I do not think the OP was talking about I-864, it was affidavit letters for ROC. However, I had our friends notarize their letters. I do not think it matters if you send the letters unnotarized, it is just showing that the letters were signed by actual people.

I was just comparing the affidavit for the ROC to the I-864, which are both sworn statements. Neither are required to be notarized.

yes, affidavit should be notarized. It is a sworn statement. Just go to your bank and ask for notary. this is not hard to do. To Whom It May Concern is the formal greeting on any standard business letter when you do not know name of receiptent.

We didn't notarize ours. The Affidavit of Support document (I-864) is a sworn statement, and I don't think we were required to notarize it either.

I'm updating our status... I've received text and email messages today that my hubby's green card is in production as of yesterday (June 13). We should expect to receive it in the mail in 30 days. Yay!!!

Hubby just called in to say that the "Notice of Removal Of Conditional Basis of Lawful Permanent Residence" letter arrived today! It says to allow 60 days for the new green card to arrive. I don't really think it will take that long... I'm betting we will receive it on or before this coming Saturday. I will keep you guys posted.

Based on the I-757 instructions, I surmised that a signed affidavit is sufficient. It seems, however, than unlike any of the other supporting documents, they do need the original, not a copy - so I am planing on including original.

My question - the form instructions make it sound like it's required to have at least 2 affidavits. I have only obtained 1, and really prefer not to have to ask friends for more. I have pretty extensive financial, etc. evidence, so am not worried about my evidence being thin. Based on what I am seeing, it seems many people did not include affidavits at all and were fine. It is just odd, though, that the USCIS instructions, at least on their face, seem to require inclusion of such. Do you all think it would be problematic if I only send 1 affidavit?

We made an info-pass appointment to USCIS office here in SF last March to verify they had our correct address. While we were they, we asked the officer what documents we should submit along with the I-751. Since we have a son, he said submitting our son's birth certificate, joint bank accounts, electrical bills, joint tax transcripts, and affidavits from family would be enough.

I didn't get mine notarized. The people who supplied the sworn affidavits signed with

Hey all, alive and kickin' here. I'm back at work while hubby attempts to entertain himself at home. One disadvantage to living on an island - not a whole lot to do here. He is chompin' at the bit to find a job! We can't even get a simple ID card until he has his SSN. Washington State requires 4 documents to issue an ID card we have 3 (passport, visa and marriage certificate), the 4th can be SSN, original BC, foreign drivers license or current school transcript - we have none of those things. So we wait......

As for POE - EASY EASY EASY!! Less than 20 minutes at JFK. Although getting out of Senegal was a HUGE process - sheesh!!! EVERY single guard at the airport asked for SO's passport, I could have walked right by them. The final check point was entirely frustrating the man kept questioning my husband and examining his visa, it wasn't until I came up next to my husband (I went through a different security point) and looked at the man in a very upset and questioning manner that he quit talking and just stamped husbands passport. You know I kind of expected a bit of discrimination from US side but NEVER thought we would get it in his residential country. Like I said, everyone at JFK was great and quick!!

SO had a 21 hour layover in NY, I only had a 6 hour layover. We walked the route he would need to take to get to the right terminal a couple of times before I left. He did fabulous, arrived in Seattle with no problem at all. I brought my daughter with me to pick him up and she JUMPED outta of the truck and ran and hugged him. Shocked me because she has never met him before and she tends to be a bit shy. 3 of my 4 boys and my daughter in law greeted him with big hugs also. The 4th....well.... he'll come around. He shook his hand and has offered to show him the bus system here on the island. My grandson is coming around too, he's just 3 years old.

We have toured a little bit of the island together - he was very confused as to why on earth people in the US would EVER want to buy a rat or mouse to have as a pet. He said if he had known he would have rounded up several and brought them here to sell

So, if the CEMAR is the Certificate of Marriage the what the heck is the NSO Document I have that actually bears the title of "Certificate of Marriage" and is the same document my wife & I signed in front of the Mayor of Paniqui in Mom's living room?

The document signed in front of the mayor is your Marriage Contract/Marriage Certificate/Certificate of Marriage. CEMAR/CENOMAR is a document issued by the NSO to interested parties certifying the existence or non-existence of a record of marriage.

I know they all sound the same...

Is the "Advisory of Marriages" needed if you already have the Official NSO copy of your Certificate of Marriage?

My husband requested the "Advisory of Marriages" form from NSO few weeks before his interview. The pre-screener and the CO didn't ask for it.

I do recommend that you obtain it just in case you get strict pre-screener and CO. Goodluck.

WE ARE ON ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW. MY HUSBAND GOT THE WHITE SLIP. I AM SO SAD AND BEEN CRYING ALL NIGHT. TODAY WAS MY BIRTHDAY AND EVEN THE CONSUL KNEW IT. THEY DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT MY HUSBANDS DOCUMENTS, ALL THOSE THINGS I ASKED HIM TO BRING. THEY JUST WANTED TO SEE PHOTOS OF US. EVEN THE POLICE CLEARANCE THAT WE WERE REQUIRED TO BRING AGAIN TO THE INTERVIEW (THE PAKISTAN POLICE CLEARANCE). HE SAID OUR DOCUMENTS WERE FINE AND THEY WERE COMPLETE.

HE SAID THAT THEY HAVE TO CHECK FURTHER SOME THINGS WHEN HE ASKED MY HUSBAND HOW OFTEN HE GOES BACK HOME TO PAKISTAN ( MY HUSBAND SAID EVERY YEAR FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS DURING SUMMER VACATION WHEN I AM OFF SCHOOL TO VISIT MY PARENTS). I WISH I WAS THERE AT THE INTERVIEW. BECAUSE WHEN HE SAID ALL YOUR DOCUMENTS ARE FINE THEN I WOULD HAVE SAID THEN WHERE THE HELL IS OUR VISA?

THE ONLY THING THAT IS OPTIMISTIC IN OUR CASE IS THAT THEY KEPT MY HUSBANDS PASSPORT AND THAT THEY TOOK HIS NAME, ADDRESS, EMAIL AND PHONE NUMBER SO THAT THEY CAN CONTACT HIM WHEN THEY SEND THE VISA.

HOW LONG IS THIS AND WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?

Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear about the AP. But think positive. The fact that they didn't ask for additional documents is a good sign. And knowing that your hubby travels often to Pakistan and may need to have his passport to do so means that they will not keep his passport for a long time. Just give them time to do what they need to do. I'm sure your hubby will get his passport with his visa soon.

BLESS GOD ALMIGHTY even though we had TWO MAJOR descreptancies we were APPROVED!!!! GOD IS SO AWESOME!!! Husband told interviewer wrong internet site where we met and wrong date of meeting the first time but we were able to explain and the woman understood!!! NOT only that I showed her I have already purchased the plane tickets and she said, "We advise not to purchase tickets until visa is in hand." I said, "Yes I understand, but if you look there on his ticket I got a ticket for $140, I HAD to buy it!!" She said, "$140??? Tell me how to do that!" I told her I used airline miles but had to purchase 3 weeks in advance. She asked if I could change it, I said "I can but it wIll cost." She said we don't usually give out visas until Tuesday afternoon and the ticket is for Tuesday morning. I said, "yes I know we bought it being positive we would receive the visa." She said, "Ok I'll put it through now and you will have it Monday" GLORY BE TO GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

So I got a stupid question: does he need to go in the line at the airport that is for US citizens and permanent residents, or does he need to go somewhere else since he isn't a permanent resident yet? I think the only other line I have seen is for visitors and he sure isn't just visiting, so USC/perms line makes more sense, but still maybe I missed something...

Hi V! You're not the only one. I've researched about the AOS as well right after Carlo's visa was approved. But thank God, I've gotten over it and learned to relax a bit. I promised myself not to think about it till next year. LOL

As for the POE here in San Francisco, there's a separate lines for USC, Visitors, Permanent Residents, and New Immigrants. The immigration officers allowed me to go in line with Carlo and get processed in the New Immigrants line.

I'd love to answer you but since we're driving I know nothing about the airports. Just thought I'd pop in and say hi anyway and welcome back! BTW, when is POE going to be?

Congratulations to everyone who just got approved!!! My wife had an CR1 inetrview today in Islamabad. She was approved and they kept her passport and told her that she will recieve her passport along with visa within four days via American Express Courier service. They asked very simple questions about my job and how we met etc. They did see our weeding pics and then approved her. My wife said that there was a pakistan guy with an American lady and they both interviwed her. She said that they both were very polite and nice with her.

Yes, they only interview the petitioner. I am not sure how Vietnam does things but in Manila the USC is allowed in the embassy but not in the interview room. We had a short relationship with only one in person meeting and married on the first visit. My second visit was for the interview and I carried the 16 pounds of chat logs, emails, and phone records to the pre screener's window and the Interviewer's room so that they would both see me and know I was there.

We were told by vj'ers that 16 pounds was way too much and that was overkill. Even though our relationship was shorter than most we wanted to impress upon them that we had 10 plus hours a day of talking and Emailing. The pre screener had an attitude when we went in and was asking all sorts of questions about length of relationship, how many times I was here, etc. When she asked for emails and stuff and Ivy set that HUGE stack of papers on the counter and told her that was only 3weeks of chat there was more the pre screener lost her smart #### attitude and became real nice and said she only wanted a few of the phone records.

So,.... It is my opinion that with the huge stack of papers and me being there definitely made a difference for our short relationship. For those who don't know, we met on okcupid.com on September 14th 2008, I flew to Manila on January 25th 2009, we married on February 18th 2009, I left on February 23th 2009, I filed on March 6th 2009 and we got her visa on August 12th 2 days after the interview.

Congratulations!! I'm sure it's such a huge relief that part of the journey is over!

I was also with my hubby when he was interview last June 8. The prescreener and the consulate were both really nice and friendly. I was allowed to come in with him to the interview room. As a matter of fact, I was also sworn in and was asked questions by both the prescreener and consulate. The questions were pretty simple and basic. The interviews with the prescreener and the consulate lasted less than 10 minutes combined. It definitely helped that I was with my hubby as they didn't ask for any evidence etc. The prescreener just asked if we had photos together just in case the consulate would have asked for them (which he didn't).

Anyway, goodluck on your POE. Another chapter of your journey together is about to start. The best is yet to come.

:idea: Just wanted to share some info with you - I called USEM this morning and asked if they had an earlier date available than my scheduled date. I had originally scheduled Sept 15th and they said I could choose Aug 19th or Aug25th. As my medical was scheduled for Aug 20th, and Aug 19th is in only 3 working days, I wouldn't have the time to get ready for 19th so I rescheduled for Aug 25th. That's 22 days earlier. WOO HOO :dance:

So, if anyone has more than a month and a half to interview date and is sure that their file has been received to USEM in their country, go ahead and give it a shot, it is soooooo worth it :thumbs:

Carlo took his medical exams about two weeks before his interview. But your hubby can take his earlier if he has no plans to travel outside the Philippines. St Luke's Medical Center will take his passport and forward it to the embassy.
