My oath.ceremony was June 29 in Schenectady. What a beautiful ceremony with people of all cultures and countries. I wanted to hear all their stories and see their native dress (some wore it) and hear their language. People from other cultures bring so much and imagine how they must feel to become part of the US!

It was bittersweet for me. I was so excited and I felt it was an important day but 2 weeks before my US husband walked out on me. I was scared I would no longer qualify but it has to be a legal separation or divorce so aside from the obvious stress and sadness I was happy to still have my ceremony.

My sister-in-law came with me. She is more of a sister than an in law and she has been there for me. She made it special with gifts and bubbles!

That same day I took my certificate to the passport office. They said they had to mail the original. Lucky they had a photocopier I could pay to use so I could keep a copy. I had to sign it first!

The passport cost me $35 for the county processing fee and $110 for the passport. It showed up on July 11!!! So fast! And the next day my oath certificate was also returned. I am fully done!!

I thought some people might be interested in how long the passport took. This was in warren county where I applied.

Good luck to the rest of you. I guess I'm now going to be a single American but that's fine with me, being happy is the main thing. :-)

Congrats to all and for those still waiting its time to get an appt to talk to someone.

I've noticed the timeline is very messed up. There are people missing, my interview and oath ceremony dates are now missing. Someone needs to go through and check them all. Perhaps everyone start checking and note what is missing then we can do one mass update? I can't edit it on my phone.

There may be children at the ceremony anyway if they are being naturalized. Having said that, if you can't keep your children under control then don't take them to possibly ruin someone's ceremony, wedding or otherwise. I had 3 boys and they knew how to behave. My 3 year old was my ring bearer at my wedding and behaved awesome. My cousin brought her 3 year old who screamed through my wedding vows. Not nice. The polite thing would have been to go outside. If one of my children starts to act up (they are children after all and not perfect) as the responsible person I removed them from the room. (They also learn if thy want to be included, behave!) Yes families should share in these things but when adults don't manage the situation or don't know how or have uncontrollable children then they shouldn't bring them. Often at a wedding the kids don't come for the ceremony, just the party where they can play and relax. It's stressful for an exuberant child to have to stay under control and stressful for adults to manage and people without children or who want to hear a ceremony should be allowed peace. Parents, be considerate. No one want to listen to your child scream, or watch them run around. Use your judgement. Be considerate!

They gave me a letter that says what date and place to be at for the ceremony. On the back are a number of questions similar to what you've already answered. He said to fill it out the night before the ceremony in regards to the time period between the interview and the oath ceremony.

Example: have you been married, divorced etc?

Have you travelled outside of the US. (He told me if yes write in the particulars by the question )

Have you committed an offense?

Have you been arrested?

Have you joined an organization (like communist party)

Basically asking the N400 questions again so it's up to date for the oath.

He said fill it in night before so there is no holdup on the day of but put the date for signing as the ceremony date.

Dress up, no shorts, flip flops etc.

The form is N-445: Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony.

Can't wait!!!!

For me they read the entire application, confirming the answers. She read my addresses and asked to confirm. Some questions she read out, some she asked me to answer again. Some she asked then checked off 3 in a row. I also had asked to change my name but she convinced me it was too much paperwork and I realize I've had enough paperwork!!! Hope this helps.

Good news! They never rejected my application and they never sent an RFE or yellow letter. I thought others in my position might want to know the outcome.

In fact, today was my interview and I'm approved! Oath ceremony is June 28th. Thank you to all for your support, congrats to people approved and good luck to those still waiting.

I brought originals and copies of everything, GC, all passports and everything I missed.. Eventually she asked for all of them for the file. She noted all my evidence for relationship and asked why we file taxes separate. I explained about it and it was fine. I also accidentally included an insurance for cars with my last year address but a note was made after asking is that my old address and confirming where I love now. I was asked 6 of the easy questions and also to read aloud 'Who can vote' and write 'Citizens can vote'.

At the end she stamped approved but said its not quite done. I waited for a second person to review and he gave me my oath ceremony form to be filled out the night before and dated the day of. He also returned some original documents from my file to me from way back! One was my long form birth certificate! Then shook my hand congratulations!

It was a great process. Only issue was I had flown in a private plane back in the '90's across the border a few times and they asked if I was a pilot. Then asked the pilots name. She tried to see if my passport was stamped for the crossings but I didn't have that old passport anymore. If I knew it caused flags I may have not done it. Maybe people will think about it twice if they hear this.

I'm sorry... you obviously didn't read ALL the instructions... Most specifically it looks like you didn't see the multiple mentions M-476 (both on link 1 below and in the form instructions). At the end of M-476 there is M-477 (which is also available as a separate document) which lists required documents to be sent with your application, of which the last 3 items are of course mentioned. You should probably give that a read...

I read that you should enter a country with the passport that makes most sense. For example, if you are a dual citizen, which country laws do you want to be in force while in that country? I understand if, for example, you enter say Bosnia with a US passport, in the even of issues you can get the US consulate to assist you but if you enter on the Bosnian passport then the US does not have to or may not lend assistance. That is assuming they allow you to enter on your US passport. More countries are restricting this so they can enforce laws on their citizens.

Because my dual will be with Canada I will just stick with into Canada with Canadian Passport and back into US with US passport. US won't let you back in without a US passport when you are a citizen. Which means I hope I get mine fast after my oath ceremony since I'm traveling in August!

I did all the paperwork too and organized the package and made sure my fiancé gathered the information he required. It's all fine that way. It probably makes for less omissions and mistakes. Worked fine for us, good luck!

Hi all! I received my interview letter yesterday and my interview is scheduled for May 29th! Now I have to get seriously studying. Good luck to you all! PS. The items I left off, basically everything except the photo and the application, were requested for me to bring to the interview in a note with the interview notice; a copy of all the stuff on the list and the originals. So it was no big deal. I asked at my biometrics and they said it would be no problem. Did others get asked to bring originals etc or is it just because I missed the stuff?

Hello Folks......

So I followed up on the 2 identical biometric appointments sent on different dates. I went to the biometrics center and they said everything was ok. I then called USCIS and waited one hour after being transferred to a supervisor. He did confirm that bio was good to go and the next step is interview.

I went for my biometrics today and remember I had 2 letters? Turns out they accidentally scheduled everyone for the morning so the second letter was an attempt to reschedule some for the afternoon. (Quite a few of us there had 2 letters). So it was pretty crowded because no one understood that. Great people at the Albany office!

So at the moment I'm suffering through this tummy bug feeling sorry for myself and on the off chance I check the uscis

website and low and behold I've been scheduled for my interview... No in line or anything I'm guessing it must

be a slow month in Albany Ny as I only had the biometrics done last Friday.... I am one nervous Nellie now ...

That's awesome! I have my biometrics in Albany this Friday so I better start studying! Thanks for the heads up.

I'm going to try and submit all the bits I forgot as well while there. I've had good experiences there.

I received 2 notices for the same day too. Apr 19, this Friday. I know how messed up it is when I've called in the past so I am just going. I have an 8am appt and a 1pm appt. I hope the second is not my interview, I am not ready!

Funny thing happened, I got another ASC Appointment Notice for the same day as my last one! So now on Apr 19th I have an apt for 8am and 1pm for my biometrics!

Maybe one form is for something else? Anyone know? Both notices look a little different. One notice says Biometrics notification and the other just says ASC Appointment Notice. They BOTH say:

WHEN YOU GO TO THE APPLICATION SUPPORT CENTER TO HAVE YOUR BIOMETRICS TAKEN, YOU MUST BRING.... etc

They are both for the same center, one notice date is the day before the other, however the earlier one is the one I just received in the mail. Does the one for the interview clearly say that on it?

Funny thing happened, I got another ASC Appointment Notice for the same day as my last one! So now on Apr 19th I have an apt for 8am and 1pm for my biometrics!

I'm sorry... you obviously didn't read ALL the instructions... Most specifically it looks like you didn't see the multiple mentions M-476 (both on link 1 below and in the form instructions). At the end of M-476 there is M-477 (which is also available as a separate document) which lists required documents to be sent with your application, of which the last 3 items are of course mentioned. You should probably give that a read...

Per my previous list:

- Payment in the amount of $680.00 payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Link 1, Link 2 (page 6) & Link 3 (page 1)

- N-400 – Application for Naturalization, signed & dated Link 1

- Copy of Permanent Resident Card; front and back Link 1, Link 2 (page 5) & Link 3 (page 1)

- 2 passport photos (Name & alien number on back) Link 1, Link 2 (page 5) & Link 3 (page 1)

- Copy of Birth Certificate of USC Link 3 (page 1)

- Copy of Marriage certificate, Link 3 (page 1)

- Copies of IRS Tax Return Transcripts (or other evidence per M-477) Link 3 (page 1)

Remember to READ EVERYTHING during these processes. I know this is N-400 and it's the last step for a lot of us but reading everything is very important.

You'll be happy to know that I did not get an RFE and that I have my NOA re my fingerprint date and no mention of the other documentation. Actually last time I went into that office they said "Oh, you're Canadian, I don't even know why they have you come in! Oh well, let's go do what we have to!". So perhaps if I was from a different country than Canada they might worry more. Plus in fact, if they look in my file, they have all the evidence they need, my packages have always been very complete. Thanks for the information anyway, I did compile everything I need and will bring it in anyway.

Adding check cashed, NOA and fingerprints... AND!!! So far no RFE re all the information I did not include!!!!!! I have all the items gathered now and will bring them in but I'm amazed that they accepted without anything except a photo and the application.

PS I had added my check cash date before but it was overwritten. Please be careful reposting that the last poster is on there! Thanks!

Looks like I'm in for a wait. I still don't see the checklist in the instructions, but I found the other information, thanks. Now I have that stuff ready for my RFE. :-( oh well... not quite as stressful as the other applications were! Thanks for your help!

The topic I saw you post on only forgot the copy of the GC. You said you sent: the paperwork, my passport type pictures and the check.

You were supposed to send:

- Payment in the amount of $680.00 payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security YES

- N-400 – Application for Naturalization, signed & dated YES

- Copy of Permanent Resident Card; front and back NO

- 2 passport photos (Name & alien number on back) YES

- Copy of Birth Certificate of USC NO

- Copy of Marriage certificate, NO

- Copies of IRS Tax Return Transcripts (or other evidence per M-477) NO

I expect you'll either get it returned or RFE'd. Neither is an awful option so just get your stuff together for whenever.

If you check the N-400 Instructions on the USCIS site, only the first 4 items on your list are mentioned. I see the Visa Journey list is longer but perhaps it's outdated. And you're right, an RFE is not the worst thing that can happen although after googling for others that are in my situation I hope that it might be fine anyway. Thanks for responding.
