  1. Hoping someone has had a similar situation as this one because I'm stumped...

I just tried adding my wife's EAC# to the USCIS profile website, but got an error "Attempting to add a case that does not exist. Check the application receipt number."

My wife's 2-year green card expired on 10/19, and we applied for her I-751 on 7/19. The receipt came in on 7/26, and she had her biometrics in August. I'm thinking we're ok here, but I'd like to be able to check the status. Has anyone had a similar error? Also, is there any other way for me to check the status?

  2. My wife's AOS was just approved yesterday, and the card is being prepared currently

We are planning to travel at the end of November, so we should have the card by that time.

When we leave the country, do we just need her passport and Green Card? Or, do we need her Advance Parole documents too. (I believe she just needs her Green Card, just checking)

Also, when we come back, since we will be traveling together, can she come into the US Citizen line with me, or does she have to go to the Permanent Resident line, while I go to US Citizen line? (I actually don't remember if there's a separate line for Per Residents, so correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks!!

  3. 2. Permanent Resident of the US?

No. Not until she gets a GC. Its "Resident Since" date is always on or very close after the date on the "Card Production Ordered" email. If you haven't gotten that, she definitely isn't a PR, and even if you have, she might not be quite yet.

    3. If not PR, A#?

She actually has an A# you can give them anyways.

    4. If not citizen or PR, status?

K-1 visa entrant and AOS applicant.

I figured for the citizenship question (thanks though).

Her Green Card should be in the mail. Once she gets it she is a permanent resident right?

What is the difference between EAD and AOS status? I thought AOS makes her a permanent resident...

For #4 I put Fiance of a US citizen, since AOS applicant is not a choice. Spouse of a US citizen is though, should I put that instead?

  4. My wife came to the US in mid June, and we got married in early July. Her EAD was approved yesterday, but we are still awaiting AOS.

She wants to take courses at the county college. One of the questions is:

    17. Are you a U.S. citizen?

Yes (If yes, please skip to question #18)

No (If no, please answer a through e below.)

    1. If not a U.S. Citizen, what is your country of citizenship?

    2. If not a U.S. Citizen, are you a permanent resident of the United States? Yes No

    3. If a permanent resident, what is your alien registration number?

    4. If not a citizen or permanent resident, what type of status do you currently hold?

Anyone know what we should do??

  5. Two completely separate issues:

    1. Changing my wife's name

We went to the SSO today and they told us that we need to notify USCIS regarding the name change before they can do anything. We went to the USCIS office and set up an appointment to do so. I have not sent in the AOS packet yet.

Thoughts? Any supporting documents that I may need to make things go more smoothly?

    2. Driver's license/permit (located in NJ, so those laws apply)

My wife has an expired Brazilian driver's license, and we currently live in NJ. We have our 6 points ready, and I checked the DMV website (details below). I'm not too sure what to make of it - will she get a license or a permit? Also, if her SSN has her old name on it (because of problem #1), will her license have her old name, or can we use the marriage certificate to display the new name?

How to obtain your basic New Jersey driver license

You must also provide proof by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, authorizing your presence in the country. In order the obtain the permit, you will need to bring your foreign license and present the documents required to pass the 6 Point ID Verification.

You must also provide proof by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, authorizing your presence in the country and confirming validity of your foreign license. If you cannot show proof of driving experience you will be subject to the GDL Program requirements.

After you get the permit, visit any Driver Testing Center to take a vision test, knowledge test and possibly a road test if required.

You are not required to surrender your foreign license when MVC issues your New Jersey driver license.

    Thanks for your help!

PS - if anyone here is from NJ, does your marriage certificate display the new name for the bride? Mine only has the maiden name, and the secretary told me that is correct. We can use it as evidence that the name can be changed. Does that sound right?

  6. I could use some help, since I think we made a mistake on the marriage license. My (former) fiancée, now wife, and I got married last week, but then it occurred to me that we never changed her name. I started looking at the marriage license, and it seems like where it says "Full name of the Female" is where we should have had her new name.

    - How do we change her name? Was her new name supposed to be shown on the marriage license? Does it show up on the marriage certificate?

    - Can she change her first and last name or only her last name? (she has a compound first name and she just wants to drop one of the names)

If we were supposed to change it on the marriage license, but did that incorrectly, I'm under the impression that it takes a few months to get it changed. Should we do everything (AOS, EAD, AP, SS#, Driver's License) in her maiden name for now, and then change everything once the new marriage certificate comes through?

If we made the mistake already, please don't scold us. Try to be helpful. It sucks enough if we did make a mistake...
