  1. Are those documents were asked by the church where you are planning to do the ceremony? Since you are already married, all you have to submit is a copy of your marriage contract and maybe a copy of the Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage. If the church is asking for Certificate of No Marriage then explain to them that you don't have those in the states. Anyway, as my experience...we have only submitted the marriage license from the city civil registrar and both our catholic baptismal certificate. Go to the office of the parish to clarify this thing.

Actually, they were asked by the Chancery Office of the Roman Catholic Church in Cubao.

Anyway, after extensive searching on the internet and calling, I came up to the Vital Records in Washington State. And I can use what they term a "Single Status Letter"

They will do a thorough search and show that I have not contracted marriage in the state of Washington for the past 10 years.

It will have the seal of Washington on it. I paid $35 for it.

I hope this will be good enough for the chancery.

  2. Hello to all VJ members,

I hope all your journeys are going well. And that you are all well on your way to having your loved ones with you.

My wife and I have been civilly married already in the Quezon City Hall of Justice.

And we have just got her visa issued just this month.

However, we still would like to have a Church wedding in the Catholic Church in the Philippines.

And there are some documents that I have to furnish on my end.

I have to obtain two documents.

    *Certificate of Search of Marriage

    *Certificate of No Marriage.

I come from Washington State. Is there anyone out there that would know what government numbers to call or where to inquire?

Because I remember obtaining a "Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage" form the US Embassy in Manila because the USA doesn't keep a central statistics office like the Philippines.

We used that form to become civilly married there in the court system.

This is straight from the US Embassy, Manila website:

"Any foreigner who wishes to marry in the Philippines is required by the Philippine Government to obtain from his/her Embassy a "Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage" before filing an application for a marriage license. This certification affirms that there are no legal impediments to the foreigner marrying a Filipino (i.e, that the foreigner is already married to someone else). Unlike the Philippines, the U.S. Government does not keep a central statistical registry for births, marriages and deaths and cannot verify this information. Instead, the Philippine Government accepts an "Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage."

So I'm kind of confused here :help:

If the US Government can't verify this information, how am I able to obtain those two documents?

    Is there an equivalent document?

Thanks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. I'm assuming your attorney is your "agent" (individual that deals with correspondence between you and the nvc) right?

I would have your attorney call up the NVC to clear up this biographical error and have the NVC change your wife's middle name reflecting her father's last name (family name).

Did your wife also change her name on her passport to reflect the proper info?

The visa that is issued will reflect that biographic info on her passport as well as the info on the DS230.

  4. Wow!!! Thanks for all the greetings of congratulations everyone. My wife and I are overwhelmed with the amount of replies. :wow::)

That's what you all are all about. Support. Positive in, positive out right? :)

We all know that waiting is very hard to do. But if we are patient, God will do wonderful things for your marriage.

    (1Corinthians 13:4-8)

    God Bless you all...

  5. Hi everyone. Just want to let you all know that my wife passed her interview yesterday! Yay!

    Here is her account: :)

Everything went fine with the consulate officer. Except that it was a long wait period. There were so many people there. I arrived 715am., and I was done with the process at 1215pm. So to all of you having an interview in the Manila US Embassy, allow yourself probably 4-5 hours of total wait and processing times.

There was a pre-screener who was more meticulous than the consul. The pre-screener asked for our evidence (emails, chats, pictures, etc.)The consul pretty much asked me questions from our forms like he was using them as a guide. Pretty much information from our biographic forms.

Oddly enough, the pre-screener didn't ask for our other original documents. But, that's not to say that you should not bring them. It's still a good idea to bring those documents because you might encounter a pre-screener or consul who is different. In other words, just come prepared.

My overall experience was that it was tiring. Just a long process. But it was worth the wait.

My wife and I would like to thank all those who contributed thoughtfully all their experience to these forums and their support as well. And to all those who personally helped us (you know who you are :star: ), thank you soo much

For all you newbies and those on your way, just hang in there and never give up your faith and hope...

This website is more than just information. It's about a support group from people all over the world to come together and share their experiences. And through those experiences, wisdom will follow for others to hear. Whatever your journey in the visa process may entail, we hope and pray that you and your loved ones are blessed and protected. Just be patient, for it is in His time.

    God Bless you all....

  7. Hello fellow Filipinos :)

My interview date is on May 26 2009.

Does anyone else have that same date or close to it?

How are you feeling about your awaiting interview? :)

Hope all is well with your journeys. God Bless!

Hi Aimee! Isle here from Cavite. My interview date is on May 18, 2009. My medical is on May 11. Where are you coming from? What visa did you apply for? We applied for K1.

    1648986sps8y5r8ke.gif

Hi there!! How did your medical go? I'm from Quezon City. My husband and I applied for the CR-1 visa since we got married first. We hope and pray that your medical went well, and that your coming interview will go real well also.

    God Bless...

  8. Ok, Thank you all for taking the time to reply. It really helps. Actually I was about to do exactly what Aimee and Albert did but wasn't so sure so I need some affirmation. It worked for Aimee and Albert so I surmise it will work for me and my wife too to use this process (unless others may have a surer option):

    I-130 - Maiden name

    DS-3032 - Maiden name

DS-230 - MaRRied name, since there's a box that gives us a space to annotate my wife's maiden name (ie "Other names used").

    Passport - MaRRied name.

    @Aimee and Albert,

RE: DS-3032, you said it was preprinted out for you by NVC already, that means NVC will be the one to provide us the form, no need for us to print a blank one online?

Yes, it was actually sent to us by snail mail to both of us. My wife sent it directly to the NVC via FedEx and chose me as her Agent.

I see that you can download the form online, but not sure if you can use that because our preprinted one had a barcode. And the downloaded form asks you for that barcode. Contact the NVC if they sent you a hardcopy yet.

This wiki visajourney guide helped us out alot.

    Here's the link:

I hope this helps you. God Bless...

  9. first : YOU DONT updare ur wife case to IR-1(IR-1) IS the visa tht u r wife gets if she is to enter the US after the 2nd Anniv of your marriage togethr

Second : USCIS care tht HER NAME at the marriage time (the Maiden) should Match the Marriage certificate one ..so u r good to go ....

Third : u upgrade the petition upon being USC at once ...and then on DS-3032 and DS-230 it should carry her NEW MARRIED NAME cz the name she write in both forms is what will be used in the stamped Visa BESIDE ...theres a field tht will ask for OTHER NAMES USED ..so she can mention all her earlier names if Any ..

    Hope that Served ...

    Good Luck

Yup. no_where_man described it exactly.

This is what we did according to the forums.

    I-130 -Maiden name

DS-3032 -Maiden name (it was actually pre-printed out for us by the NVC)

DS-230 -Married name (In one of the fields called "other names used," put her maiden name in that field")

Passport -Married name. Then when she goes for medical, slec (St. Luke's Extension Clinic) will see her married name and annotate it on their forms.

  10. I never thought that our case will be complete before the end of April. I asked GOD to please make our case complete before the end of this month and HE did - GOD answered our prayers. Even there are times that we almost want to give up, GOD said NO but to continue to fight and finish the race that HE set upon us..

I listened to the AVR and it says that we are case complete just today April 30, 2009. I shouted for joy and called my husband at work and he was surprised. We're so happy and praising GOD for this!! Thank you Lord!:dance::dance::dance::dance:

I am happy that finally this paperworks is about to end. I'm still going to hold on to my Lord Jesus and put our faith upon Him.. Only to HIM and no one else!!!

First of all, a big and hearty congratulations to you. May God guide you on your life together....

    -Aimee and Albert

  11. "DA!! DA !!! DA!!! " Were her words on the phone... I only talked for 1 minute... don't have details... I currently don't care!!! She PASSED the interview!!!!:dance:

    That's all the matters!

I'm going to have a heck of a time trying to be productive at work today...

Don't worry, I'll give full details later... ;)

    Congratulations!!! :star: :star: :star:

  12. hello aimee and albert...Congratulations...You are blessed and I'm pretty sure you'll make it in the interview without any problem..

hey, i am looking at your timeline there, and though we may be in different category (i'm F2B), our dates of submissions of paper are very close..i sent my response to the RFE (DS230) to NVC on March 16, 2009 via DHL and NVC got the documents on March 18, 2009, it was signed for by J DESMOND, yours is march 23 and 24 respectively....though I have not confirmed with my sister (my agent) in the US whether the case is already complete but based on your timeline Im assuming, mine is forwarded to the US embassy in Manila too (perhaps together with yours and others)

What i was wanting to ask you is how do I confirm this with the embassy in manila...? Did you call the US Embassy to get confirmation that they already received your case? Thank you...

...never mind this one :energy: ...last night...the night right after I posted this one..my sister forwarded the emailed appointment letter for me from NVC...our papers (with my bro) were already forwarded to US COnsolate in Manila last week and I am scheduled for interview at the US Embassy in Manila on June 15..my brother is on June 29...God is really good...never doubt His kindness and generosity...Thank you :dancing::energy:

Yay! Good luck to you... God Bless!

  16. I understand it's very difficult to get a live person.

You're either on hold most of the time or not trying to get a busy signal.

Press 1 for English. Then press 5 to talk to an operator.

There are prompts for you to do this.

For best results, call the NVC when they first open. M-F at 7:30am, Eastern time.

My hubby lives in Washington. so he would have to call them up at 4:30 in the morning.

Again, it's best to call them early when their call center opens.

    Hope this helps.

Oops. I thought you were talking about the NVC :)

For the USCIS, the operators are available M-F 8:30am to 6:00pm

Prompts for my hubby when he called was 1 for English, then 9 for an operator.

Again, as with the NVC, try calling when they open.
