The officer who approved our AOS interview said we would get our green card in mail in 2-3 weeks or may be faster! I read somewhere that for someone it just took 5 days!! Is this real?? Does it actually happen? what is the average number of days to get a green card as of now? Our interview was in Charlotte NC office...

We had our AOS interview approved yesterday and the officer gave a stamp on my passport ( I-551) that is valid til sep 2010...is this generally the case with everyone? does this mean that the stamp is valid for only one year but the green card we will get will be valid for the next two years? confused!

and how much time does it generally take for the green card to arrive in mail? We are dealing with the Charlotte Office!

the stamp is valid for one year... the card will come with a 2 yr or 10 yr expiry dependent on the age of your marriage at time of approval

I have my appointment scheduled for 26th of May and i still havent got my appointment letter from US consulate Mumbai...Has anyone the interview scheduled for may and not recieved appointment letter yet? how long should i wait? i hope and pray i dont have to pick it up from the Mumbai consulate...

i sent an email to the Mumbai consulate to reschedule my interview and it was on Friday, 13th March...it s been two working days...should i wait for some more time or should i call the consulate and check out.

Do they reschedule the interview appointment if we call the Mumbai consulate on 23637407 between 2 pm and 4 pm?

Again, is there any specific thing to be mentioned in the subject line in the email if we want to reschedule interview?

WHAT? that's horrible!! they better not make you pay so much for their mistake.....

if you have filed for K3 with a I-129F, they sure could hold your approved I-130 file at the records center. the purpose of the K3 to begin with was to get you a faster interview date while holding your I-130 petition. it would then be released when you would file for adjustment of status. looks like that has happened in your case. recently, they have started to approve both I-130 and I-129 together. but traditionally, they would approve I-129 first and send it to the embassy/consulate to get you a quick interview date. if the I-130 would be approved in the mean time they would hold it until you apply for AOS. you just have been unlucky that you were picked by them to follow their originally designed procedures. sorry to hear about your situation though and i hope all works out for you soon. good luck

oh my god! this is soooo bad!! so it s like they will release my file there after i get there on K3 first and file for adjustment of status?!! right? this is bad!!! i am soo very exhausted of this long procedure...as a matter of fact, both our files I130 and I129 got approved on the same day...

Hey queuedup! thanks...well as unfortunate as i am - we filed in March 2008 and got approved on dec 18th...but look at my bad luck...VSC sent our papers to some NRC instead of NVC and we were stuck for 3 long months...nothing was done...we used to call NVC but they always answered in as - wait for 90 days from approval and then call...it s frustrating...my husband wrote to a powerful congresswoman there and she helped us out as what could have happend to our file...it was through her that we could know our file never reached NVC...so as far as CR-1 is concerned..i have no hopes of getting it before July...and have no patience left either...so we both are really confused and would do the one that s faster, first!

kpspps - Hang in there. Well has your file reached NVC at this point? If so you can get through the NVC process in a matter of 2-3 weeks if you have all the paperwork ready. Finishing your case at NVC by the end of the first week of April will result in an interview in May. Even if you go the K-3 route, it is likely that your interview will be sometime in May at this point. Good Luck!!!

Hey! i dont think it has yet reached NVC but if it does this week...we can have hopes...right? soo how do we do things then? like do we have to deal with them through mail or emailing them papers is good...and do we have to submit them the original documents or the copies..that is before they can schedule an interview date for us?? this is something that s confusing me...please guide us for the shortcuts, like you know the timesaving stuff, if any! We were atlast happy on Dec 18, 2008, that our case got approved after 10 long months of waiting...and we were so enthusiastically prepared for the NVC procedure! But VSC instead of posting the papers to NVC sent them to some National Recording Center (NRC) - by mistake as they say...for 2+ months after approval we were not able to get any response for NVC (obviously) and we were just so confused as to what might have happened...My husband wrote atlast to some congresswoman there in US and she helped us out with this thing by finding out that our case never reached NVC, instead VSC sent it to some NRC!!! Now how can they do this to us?!!! i mean this is no small mistake...our three months were wasted! It has been more than an year now since we filed and do not even have my case reached NVC it s soo very painful! Thank god we also had I129...and that also has taken an year now...i think i would get a date for my K3 interview in somewhere around the end of may...

so what should we do? are there any chances of our case I130 getting completed before my K3 interview in end of may and if yes how?!! are there any chance of converting the K3 interview into an Ir1/CR1 interview?!!

To reschedule interview date is very simple, just e-mail mumbai consulate at MUMBAIIV@state.gov with your current interview date and case info, then request them to reschedule your interview date to the one you want. Mumbai consulate are pretty quick in rescheduling interview date. I did mine and got respons back in 2 days with new interview date.

No problem. First it was assigned to march 3rd but then I request them to reschedule my interview date from end of march to first week of april so they assigned march 30 now.

Hmm, it took only 4 days for us from the time packet 3 was sent to receiving an interview date.

Yes you could call the consulate again...

i too had the same experience with Mumbai consulate and i got to know about my interview date by calling the DOS at 202-663-1225. This worked for me! Thanks to Waithatter

i am again here with one more question... i have sent the packet 3 with the filled DS 230 and other papers and i sent it on 2nd of March! i emailed the US consulate Mumbai to ask if any interview date has been assigned to me and they said they will schedule my case in April for an interview in May! Is this normal? i mean i have heard that they schedule you immediately they have your papers!! and please let me know if there is anyother way i can find out about the interview dates if at all assigned.

That's there normal answer when it comes to assigning interview date but they usually assigned interview date within 1 or 2 week from the day they receive your packet 3. One other way to find out if your interview date has been assigned is by calling DOS at 202-663-1225 option 1 and option 0.

You can find the DS-156 at travel.state.gov, click on visas, and then click on Froms.

To find the DS-2001 go to the mumbai consulate website (just google mumbai consulate). go to the application/packets section, and you will be able to find the download link there.

If you are concerned about the timing of the interview you can hold off on submitting the documents for a little bit to ensure your interview is past your exam date. Or you can reschedule the interview, a number of people have done it, and received interview dates 1 month out from their original date.

i am not being able to find form DS 156 form... it s the Non immigrant visa application form...as you might know mine is a K3 file and in the packet 3 i recieved i have one of the items that is application forms DS156...so it s clear i have to carry it to the consulate at the time of the interview but i am not being able to find it on any of the websites...the one i found for a fiance visa which does not apply to me !!

Again, Waithatter has been a great help by listing out the items to send bacck in packet 3...

i have one more question... you have said to include form DS 2001...i havent recieved it packet 3...there is an applicant's statement at the end of the checklist but it deos not show anywhere on that form that it is DS 2001...if you could please help out with this...and how can i PM?!! how to do that - i have no idea

there is one more thing i am confused about... i am a student...i have yet to send back my forms after filling them out so that i can receive an appointment for interview...i am thinking of sending it on Monday...so of what date can i get an appointment...if anyone has a rough idea...because i am afraid the dates of my exams and the interview day probably will clash...what should i do? i have my exams starting in April second week and ending in May first week...i dont want to cancel any appointment date as i am told by many that they give us a date again which is worse than a previous date...like much late you know!!

should i fill out all forms by writing down that is would it be alright if it s handwritten?

what other documents or forms to include in the packet?

i read the guides but i would like you all to guide me and help me by providing a list of all items to be sent to the Mumbai consulate to get an appointment letter...

1. DS-230 Part 1 signed by beneficiary

2. DS-2001 Notification of Applicant Readiness

3. K-3 Checklist- check all that applies to you and leave uncheck the ones that dont

4. 2 Passport Size Photos of Beneficiary

5. 1 Copy of Beneficiary's Passport Biographic Page

sent the Packet 3 response to:

That's all you need to send right now to get packet 4. All required documents on packet 3 checklist should be hand carry for interview or submit to VFS 7 days prior to interview date. PM if you need any help, I will gladly help you out.
