everytime I go on that site, it is sooooooooooo slow! It really does take a long time to work your way through the forums.

I also, would love for the waiver forum section to grow on VJ. I love VJ and have been around here for 2 1/2 years. But, unfortunately, other VJ members are not so nice to those that have broken any kind of immigration law and that makes people scared of telling their stories, I think. They don't want to ask a question and have someone tell them to get over it and they shouldn't have broken the law. I know all of our situations are different and we all need help in this area.

Maybe, other people in the waiver forum just don't belittle those that are here for more "illegal" reasons than yours and those that have nothing to do with needing a waiver should just not hang out in this forum. VJ is definitely the best and I just hope to see this section running a bit better than it is now.

    Best wishes to all!

  11. Hey girl...Congratulations on you progress! I hope all continues to go well.

I'm not sure the exact dates yet but I will for sure be back in Belize while you are there on vacation...so let me know if you guys come out to the cayes! We should hang out.

  12. I went to a state school myself: the University of Texas at Austin, one of the 'public Ivies'

Just wanted to give a shout out to one TexasEx from another!!!

 (And no, I'm not trying to give you the Aggies "thumbs up" but I couldn't find any horns!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONGHORNS! I'm class of 1997 myself...you?

Did you see the championship game in Jan 2006? Oh gawd...best day of my life after my wedding.:dance::dance:

    hookem.jpg

I graduated high school in '96 and then messed around for a few years...so I didn't graduate until 2003.

Absolutely I saw the Championship game of 2006. I was in Belize and went completely crazy watching the entire game. There are a few other Austinites on the island where I live and we all had the best time watching it!!!!
