  1. Hi, check the dates in the timeline in your signature block. It seems to me that you will not be eligible for naturalization on Dec. 4, 2012, based on your other dates.

And why is that? From what I've read you're eligible to apply for a 10-year greencard 2 years less 90 days after you received your 2-year greencard.

Given that my husband received his on March 4th, 2010, he is eligible for a 10-year greencard on Sunday March 4th, 2012 and we can apply 90 days before that = Monday, December 5, 2011.

As for naturalization, he'll be eligible 3 years less 90 days from when he received his greencard, meaning Monday, December 5, 2012.

  2. Thanks, Kathryn. That does provide some clarity. I just wonder why they couldn't use whatever methods they have to test the validity of a marriage at the 2-year/ROC stage at the 3-year/Citizenship stage instead. If my husband had a 3-year green card we could prove our marriage was in fact real for the past three years when we apply for his citizenship (since I already sent proof of a real relationship at the I-129F stage, Packet 3 stage, and AOS stage), instead of proving it after 2 years and then again after 3 years (assuming that we have to send more proof at that stage...I haven't read all the requirements, just the price tag :) ). I suppose discussing it won't change anything, it just really irks me to have to send big checks a year apart when nothing has really changed in between (at least for us)...especially after all the previous time and expense. Sigh.

  3. 1. Make your own post do not bump up posts from 2010.

    2. Not everyone wants to apply to become a USC after 3 years, some people want to wait a little longer.

I meant no harm (not sure what "bumping" up a post does, but you make it seem malevolent), but I had typed the same subject line and this one popped up, so didn't want to make another...

And, I get that not everyone would want to become a USC after 3 years, but if you must wait until three years, why not make the initial green card 3 years instead of 2 so there's a natural step instead of applying for a 10-year and essentially "throwing it away" after 1 year?

  4. Hi there,

I have a question about the I-751 and N-400. I don't understand why the system is set up so that when a non-USC marries a USC, they're given a 2 year green card but can't ask for citizenship until 3 years after geting green card. Why not just make the first green card a 3 year one, rather than cause someone to get a 2 year one and then a 10 year one, but only use the 10 year one for 1 year, because after that you're eligible for citizenship? Is there a reason for this? I married a non-USC in December 2009, he received his GC on March 4, 2010, and so we're getting ready to file for I-751 because December 4 = 90 days prior. BUT, it's about $600 and I just looked up N-400 which we'll have to apply from a year from now and that's ANOTHER $600.

So, I guess my question is: is it possible to just apply straight for citizenship? And if not, is there some valid reason they do this process (or just to get a lot of money)?

    Just curious...

  5. Just got this email:

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident.

On March 5, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status.

NO INTERVIEW! Looks like green card is on the way, right? Fatima, you can update the spreadsheet!

  6. We went to the address on the BioMetrics letter...201 Varick Street (corner of Houston), suite 1023...I just went this morning, and had no problems and I believe SSON went a couple weeks ago and also it was fine for them.... where did you go and what did they say?

What a pain! We did the exact same thing and were YELLED at, told that we need to read the date carefully and can't come in early. Whatever. Our appointment is for tomorrow morning so we really only "lost" a few days.

  7. By going to CSC, it will speed up the process. You will probably skip the interview process unless CSC decides you need one.

    Congrats and good Luck!!

We just got the same notice about our case being transferred to CSC. SMT, could you let us know if your case starts to move quickly? Am concerned this will slow it down, but seems most think this is a good sign, right?

  8. Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that we just got our Biometrics interview letter yesterday, 1/30 (dated 1/22). Our appointment in NYC is for 2/11, but we're going to try to do a walk-in earlier to get things moving. Fatima, would you mind updating your fabulous spreadsheet? Thanks!

Hope you all are having good weekends.

Thanks you guys for replying. I send only 2 pictures for all 3 forms:( This suckssssssssssssssss :crying::crying::crying:

We only sent 2 pics as well, but no RFE's and just got biometrics appointment letter, so think you'll be fine.

  9. My biometric appt is scheduled for 2/8/2010. But I just walked in to NYC office this morning, and completed fingerprints and photo for both I-765 and I-485. When I walked in around 8:50am, there were appx. 5 people. I was done by 9:10am, and by that time I saw appx 8 people waiting. They looked at my appointment letter, but didn't say anything. I just brought the appt letter and my passport. So quick! Hope this helps!

I'm in NYC, too. Did you go to the office near all the federal triangle downtown? Is it better to wait and do walk-in when you have the letter, or do you think we could go beforehand, with just passport and NOA's?

    Thanks!

  10. Just got NOA's in the mail!

Question for all of you, we live in NYC and the local USCIS office is fairly close -- would you recommend doing a walk-in appointment? Are there huge advantages to this? Afraid to muddy up the system if we go in and the letter comes, etc. Any advice?

Also, Fatima, just saw the spreadsheet you made -- thanks so much for doing such a great service for all of us!

  11. Check finally cashed, and saw MSC number on back, however mine ended in a 9, not 0. But, I played with ending it with a 0, 1, 4, 5, etc and got the I-130, I-765 and I-485 to pop up on USCIS online...nothing on the AP though. Strangely enough, two numbers resulted in the I-765 popping up (meaning, when I added a 4 to the end it showed the I-765, but when I added an 8 it showed the I-765 again).

Guess will just wait to get the NOA's in the mail to confirm numbers. Hopefully the AP will pop up soon, too, since we haven't gone on our honeymoon yet and we're waiting on that!
