  1. Hello Fellow VJ Members!!

I have a question and I can't seem to get a clear answer. My fiance will be traveling to the US on the K1 visa in June and we plan to get married in July. While we were waiting for the interview, a consulate officer told the room that it would be difficult to travel internationally for the next 2 years. Understandably, my fiance is worried that he will not be able to return to visit his family and friends in Brazil for the next 2 years. I know there is a form that can be sent requesting permission to travel before the green card is issued, but is this only for emergencies? AND will it really take 2 years for him to be able to travel without this form?

    Thanks for your help!!

  2. Has anyone had a medical exam for the fiance visa in Rio de Janeiro? My fiance is scheduled to have one in mid April and we were wondering what exactly the exam consists of. I know they do a blood test, but is this only for HIV? Is there a mandatory drug test, too? Chest X rays? We're just trying to be as prepared as possible, as we have tended to be a little nervous throughout this process :) Any info would help... thanks guys!

  3. Ok, so on Wednesday we got 2 emails: The first in Portuguese, saying that it will take 2 to 3 weeks for them to receive our packet, the second (sent at the exact same time) in English saying they HAVE our papers and the interview is April 30th! ####### is going on there? So, keep emailing and see what answers you get. I'm so relieved they didn't lose our file, but seriously, they need to get their act together and not give us all heart attacks!!

  4. Ok, so yesterday I was worried that my fiance had not yet received any paperwork from the embassy in Rio. I finally got through (via email of course) to the consulate in Rio de Janeiro and was told that as of today, our packet HAS NOT YET BEEN RECEIVED! The NVC sent it out on March 3, so it has been 2 weeks. I followed up with the NVC, and they said that once it has been sent, it is out of their hands and they can't help me. I've looked at similar timelines, and it seems like the embassy in Rio usually receives the packet within 3 to 5 days! Can anyone give me advice on this! I'm so afraid that our stuff got lost in the mail!!

  5. Hi all! So, I spoke with the NVC and happily, my Brazilian fiance's petition was forwarded to the American consulate in Rio on March 3. Buuuut, he has not received any paperwork since then! Isn't that the next step? Even more fun...I spent all of the 2 hours between 130 and 330 Brazil time (the only time someone in immigration will talk to me) trying to get a person on the phone today but I couldn't even get through! It was busy, busy, busy the whole time! So, can anyone give us advice? Is my fiance supposed to receive papers in the mail? How long does this usually take? I'm just concerned that it has been 2 weeks and we haven't heard anything (I know...we're so spoiled)!! THANKS GUYS!!!
