  1. Thanks for the replies. It is a request for more evidence. I was just confused about it after already having done the biometrics.

Big items that you'd want to include if you haven't already:

    • Federal tax filings showing married filing status (ideally, married filing jointly) covering the whole period of your relationship from your marriage to the present. Tax transcripts are better for this purpose than tax return copies, as the transcripts prove that the returns were actually filed with the IRS. Assuming you got married in 2009, you'd want to submit tax transcripts for 2009 and 2010 (2011 too if you've filed already, but most people probably haven't)
    • Evidence of joint domicile: this would include mortgage, deed, or lease documents with both your names on it
    • Other evidence of financial commingling: joint bank accounts, insurance, 401k, etc.

One important thing to note is that the evidence should cover the entire period of your marriage. For example, one joint bank account statement only proves that you had an account together for one month. Several statements from various dates show that you've held the account together for a period of time. So would a letter from your bank.

As A&B noted, being more specific as to the nature of your RFE will most likely yield more helpful answers.

  2. Hi everyone! Thank you already for your replies. Today we got a letter from USCIS "Request for more Evidence". We originally sent several financial documents with both of our names on them, and some pictures of us and our families. I guess that was not enough. Any ideas what else we should include? Right now my only idea is a statement from family and friends saying that we are a happily married couple. I am also confused that I already had my biometrics appointment and they still want more evidence.

  3. Hello everyone! I know I need to update my timeline. I moved to the US on a K1 visa in May. After everything was settled I started the process of getting my drivers license. I took the tests, passed and received a sheet of paper stating that I fulfilled all the requirements for the licence. This piece of paper was my license so far, and I have been waiting for my actual license ever since.

Today I finally received a letter from the Driver and Vehicle Services Division. But instead of my license it contained a letter saying that my licence will be withdrawn by August 12th because I did not provide all the residency documents.

When I applied for the license I provided passport, visa, marriage certificate, letters from uscis, social security number.

    What else do they want?

Has anyone else had this problem?

I do not have my EAD yet but it already got approved.

I am kind of frustrated right now. Everything always seems to be very difficult.

    Please give me some input!

    Thank you!

  4. Somebody asked for this: Yes, I just walked into the office without having an appointment that day. But I am lucky that I live very close to the office. So it wasn´t any problem at all. I just said that I have the appointment another day but that I was wondering if I could do the biometrics today. The officer said that they usually don´t do that but that they are not very busy right now and that I could just go ahead and get my biometrics done.

So I got my biometrics done two weeks ahead of the scheduled appointment.

But I don´t know if the cancelation of my previous appointment will have any effect on the processing of my case.

  5. Hello! I just got off the phone with the highly recommended Dr. Arnold office and everything sounds very easy. The thing is that I just have this little yellow book "International Certificates of Vaccination" to proof my immunizations. I can´t find the sheet of paper anymore that I got from my German doctor. I asked if copies from this little yellow book are enough and she said yes.

Is that right or can I get an RFE for it?

Does USCIS know that I already did my medical in Germany?

  6. Svetlana was an English teacher in both the Ukraine and Russia.

We had her credentials evaluated and applied one month ago for her Florida teaching certificate.

She also has applied to several private and charter schools, as well as a handful of retail stores, and to a couple of translation jobs.

But so far . . . nothing. I fear we may have to move to Tennessee (my home state and where most of my family lives) if I get laid off.

After miles and miles of government red tape, the nightmare of getting her driver's license, waiting three months for the authorization to work, and then having no success finding anything, she pretty much feels America is a third-world nation.

I can't say I blame her much. :crying:

I´m sorry to hear that. Hopefully it is just the transition that makes everyhing difficult. Since when is she here?

I can imagine that it takes time to get a job. It probably takes some time to figure out what kind of expections and requirements American employers have and adjust to that.

I am planning on doing some volunteering while I´m waiting for the EAD. That way I will at least have some American references once I apply for jobs. And I won´t be bored

Good luck for you. I hope you won´t get laid off :star:

  7. Hi! It sounds kind of stupid but I think I already have a SSN. I was in Iowa as a foreign exchange student in 2000/2001 and also got my driver´s licence there. And I think I got a SSN for that. But I don´t have the card anymore and I also don´t know the number.

I know I can get a replacement card. But can I also get one without knowing the number?

You have to fill out the same form for a normal card and a replacement card. So I figure if I don´t put in a SSN on the form they will just give me new number. And I think I could get into trouble for that.

    Am I understanding that right?

    What should I do?

  8. Hi everyone!

My question is: Can I apply for my teaching licence while waiting for AOS and EAD?

There would also be a background check and fingerprinting.

Would I get in truoble with USCIS?

I would really like to start the process already since it takes some time?

Thanks for your replies. I´m curious what your thoughts are on this.

My wife was a certified teacher in Ukraine. It will depend on state's rules of course. What she had to do, first, was have her education and credentials evaluated here. You can certainly start on that. Send her educational credentials and teaching certificate to ECE (google ECE). They will need copies of the originals and a certified translation. For $125 they give you two certified "course by course" evaluations and a determination of US equivilency. Without paying for "expedited" service it will take about a month to receive the reports. The "basic" evaluation is $80, but for teaching I think she will need the "course by course" evaluation.

My wife's Ukraine credentials were accepted as valid and equivilent to US requirements. In order to obtain a teaching certificate for public schools K-12 in Vermont, she needs an additional 3 credits of English and 1 credit of US history. She is certified to teach in private schools and/or universities with only her foreign credentials verified...again this will vary by each state.

She is taking these course now and in addition had to make a satisfactory score on the TOEFL exam for the university she attends. Not all unversities require the TOEFL exam. It is an assessment of the foreign student's English ability and can be quite difficult for non-native speakers. If your fiancee has a good grasp of English, she should do fine. Google "TOEFL" and you will find local test dates. She can also take the TOEFL in Germany. It is given worldwide. There will be no problems with the USCIS or State Department in doing this.

Thanks very much. I always like to hear what it was like for other people. I already have my credentials evaluated and I am in touch with the dpartment of education in Minnesota. We´ll see what they have to say. I am very curious and excited. Hopefully I can teach at some point.

    Thanks again.

And good luck to your wife. I think it sounds good for her. I would be glad if I only had to take 4 more credits.

  9. Hi there!

Has anyone any idea if it is legal for me to get my teaching licence while my EAD and AOS are pending?

I´m entering the US on a K1 visa on Thursday and I would like to start the process of getting my teaching licence. I already gathered all the documents and it just needs some time for the department of education to process them. So I would like to start as soon as possible.

My fiance and I want to get married as soon as possible so we will start the AOS pretty soon.

Thanks for any anserws. I always appreciate it!

  10. Hi!

Can anyone tell me how you know if your case arrived at NVC and how you get a case number. Our approval notice was dated Februar 27th and we got the hard copy March 7th.

We still haven´t heard anything. Does the petitioner get a letter again?

I really hope we are not in security checks again?

Or do you get stuck in security checks every time when you got stuck in them once?

    - I hope not!

We are so ready to finally get married!

  11. Hello everyone,

my fiance (US) and I are just starting on the affidativ of support. He just talked to his supervisor who told him that they are not authorized to sign a letter for his proof of employment.

He needs to get it through a webpage called theworknumber.com.

    I find this very funny.

Has anyone here ever heard of anything like that?

Does it count for the affidativ of support?

Thanks for any answers. I love this forum!

  12. :dance::dance::dance:

Even though I haven´t been in your club a very long time I am happy to announce: we are approved!!!!

I got a phonecall at 2 in the morning and my fiance told me he found it in his mailbox.

There weren´t any updates on the uscis website and there wasn´t any email. Very typical for USCIS.

The funny thing is that we could have already known when we had our engagement party in Germany on March 7th. Oh well, I am just so happy.

I´ve been reading this thread since Decemeber and I will keep reading it. I hope that at some point even Sara will make it out of here and it will stop existing. Nobody deserves to wait for that long, be apart from their loved ones and be so uncertain about their future.
