I am about to file to remove the conditions on residence and want to have my married name on my Green Card. My original 2 year Green Card contains my maiden name and I am wondering how I can change this.
My concern is that all my documents are listed under my new married name. Only my foreign passport and conditional green card bear my maiden name.
On the I-751 form should I use my new married name under the first box which is for the family name (aka last name)?
Should I use my new last name for the Affidavit letters?
Will this confuse anyone at USCIS?
Thanks for all your help

Boy do I feel stupid. I was under the impression they wanted my old family name. I see your point load and clear.
Thanks

You know what really sucks. I looked over my I-485 and there is no place for me to put my married name. In every section it asks for my "Family" name.
I just want to know why I couldn't get my Green Card in my married name the first time around? Rather than waste a ton of money to change things, I guess I will have to wait 2 years until I go to get my 10 year Green Card.
What would have been the procedure for getting my Green Card with my married name on it the first time around?

I couple months ago I got my Green Card and my Work Authorization card.
Other than those two cards, everything else I have (US Drivers License, Social Security Card, Marriage Certificate) is in my new married name.
My question is where do I go to change my Green Card and Work Authorization card to my married name?
Thanks for your help.

Ok so my wife got her two year green card. Of course her name on the Greencard and Work ID Card are all in her maiden name.
She wants to know when we can change her last name to mine. What order do you go in?
Thanks

That's funny because we only had biometrics. No interview at all.
I'll take anything at this point. It gives us two years to wait until we have any more serious work to do for USCIS.

If we have been approved that would be record time.
The letter was so weird sounding that I couldn't get it.
Thanks for the quick reply. Just wondering is that what your letter looked like? Does that mean we get the real green card in the mail (aka the one that is the size of a credit card)?

If anyone can decipher this message you have a unique skill for understanding code.
I would like to know what this means. My wife just had biometrics done and we filed in March of this year.
So read the following brief excerpt and if you have gotten one please tell me what this means.
Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS
Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident.
On July 13, 2007, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register

I sent my AOS to the Chicago address. The check was cashed in January. I have the check in hand with the USCIS number on it.
It reads MSC followed by ten digits in the upper left corner very clearly.
USCIS has not sent me a notice of receipt. Furthermore they don't have any information on my file with the MSC number they issued.
I have called many times and over the last 10 days, they keep saying their computers are down.
What is the appropriate step to take? Who do I speak with and what exactly should I say?
Thanks everybody, you are the best.

Hey Chris, maybe I am crazy, but I think Veronica is entering at a different point then Denver.
Her point of entry (POE) is the first place her plane touches on American Soil. Probably JFK in NY or Newark in NJ.
Write me a letter and tell me how things are.

The problem is that I can't change the address on line and I can't change the address on the internet. I don't need to file an AR-11. Our physical address has never changed. We are in the same house at the same address. Only our mail address has changed. The system has been down for 5 days. What kind of people do they employ? I can't find my case number or anything through them. She finds all my information, but won't tell me the petitioner or my wife, the applicant anything.
Thanks for nothing USCIS.

I called USCIS to inquire on my status of my wifes AP, AOS, and EAP. Checks were cashed 5 weeks ago and I have no notice.
I was told to use the MSC code +10 digits to get an update. Unfortunately all systems are down. I can't add a record. I was also told by someone who new next to nothing that she could find no record. When I went one step up the chain, I was told that I could receive no help because all the systems were down.
My concern is that I need to change our mail notification address and have no way to do so. Do I just keep trying everyday?
I have my checks back in hand and stamped on the back with the appropriate case numbers. I am hoping all those numbers are correct and will do me good because so far nobody is able to help.
Has anyone else encountered problems simply trying to chance their mailing address? Also can it be done online? And does anyone know for sure if they are using MSC as the prefix to the 10 digit number?
Thanks

Congratulations Chris. Where is she flying into? Ana came with me from Moldova on Hungarian Airlines (AKA Malev) and went through JFK. It was so easy. She got her temporary work stamp and it took less than 5 minutes.
Let me know when you get married.

Finally we are married and mailed out all our documents.
This was even more difficult than I ever imagined.
Thank heavens for VJ. I love all you guys and will continue to answer as many questions as I have experience with.
With much love,

Do any of the following need to be notorized? I looked at all the instuctions and they didn't show any place to be notorized.
That struck me as strange because way back when I did my I-134 for my wife's k-1 it needed to be notorized.
Anyone notorize anything?

If you are filing all forms at once (AOS, EAD, AP) what is your current status? Adjustment Applicant or k-1 visa holder?
-
If you are a student can that be considered last employment or last employment abroad?
-
My wife has not worked in the last year while she was waiting for her visa. Now when we are filling out the top section of work history. Do we put unemployed or not employed or do we leave the top line empty?
-
I read it and it says to send EAD to the Chicago Lockbox if your response was C9.
But I noticed on the end of the I-85 instuctions it says that k-1 fiances have a new direct mailing address which is the Chicago lockbox. Can anyone verify they did this and it was right?
-
So with a EAD listed as a C 9, I can't mail it with my AOS to the local service center? In other words, it can't go to Vermont, but has to go to the Chicago Lockbox?
So in effect, I have to send it separately from my AOS, and AP applications? Right?
-
Under question 16 it asks you to write how you are eligible for EAD.
If you came to the US on a k-1 and are applying for AOS and EAD at the same time what did you fellow VJ'ers use.
Is it A 6 or C 9???
Also if you use c 9 it gets mailed somewhere wierd in Nebraska which freaks me out a little, instead of using the local service center address.
-
Of course. The assets are cash, investments, bonds, a home, stocks, etc. Basically money to live on as long as necessary.
Thanks

I have conflicting information. I know the immigrant needs a GA-325 included with the AOS application. Do I as a sponsor also need to include mine?
Thanks

I run a family business and recently my mother and I have not been reporting income on our 1040 because business is slow. Basically our 1040 says 0 for income. However, we both have more than 1 million in assets and fully own 2 houses.
Will we qualify on our assets alone if our liquid assets total more than 1 million dollars?
Thanks
Tim
