Im in the US on a K1 Visa, still waiting for my Green Card.
We've just booked a flight to go to Germany in November for a few days. I have the Travel permit, but it says my married name. My passport still says my maiden name.
I read in another post that all I need to take in addition to my passport is my marriage certificate. Is this correct???
I just dont want to find out about trouble when I try to re-enter the US and my names on travel permit and passport dont match.
(my name on the ticket is the same as on my passport, so they will match)
And while Im at at: what are the requirements for me to renew my passport at the German Consulate in my town in the US?
Thanks for your help!!!

Also dann, toi toi toi,

Was passiert eigentlich mit meinem Personalausweis?
Ulrike

I already posted this in another thread, but I thought I should post it here as well, to maybe find someone who can help me.
I just recently had my interview March 6th, and everything went well, Im just patiently waiting for the actual letter with the visa. But I have a problem in my mind that drives me crazy:
In my German passport, which is valid 'til 2013, it shows my current address here in GErmany. BUT Im moving back to my parents in about 2 weeks. I have told the Lady at the interview about this and she said to put my parents address on the envelope for the Visa. But she didnt write my parents address down or anything. When I move back to my parents house, I have to register in that town again, which means the address in my passport will not be correct anymore.
So: Do I need to change my address in my passport, or inform the embassy again about my change of address, even though the Visa is already on its way?? AND can I even change my address in my passport, even though it will already have the visa in it??? Does anybody have experience/infos about that?? Please, help me.
And: another question while Im at it: When I actually leave GErmany (May 31st) I have to "sign out" of my town/GErmany, which means I wont be registered anymore. This seems to be important to be able to work with the German consular in the US, 'cause if I dont "sign out" the consulars wont be able to help me with renewing passports, etc. (I'd have to do it directly with Germany).
My question is, if I "sign out" and am not registered in GErmany anymore, how can I still travel to the US with my passport, isnt it unvalid if Im not registered anymore?? Or is the visa only what gets me into the country?? Sorry if these are silly questions, Im just confused. I hope someone can help me.
Thanks so much!!

NO the USA is an exception to that rule, the name checks by USCIS, NVC, and Consulate will take care of that.
http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/in...195.html#policeNote: Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.Moving this to consulate/embassy forum Police certs are NOT needed when filing the I-129F
Thank you so much for that quick answer!! Another thing off my back ;-). Thank you so much!
Have a good day!

Hello everyone,
I just had a question about the police certificates u need for the K1:
I do have my German police certificate, but the Instruction Form says u need a certificate "from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year." (Additional to the German one)
I was an Au Pair for 1 year in the States, does that mean I also need a police certificate from the States now??? And how do I get that??
Thanks for ur time and I appreciate ur help!
N-400 Part 10, question 3 and 8
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted
Forgive me, I am a notorious "Over-thinker" of things. But in Part 10, question 8 and 10 refer to the number of times I and my spouse have been married. This is the first marriage for both of us, so I am inclined to answer both questions with "1". It's the way question 8 is phrased and continues on talking about "prior spouses" that made me question myself. I am just slowly loosing my mind, so I was hoping to have someone confirm what worked for them.
THANKS!
