  1. Well after checking, double checking, and triple checking my husbands AOS paperwork I thought everything was in order. I've just realized for the expiration date question on the I485 I put his K-1 expire date, not the I-94. The paperwork was received by USCIS but is not yet in their system. Should I resend the corrected I-485? Will I get an RFE if I don't? I'm so mad at myself and I want to make sure my mistake doesn't hold up his AOS. Any ideas? Thanks!

  2. My fiance will hopefully be making the move to the US sometime this summer if all goes well with the visa. He had asked me about who he might have to notify in the UK before he moves. I know he was concerned that if we ever decided to move to the UK at any point in the future if he hasn't been making contributions to things like health care and retirement, would we be able to claim any benefits. Any help from someone who has been there done that would be really appreciated.

  3. Don't worry, it'll all come together. This board has honestly been the only thing that has kept me straight. Read all the guides and even the embassy information on here. That's all I did for months and then when we finally got our approval we had a pretty good idea of what to expect next.

I'm just concerned about how long it will take for the police certificates etc. When did you submit and when were you approved?

Congratulations on your approval! I don't think it takes too long for a police certificate in the UK. Here is some information on how to obtain one:

    Police Certificate.

Go to http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp or call 0845 6013999 (Office hours are 8:30-16:30, Monday to Friday).

U.K. police certificates are considered valid for 12 months from the date of issuance.

    Also, I'd visit this page:

    http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...&cty=London

It has all the embassy information and packet 3 contents.

  4. Hi everyone. My fiance and I just received our NOA2 approval email this week so we are now getting all the paperwork ready for when packet 3 arrives. He asked me about the timing of the medical and interview and I wasn't entirely sure. Can he book his medical appointment and interview for the same day? He's from around Manchester and we're trying to avoid him having to travel to London more than once (we are saving all the money we can for his move to the states!). Any help would be appreciated! :)

  5. Thanks :) The last updated date is currently showing as today so I guess that does count as a 'touch' :)

I've had lot going on the last little while I really wasn't expecting to hear anything for a while longer so now feel entirely unprepared for the interview part, so better get my stuff together asap just in case! Eek

  6. Oh, and I take it that's what you all mean when you say a touch??

Glad you can finally see your status online! Actually, when we say "touch" we are referring to the last updated date when you log into your USCIS account to check your status. I know my last updated date stayed at 01/08/2009 for almost the entire process but then one day I logged on and it said 04/16/2009 as the last updated date. 5 days later we got our approval email! It looks like you filed not too long after we did so keep checking for those touches and fingers crossed for a fast approval for you!

  7. Congratulations!! I'm starting to worry a bit because we had a "touch" yesterday and I thought for sure that would be the approval but as of right now I haven't received an email or an update to our status on-line. I'm really trying not to panic!

Lots of people get approval without the system ever emailing or updating. I've been religiously checking my mail every day, just incase! :)

Good point! I just saw those approvals that went through yesterday and it seemed like they all received an email. I should have known that mine would end up being one of the ones that wouldn't receive anything until the hard copy comes through snail mail. I'm just so scared of getting an RFE or something so I'm being paranoid. I must have checked over our paperwork a 1000 times before I mailed it in!

I hear you. If we end up getting an RFE after all this time, I'm going to tear my hair out...;)

I noticed one of you is from England...what part, if you don't mind my asking? Mark is from England, as well.

Still no word on the visa, no status update, no email. I'm praying our approval will be in the mail when I get home from work today!

My fiance Scott is from Manchester. Really a great city, I just went over to visit in March and had a fantastic time.

No way! Mark is in Huddersfield, which is like 45 min or so outside of Manchester. I'm going over May 10th-18th. It will be my first time going over.

Just keep checking that mailbox...it'll show up some day when you least expect it, and then you'll be able to celebrate...:)

That's awesome! You are really going to love it. I can't wait to go back for another visit. Also, I just got some great news, our approval email just came through!! That's 5 days after it was touched.

I'm sure yours will come through quickly and we can celebrate together!

  8. *keeping fingers crossed for you* - a touch is a great thing, I hope they keep touchin' that file for you!!

Btw, our status on the USCIS site still says NOA-1/pending, no updates or anything - we found out about our NOA-2 in a letter. In addition, the NVC "has no record" of our file (according to their automated system), and yet we got a letter from them last week saying that our case was forwarded to London. So it's anyone's guess how these places do things, one hand not knowing what the other one is doing and so on.

Wow! I knew the system was flawed but really just wow! That's what is so frustrating, people are being as patient as possible waiting to be with their loved ones and we can't even rely on the system for accurate information.

I'm just going to keep checking my mail box each day with new hope that one of these days our approval will be in there waiting for us.

Good luck to everyone on their journey and I have to say we are one strong group of people to be going through all this to be with the ones we love. Here's wishing fast approvals to all my fellow VJ'ers!

  9. We filed on 01/06 had one touch on 01/08 then nothing until last week. We received a touch on 04/16 and I was really hoping this would be our approval (especially since so many Jan filers were approved on that day) but I haven't received an email, a case status update, or approval by mail. I'm starting to worry that I've gotten my hopes up for nothing. :crying:

Can anyone shed some light on what else this touch may have been for? Thanks!

  12. Thanks for all the responses and support! I took the "honesty is the best policy" route and explained exactly how we met when I submitted the paperwork and after reading all the responses I'm so glad I went with my instincts. This entire process is so unique, and no one can possibly understand it unless they have gone through it themselves which is why I'm so grateful for this board. Thanks everyone!

  13. I have heard that meeting someone through a family member or friend could be frowned upon and I'm wondering if the way my fiance and I met could hurt our chances. My dad moved to England years ago and became friends with my fiance, well my dad moved back to the states and my fiance came to visit him here and that's when I first met him. Will that be looked down upon? I'm thinking it really shouldn't matter but I've heard otherwise and now I'm a little concerned. Any thoughts?

  14. Hi all! First I wanted to say how incredibly helpful this board has been. I'm a US citizen madly in love with my British fiance. When we fell in love I had no idea what to expect when it came time for us to discuss the ins and outs of him moving here. I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of information on the net and this website was the only one I found that broke things down in simple terms. And reading so many great stories on the forum really kept my spirits up and made me realize that doing this on my own without a lawyer was completely possible. It also made me feel "normal", as most of you have probably experienced, others view our relationship with quite a bit of skepticism. Luckily my family has been incredibly supportive and my fiance Scott and I have very strong relationship (and some whopping phone bills!). Today was the big day, I sent our paperwork to the Vermont Service Center and our fingers are firmly crossed that this will be a smooth journey.
