  1. Please ignore the uneducated comments people have provided above when they don't know anything.

You are asked this question on the citizenship application.

You need to consult with a lawyer on this issue, but you'll be able to apply to citizenship.

You have to answer the question true, but your lawyer will guide you to write an affidavit explaining why the voter question was answered that way.

I didn't read the whole story you posted about the girl, but maybe she lied on the answer and was caught?? I'm just speculating here.

Consult a good lawyer and I think you'll be fine to apply for citizenship.

    Peace!

  2. BethandBilly, congrats again

I was trying to send u an email but not able to

    Guys,

sorry for the delay to post my review. Too much celebrating!

I applied for US Citizenship based on 3yrs marriage.

I arrived at Dallas office at 7:30am, was called in about 8:15am. Interview lasted about 20min or so.

Officer wasn't very friendly at first (not even good morning) but after a few minutes she started to loosen up.

Since she noticed I could speak English well, she jumped straight into the civic and writing portion of the interview.

    Some of the questions were:

Who servers if the president is unable to serve?

Explain one of the 4 amendments about voting?

Why does the flag has 13 stripes?

Name one right of all Americans that is on the first amendment?

(can't remember the other 2) She stopped at question 6, since I got all correct.

Reading question was "Which state has the most people?" Written answer: California has the most people.

I joked about my bad hand writing, she smiled and said most people had it worse than mine.

She then went on to look at my file. It seemed like she hasn't seem my file before (it was huge! every single piece of paper I ever sent to them)

The file was divided from AOS, ROC and Citizenship.

She asked me address, DOB, etc and then the YES and NO questions.

Asked if I worked and showed an interest in my job, kept asking questions about it.

She was curious why I had traveled outside US 7 times over the past 3 years, I explained I have to go overseas for work.

She didn't ask for anything I had brought, besides GC, DL and passport. Not even my latest tax return. Didn't ask for original of anything.

Then she said it all looked good and I was approved. She left to get a piece of paper and came back with a form for me to come back same day at 1pm for oath ceremony.

The whole interview was in a very friendly mood and I wasn't nervous at all. She talked how behind she starts her day and I asked how many more cases she had that day, she said 13!

I came back for ceremony at 1pm yesterday, and there were 70 others from 27 countries. I was expecting more from the ceremony. It seemed like they are doing so many that it's not very personal anymore, the officer was reading off a page all she had to say and was mechanical. But it was emotional to sing the national anthem knowing that I was about to become american.

It lasted about 1 hour and I got my certificate.

    I'm finally done with USCIS!

Thanks everybody for you support here on VJ.

  4. Hey everybody,

While I was here afraid that I'd get a RFE or that I would have to wait many more months, I received my approval letter today! I'm so excited!

Decision date shows 12/08/11. The letter came from the local Dallas office.

I can't wait for my card to arrive. It was nice to have the support from everybody here and know that many others were waiting for so long like me.

    Thanks,

    DASH-TX

  5. I just had similar experience yesterday, coming back from Mexico. At the airport in the US, the officer looked confused at the letter and asked me what that was about. It seemed he didn't get my explanation and called another officer. The other said everything was fine and explained to him the reason for the letter. He still didn't seem to get it, but did the finger print, photo and let me go.

They were friendly, but I guess they are not very well trained.

When I was leaving the US at the airport and also when I got to Mexico, they made an issue and had to call the supervisor to let me in, because my GC was expired. If I knew it was going to be like that, I would have gone get a stamp on the passport.

But overall, it worked out. I'm back in the US.

  6. Rocks,

    NOA is 4/18.

    thanks.

  7. Fala Juliana!

I'm in TX! the law here states that you only get a DL if you have more than 6 months of US stay on your visa. The letter gives you a year of residence, so you should be able to renew your DL. This is lack of information from the person at the DMV. Either go to a different DMV if you can, or ask to speak with a supervisor/manager at your local DMV.

See this link for more info: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/LawfulStatusDLID.htm

  9. Hi There!

I'm asking a question for my cousin.

He is USC and was in the Navy for 7 years. Since he left the Navy he has been living off the GI Bill Education Benefits. He makes around $1700/month and this money is tax free. He didn't file a income tax return for the past 4 years.

He is married to a B1 holder and they are applying for AOS.

What do we do about his I-864 form? He has no Income Tax return. Would a letter explaning this be enough?

Should he just leave question 25 on the I864 blank?

They already have another USC who will be a co-sponsor.

Please advise if you've been on this situation or know what to do.

    Thanks!

    dash-tx

  10. that's good to know - i can probably get family to go to the effort of getting them notarised, but i feel like it's gonna be a real pain to ask my husband's and my co-workers to do something like that.

Have them go to their bank. Most banks have a Notary on staff for clients. It's easy and usually free.

I had all my affidavits notirized and the IO did look at them during the interview.

    Good luck.

    dash-tx

  11. I was wondering about the delayed too but the interviewing officer told me and my hubby that the card production will last up to 3 months so, he stamped my passport and he told us that I should be fine with the stamp and I can even use it for employment and travel. After that, I applied for my licensure in our state since they required permanent residency. The bad thing was, they won't accept the passport stamp..so rediculous! They told us that we have to wait for the welcome letter or the GC for the basis! So stupid! Now, which is more important, the 1yr residency stamp or the welcome letter which only states "welcome to america"? But anyways, I already received the welcome letter and have applied for my licensure at the school district. Im just wondering why there is so much delayed for card production. My AOS was approved May 19th.

If there's much delay, I hope they will grant us 10yrs residency! I will not mind for the delays then if i get this! who knows?

    Hey,

agree with you. I still check the mail everyday, but deep inside I really would love for the delay to get me a 10yr GC. :-)

  12. Hello,

We are filling out our I-864, and we came to section 25, which asks for federal income tax return information. We have copies of the citizen's W-2's and Tax returns for the last 3 or 4 years, and some of the other documentation.

My question is which tax documents should be attached? When I did my taxes, I did it all online, so each of my tax return copies is 30-40 pages long. That would mean that we would be mailing at least 100-150 pages of documentation along with this form. Is all of this necessary to send them, or will 1040's and W-2's be sufficient?

Also, I earned a bit of interest income on investments that I have had for the past few years, but I do not have copies of my 1099 and other tax forms for them. However, my salary income alone is well above poverty guidelines. With that in mind, will we still be okay? Do I need to track down all of this documentation?

Hopefully all of the questions above are clear. Thanks again for all of you help!

You can send only the 1040 and attached schedules with W2s or 1099s.

I filled all 3 years of information on the i864 but I only subimitted last year's return when I filled.

I brought all years with me to the interview, but I wasn't asked for it.

  13. My cousin (USC) and her husband (Bahamas citizen) have been married for two years, and they have a one year old child (USC).

Her husband came to the USA on a student visa about 10 years ago, and has been living here illegally since graduating in 2003.

What options do they have? If they apply for the IR1 visa (I-130, I-751, etc.), will he be deported since he is living here illegally now?

Any help or advice is appreciated!

That won't be a problem. Just follow the advice that received on the other reply.

I was in the same situation as your cousin and everything went fine.

    Good luck on your journey.

  14. Hello all!

My friend just became a USC last week and he wants to apply for his two brothers. They all came here about 7 years ago with tourist visas and are currently out of status.

Can he as a USC apply for his siblings to adjust their status?

I understand the wait for sibling is very long, but they are willing to go through that if the Adjustment fo Status is possible.

I've heard that this was possible up to 2001 and not anymore, but I also heard otherwise.

Just wanted to get some information from someone that knows this or have been through it.

    Thanks.
