  1. oldahmed,

I have to apologize, for some reason I called you "Lappa" who is a January filer in the Washington DC office.:wacko:

Anyways, I'm so happy for you that you finally got your oath letter. I've been waiting with you.

    Hey I didn't notice that :)

Thank you Stella. You've been of a great support. I hope you won't have to wait. Same day oath for you hopefuly ;)

    Hi oldahmed,

Congratulation again i hope today went well with the oath ceremony. Please when you get a chance post your experience i really want to know a few things to get ready for next weeks oath ceremony. Do i fill out and sign the questioner before i arrive or when i see an IO in the USCIS Fairfax VA office. What should i take with me to hand back to USCIS.. example: green card old and new, all docs. for traveling from USCIS, Work permit ID card and so on....

Also, shall i bring all my docs that i took for interview with me because my citizenship is based on marriage. For example marriage certificate, our kids birth certificate and so on......

Please state detail info on how the process for the oath ceremony?

Thank you again oldahmed for all your help, and i hope you can post your experience since my oath is on the 23th March.

    All the best

    Hi everyone,

Here is my experience with the oath ceremony:

    Appointment: March 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM.

I was there at 9:45, went through security checks (Camera and cellphones allowed). We were directed to the waiting room at the 1st level. At about 10:30 a lady came and spoke to us. She told us to make 3 lines and get the oath letter and the green card in hand (no other documents were required). The lines were organized according to the last 3 digits of the Alien number (A#) on the green card. I waited in line then when my turn came, I handed out my oath letter and green card to the officer, he searched for my citizenship certificate, he gave me a copy of it to check if the info are accurate, then asked me to sign it. He then gave me a white envelope where he wrote the number of my seat in the ceremony room. He directed me to another waiting area.

Another person came and took us up to the second floor to the ceremony room where we were seated by numbers. The guests and family members were seated at the back of the room. We waited there until everybody was seated while music and a documentary were played and we were given small American flags. The waiting was quite long (about 45min).

The ceremony started when an immigration officer explained to us what to do and what not to do with the citizenship certificate, then another person came (I think the head of the Immigration office or something like that), he gave a small speech, then they started calling people by name to hand them out the certificate. We were allowed to take pictures during and after the ceremony.

So, this is the whole experience.

Thank you oldahmed for posting your experience and good luck to you and your fiancee.

    all the best

  3. Yes, fingerprinting was done in Alexandria and my interview will be held in Fairfax. As I said, my biometrics letter had instructions about these issues, my interview letter doesn't. Even though they didn't even check for cell phones in Alexandria, just asked if you had one.

Hmm... maybe I should leave the camera at home. That way I will get to take the oath for sure. Isn't that how it usually goes when something is missing.

    Hi Stella08,

Yes, cell phones are allowed in Fairfax VA DO, and i had my cell on silent all the time. I took my camera and left it in the car just in case they gave same day oath which didn't happen so this time I'm taking my camera for my oath ceremony in a week which you are allowed to do if you are scheduled for an oath at Fairfax DO. I hope this helps

    Good luck

  4. Hi oldahmed,

I have very good news  (the best "LUCK" Friday 13th ever) my infopass helped a great deal. Yesterday morning (3/13/2009) i went to Fairfax VA USCIS Ofiice at 2675 Prosperity Ave.

When i arrived i talked to the IO and she told me that i should not have made an infopass because it has not been 90 days and i must wait 120 days. I told her that i have been waiting 5 weeks + and nothing came in the mail i just want to know what my status at this point because i have canceled may trips many times and put my life and family on hold waiting for the oath letter in the mail. She told me to write a letter to USCIS about my trip abroad and for sure they will get back to me. So for every question i had she had a negative answer and she just wanted to get rid of me fast.

Finally, a change of heart from the IO when i told her that i'm not asking for much but to find out what is going on and that the IO that interviewed me promised that i will receive my oath letter the next day or a week after i was approved/passed. She told me he should not have told you such promises and then she started to type something in her computer and her face change which jumped started my heart. Then she told me to wait a few minutes and took my A # and went to the back offices in the waiting area on the ground floor.

At this point i thought something bad was going to happen because of Friday the 13th. She came back after 3 minutes and told me that my oath letter has been sent out and i should get it in the mail in a few days. Then she told me that my oath ceremony is going to be at Fairfax VA DO USCIS office at 2675 Prosperity Ave on 3/23/2009. So i was happy and said thank you to her and the last thing she said to me was to come for the oath ceremony even if i don't get the oath letter in the mail. A few hours later in the afternoon my lawyer received my oath ceremony letter notification in the mail and i have not yet received anything in my mail. I'm not worried anymore because if i don't receive my letter i can take the lawyers copy and go for my oath or just show up.

I hope you get something oldahmed soon.

Good luck all and the end to my journey is near 10 days and counting

Thank you all for helping and i wish everyone the best of luck.

My congratulations to you. I have my good news too. I too received my oath letter. It's on March 20th. Actually I'm happy that I had to wait since my wife will be visiting me starting next week, so she can be with me at the oath ceremony.

    Congratulations to you oldahmed, :dance::dance:

I knew you will get something in the mail i guess the people who had an interview on Feb 4 are getting the oath letter in the mail now wooohooo.

So what do i need to take with for the oath ceremony? just the green and my ID's like Drivers license, foreign passport, SS card...... Please let me know on what to take with me. I just don't want to carry all the docs with me. Will they need more Docs to see just in case they as for them should i carry everything i had during the interview?

Anyone please share you oath ceremony experience.

Thank you and a week more to go for all of us to become USC :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

    Thank you.

You need to fill the back of the letter you received. I assume that if there is any change in your situation since the interview; took a trip abroad, got married, got a ticket, ... you need to provide evidence. In my case nothing has changed, and my citizenship is not based on marriage, so I'm bringing the appointment letter, my Green card, my passport, and my Id card. Since my appointment is before yours, I will give you more details after the 20th.

    Good luck every one.

    Hi oldahmed,

Thank you for all your help, and yes please tell me what happens and what to bring for the oath ceremony. My citizenship is based on marriage, and it will be helpful to get the right docs for the oath ceremony. My wife and children will come to my oath. Please please oldahmed let me know what happens after your oath ceremony on what to bring with me and what the process is and what must be done when you arrive for the oath. I greatly thank you for all your help and information you have provided.

Congratulations again and i wish you all the best :dance::thumbs:

  7. All the best to you and i wish you all the best of luck with everything :)

Thank you very much. My interview is after 2 p.m., so my hopes are very slim that I'll get to take the oath same day. :(

    Hi Stella08,

keep your hopes up because you will never know what the IO will do on that day and he might squeeze you in a slot after you pass the interview if they have places or give a next day oath ceremony. I know some people that had an interview at 3pm and did the oath same day at Fairfax VA. Don't be afraid to ask the IO questions about the oath ceremony if he/she tells you to expect the oath letter in the mail. I told the IO after i passed and got approved that i will be leaving soon with my family and need to take the oath ASAP.

So it took 37 days from the interview until i found out about the oath date and in total from interview till the actual oath it took 47 days.

You will do well and pass this and i hope you get the same day or next day oath

  8. Kookoo-FairfaxVA

Congratulations on your upcoming oath. So, I guess they didn't "save" all the applicants for the special ceremony, just made them wait for a later oath date. Maybe they are waiting for construction at the building to be finished?

    Thank you Stella,

They conduct oaths every day now: Oaths are taking place in the morning, afternoon and late afternoon and some same day. by the way it really depends if they have availability slots to give people same day oath. I was unlucky because the officer told me that they have no more slots available (space) to place me in that day for the oath and my interview was at 1pm. It really depends on the slots i think but many have said that if you have a morning interview 99% you will get the same day oath ceremony.

There will be oath ceremonies at Fairfax VA DO on : 3/20/2009 and 3/23/2009 i bet they have more and more everyday. Its not fair that people have to sacrifice their life and family and put everything on hold for an oath ceremonies because hey are waiting for construction at the building to be finished. I did see the construction the day of my interview but that didn't stop people taking the oath.

All the best to you and i wish you all the best of luck with everything :)

Hi oldahmed, I talked to my lawyer last week and he told me that USCIS are having THREE (3) oath ceremonies see below. Also, i did an Info pass for next week to see what they can tell me. If i hear more news i will let you know as soon as i can and my lawyer said they are doing very large oaths but they are still doing same day oath at Fairfax DO... So i hope we get something in the mail soon.

    1) There is a special oath ceremony each year at Mount Vernon. This year's ceremony is on the 18 May 2009. Mount Vernon will be the site of a special Immigration and Naturalization Service Ceremony, during which 50 individuals will officially receive American citizenship.

    http://www.mountvernon.org/calendar/index....vent/calID/139/

    2) Lincoln Memorial Rededication Series: Marian Anderson Tribute

The Lincoln Bicentennial celebration is on the 12th of April. They are evidently conducting a naturalization ceremony for over 200 new Americans that day.

Oh for number (3) Capitol Visitor Center on April 3, which can hold about 4000 people. i found another forum and this guy took his interview on Feb-17 and was approved then waited did Infopass in FairfaxVA DO on March 4th and they told him that his letter has been mailed out three days later on March 7th he got his oath letter dated for April 3rd in the Capitol Visitor Center.

This is what he wrote dated March 4th" I went to Fairfax INS office this morning. The information officer told me that i'm in queue for oath. She said i should receive oath letter this week, at the latest next week. She said they do oath once a week now. I don't get it. Anyway, i have to wait. No other choice. Anybody else wants to share your experience? Thanks." see web link below for forum:

"The Washington District Office advises that for at least the next several weeks it will be reducing the number of daily N-400 naturalization oath ceremonies conducted at USCIS Fairfax in anticipation of special ceremonies involving larger groups to be held at the Lincoln Memorial on April 12, and at the new Capitol Visitor Center on an as yet unspecified date. Regular daily ceremonies will continue to be conducted from time to time, although beneficiaries of approved N-400 applications may not be provided a date and time for their oath ceremony upon completion of their interview. USCIS Fairfax will continue to provide same-day oath ceremonies in special circumstances where N-400 applicants demonstrate reasonable need, and will be flexible in consideration of these cases. They will also continue to perform same day administrative ceremonies for Sec. 319(cool.gif cases, where the applicant resides abroad."

Any updates kookoo? I still didn't hear anything from them. Please, keep me posted.

    2) Lincoln Memorial Rededication Series: Marian Anderson Tribute

The Lincoln Bicentennial celebration is on the 12th of April. They are evidently conducting a naturalization ceremony for over 200 new Americans that day.

I guess this looks like a waiting game on who will get (to be chosen first) the oath letter. i just don't get it if USCIS have planned these special oath ceremony dates then why can't they send the oath letters to the people who got approved weeks ago?

Or these dates might be not true because they could be change anytime a friend told me.

  15. Hi manty,

Are you sure about this email from your friend?

Yes, I'm 99% sure. She is a lawyer who does nothing but immigration work in the DC area.

    Also, check out this page:

  17. Hi @ oldahmed,

This is my first time to join the forum and i think i have the same time line as you @ oldahmed.

I had my Interview on 2/4/2009 at 1pm Fairfax VA and was approved  (passed all the tests) and was told to wait for oath letter 2- 4 weeks in the mail. It has been nearly 3 weeks now. Please @ oldahmed if you get the oath letter and date let me know i'm getting very nervous.

On top of all this i had an old (10 year old DUI, i was not convicted and never saw a judge or anything of that matter) I had my lawyer with me in the interview and i didn't have much to present in the interview for the DUI because it was 10 years old i could not get a deposition from court because my record does not exist and DMV record is clean.

The IO said everything looks great Congratulations and you will take the oath in 2-4 weeks and he also said that he does not need any papers or certified docs. from court, police or DMV for the DUI. I only gave the IO what was left from 10 years ago which was the DUI arrest doc. and court date slip and the district attorney clerk receipt that i was given when i showed up in court. So i have no charges for the DUI, never saw a judge and i paid only $100 fine at the DMV for my license to be reinstated since it was only valid and restricted for 30 days after my arrest 10 years ago. My lawyer keeps telling me to just wait and you will get the oath soon.

I would greatly appreciate anyone's help or experience good luck everyone and i wish you all the best :help: .

I don't think that your DUI will cause any problem since the IO approved your application.

keep me informed about your situation please.

Hi oldahmed, thanks for the reply :)

Do you know anyone in the same DO FairfaxVA-Washington D.C . I have been looking at the forums and everyone that took the interview on or after Feb 4th 2009 was told to wait 2-4 weeks for the oath in the mail. During my interview the IO said that he does not know the schedule for the oath ceremony and he can't really give me a date but to wait for it to be mailed.

No, I don't know anybody else who had his interview the same day. I think we just have to wait.

Hi oldahmed, i found this forum called "Is Fairfax still conducting same day oaths?" and i just read a post from "manty" see below:
