Finally got the card!

- April 13th - approval letter in mail

- Waiting 60 days for card....... (calling 3 times after 30 days but everyone we talk to says to wait full 60 days)

- After 60 days we call in Request for Service...

- Numerous emails come in with case updates...

- Card comes in on July 8th.... exactly 86 days from Approval Letter

Well... all done for a year..... N400 next!

Hmm... one month since I have received the approval letter and still no card.

The letter was printed on plain paper, sent from Lincoln, Nebraska but on the bottom of letter shows Chicago office. Date of decision shows 4/10, I received this letter 4/13. Also, no updates on USCIS web page. Last update is the application receipt on 09/17/2012.

.................. so we wait another 30 days

Today my fiancee went to police headquarters in Bangkok and they requested a copy of my passport. Nowhere does it mention in packet 3 and embassy website about this requirement. Their explanation was that the check is for fiancee visa hence they need a copy of passport of the fiancee. Is this a new procedure?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone. I hope someone can help me with my little dilemma.

I am leaving to Thailand next month for my wedding. My original plan was to apply for K1 visa for my girl and officially marry here in US and change her status. I do not want to go to amphur and legalize this marriage while in Thailand. I have my application already filled out with all supporting evidence. I know her for 10 years and we have visited each other few times. However, she has R A1, A2 business/pleasure visa valid for 10 years sponsored by the corporation she works for in Bangkok. When she visited me last time, her stamp was only valid for 2.5 months. Almost everyone tells me to forget about K1 visa and for her to come to US and marry here, but I'm afraid that this route might not go well with immigration officer who will handle the change of status. Our plan is for her to move to US in April/May of next year so the so the time frame has no relevance.

What should I do?

Send out K1 and risk her business visa to be suspended or just wait until April, have her travel here on business visa and marry here.

Is it true that from the time she enters US on either visa, her immigration proceedings are the same? ie: change status, apply for SS and so on...

How soon can she apply for SS and drivers license here? Is it right after the change of status request?

I really do not want to put her in any additional stress caused by doing something illegal. I have read articles online that it can get to the situation where she might be deported from US if we will file for Adjustment of Status. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

ps: she is a Thai national and I am naturalized US citizen.

I started reading given links and I'm quoting a paragraph below. Depends how one might understand point number 4, the retirement in foreign country might be taken under consideration. I know this would be a very technical case but if US government official has a "bad day" than I believe it might be possible.

According to the policy statement, the presumption that a person intends to retain U.S. citizenship is not applicable when the individual:

1. formally renounces U.S. citizenship before a consular officer;

2. takes a policy level position in a foreign state;

3. is convicted of treason; or

4. performs an act made potentially expatriating by statute accompanied by conduct which is so inconsistent with retention of U.S. citizenship that it compels a conclusion that the individual intended to relinquish U.S. citizenship.

Cases in categories 2, 3, and 4 will be developed carefully by U.S. consular officers to ascertain the individual's intent toward U.S. citizenship.

In order to ensure retention of U.S. citizenship, U.S. citizens may wish to assert their citizenship status by actions confirming a continuing intent to retain U.S. citizenship. These could involve a contemporaneous written statement confirming the citizen's desire to retain U.S. citizenship, submitted to a U.S. consulate or the DOS. The U.S. citizen should also continue paying U.S. income taxes, obtaining U.S. passports, and maintaining retaining property and other ties to the United States after the expatriating act takes place to evidence an intention not to relinquish citizenship. However, as stated in the DOS policy statement, such action is not necessary where the presumption applies.

Is it possible for Naturalized US Citizen to loose his/her US Citizenship by residing abroad (not necessary in birth country) for extended period of time?

For example: An English or French citizen is naturalized in US and has dual citizenship. Lives and works in US for let's say 30 years and retires. Next, resides in Thailand on retirement visa.

From what I have heard, naturalized citizen has to reside in US for a certain period of time every year. I'm trying to find information online but really cant find anything relating to this issue.

Does anyone know?
