Finally my fiancee received his visa today. I thank God for the help and patience he gave me through this difficult process. Also thank you to all vj memebers especially Akua.
All I can tell people going through the embassy in Ghana is to expect the unexpected. They can frustrate to the nonsense degree. lol. Wish u all the best in ur process.

Hi I am a U.S citizen, and i got married yesterday to my long time lover and friend, she is a UK citizen and she was studying in the US on an F-1 student Visa, sponsored by her family, and i want her to become a US citizen, how should i go about it, I have no idea about these processes ? We got married in India by the way, we went for a vacation as i am an Indian descent myself .I am an OCI card holder, We are in India right now
I think she can still come here on the student visa since she is not residing in India but went there with u only for vacation. I think you should just calm down and come back together when ur vacation ends just as you left. For adjustment of status as a result of ur marriage during ur vacation, u should talk to an attorney when u come back from vacation. They can give u better advise on what to do.
I don't think a lot of people didn't understood ur post.

hi everyone my fiance used usps to mailed me documets i need for my second interview but i still havent recieved them through my post office box ,can i make her scaned it and email it so i can print it out and present it at the embassy will it be accepted ?the document contians a notery letter and bills ,your advice will be appreciated .
Let her resend it using USPS standard 5 days delivery. You need original signature for documents that require signature. I have been using USPS 5 DAYS DELIVER WHICH COST $27.00 to send documents to my fiancee. He gets them on time. Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone,
I did my interview today at the Lagos Consulate and I was denied, the reason:
"You are already legally married to the petitioner, therefore you are not entitled to a visa intended for a fiance"
My story goes thus,I truly got married to my fiancee in December,2007 and our son arrived almost a year later.we decided to file for a K-1 visa because we were advised that it's faster even though we were actually married.Somehow the CO suspected we are legally married(don't know how he knew)and he refused my visa petition.Pls VJers advise us on what to do.Do we start a fresh K-3 petition. If yes, should it be right away?OR what????
I will really appreciate your contribution,I'm really confused.
You have to file for marriage visa. I'm not sure how they call it but i believe its CR-1. I think you can file it right away with no problem. Sorry that u wasted all this time for the wrong visa petition.

Can anyone tell me if the Ghana embassy accepts a co-sponsor for K-1s?
Thanks!
Yes Ghana embassy accepts co-sponsor for K-1 visa

My guess would be that the Embassy is not concerned with your female roommate, but is concerned with the male receiving his mail at your address, because... they think he's your boyfriend. They may suspect that since (1) you are poor enough to want a roomate (2) there is a guy probably living there... may be you have a boyfriend and you two are making money off the K-1 visa applicant.
Crazy? Yes, but possible explanation.
If that is what they think then its ridiculous because we provided them with letters and post cards we exchanged when i was living back home in 2001. They definately see in those letters that he was my boyfriend even before I thought of moving to New York. And about the roommate, I don't see why they should have a problem when we are not sleeping in the same room but each person has her own room. A lot of people share apartment in New York so this is not new plus it's just waste of money to me to stay in a 2 bed room apartment all by myself. If they are susupicious because my roommate is doing someone a favor then I think it would have been better for them to show up at our apartment at 3:ooam anytime to see if i'm sharing a room with another guy. Even the congressman's assistant who helped send the email said she shares apartment with someone
Thanks rika60607 for your possible explanation to why they might be doing this.

Thanks for ur suggestions Lily1. I contacted my congressman this morning. They sent an email to the embassy and attached a copy of my letter with my timeline on it. I'm praying to hear good news soon. I definately can not wait until Febraury 11.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if its illigal to share address with someone under the Immigration law? The following is what my fiancee and I are dealing with at the US embassy in Ghana:
At his second interview the consular told him she was satisfied with everything except issues with my address. According to them, background check showed that I never lived at the address I was living at with my sister when i sent the petition. I wrote a letter and explained to them that I was sharing a room with my sister and added copies of mails that I received while living there in addition to copies of my tax return which i filed using the same address.
My fiancee went back yesterday for his 1pm appointment. He wasn't seen until after 5pm, they just took the evidence and asked him to go back at 8am this morning because they were closing. He went this morning and now they are asking about someone receiving mails at my address. I now share 2 bed room apartment with a friend which i moved in early October( this is where my fiancee will be living with me until we find our own place later). My apartment mate's friend is a private home health aid who stays with the family he takes care off in New Jersey. He has his own apartment but because he barely comes home he diverted his mails to our home so that my apartment mate can open his mails and pay his bills for him. Now, the consular wants me to write a letter telling them who this person is since he shares address with me. They did not ask about my apartment mate who is a female. I have been wondering if the immigration law prohibits people from sharing address with others. Everything about this back and fort thing is ridiculous to me.
We have made plans to get married December 16th and now they want him to bring that letter February 11.
Does anyone know how i can change the appointment date? I'm so sick and tired of the whole address thing.
Sometime I feel like the people at the embassy never lived in America. I live in New York and people do share apartments. What is the crime in sharing address. I just can't wait to be done with that embssy.

My friend had an interview today at the embassy in Lagos and she did not get the visa base on the fact of not having enough documents. she showed the phone bills, emails, letters, cards ,western union receipts, pics of their marriage. what next ?
What did the consular tell your friend? Was she asked to bring more evidence or was denied flat out? I think if you say more about exactly what happened then people can suggest what steps she should take next.
They told her that she does not have enough documents and then they did not tell her to bring anythinlg else.
That's not reasonable. Tell her to check the slip they gave her. If they sure didn't write anything on it then the petitioner should contact the embassy to find out what's going in. They may have something in their system to tell her what to do next since they didn't deny her but told her that she doesn't have enough evidence.

Hi I need clarification on which type of form a co-sponsor has to fill for K1. My friend has a co- sponser but she doesn't know which form the co-sponser has to fill. Do they all fill form I-134? Please help.
Correct, both the petitioner and the co-sponsor will both need to fill out the I-134 + supporting documents. Good luck!
Thanks very much for the help

My fiance just got his visa approved today!!!!! God is so faithful
 He stated that they were so nice to him at the embassy, this must be the beginning of new things in that place, He was only asked a few questions like "where kind of work does your SO do for a living?, Who are these in the pictures, what is her uncle's name, have you met her parents and have they approved your relationship? describe where the pictures were taken? he said he didn't even spend more than 5 mins during this interview, the lady went inside and came back with a paper for him to go pick his visa up next week. Thanks for everyone who have been of tremendous assistance during this phase of our journey, counting on your assistance later and for all that is still waiting, yours is the next testimony in Jesus Name. I have been praising God all morning.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure you change your address with USCIS the earliest possible. I think this can be done online (Not sure, I said I think). and write a letter explaining honestly what happened. They are just messing with your brain.
Thanks Teranga. I'm going to call and change the address now.
Please check to see if you can do the change of address online and print the receipt.
Thanks very much. I did the change of address online and I pritned the receipt. USCIS also sent e-mail confirming that the change of address has gone through.

I figured it will be good to share this with all of you since I've not come across this issue any where on this site.
My fiancee had a 2nd interview appointment in Ghnan to bring additional evidence. The consular took them and said everything was fine except that they wanted a letter from me explaining why I used address that I've never lived at. This came to me as a surprise because I have lived at the address i used for the petition until recently that I moved out. The issue is I was living with my sis who was sharing apartment with someone. While living there i still maintained my parents address and received mails there because I knew I would move out once i found my own place. I only used my sister's address for mails that needed prompt response like the K1 pettion so that I didnt have to wait one or two weeks to pick them up at my parents' place. I think this came up because most of my evidence had my parents address.
I have written the letter and I'm gonna get a letter from the guy who has the lease in his name stating how long I have lived there.
Now my issue is I didn't change my address with USCIS when I moved from my sister's place ending of september becasue I thoguht the case was in Ghana and they will correspond with my fiancee and not directly with me. Does anyone think that its going to be a problem that I didn't change my address with USCIS or notify Ghana embassy of my current address? I stated in the letter that I moved out ending of September.
Any suggestion will help.

Any chance you could contact friends and family and see if they have any photos from back then?
Thanks guys for the help. I'm going to have my parents and his parents write a letter stating that they knew that we were in a relationship at the time. I don't think we have any pictures because it was the beginning of the relationship plus I didnt have a camera then. Those days u had to pay a photographer to take pictures of u and it wasn't cheap being that we were poor freshmen in College. I will get that and add the letters I wrote to my fiancee then. Once again, thanks everyone especially Myra--you've been so helpful to me in this process.

Hi everyone,
My fiancee had his interview in Ghana this morning. From what he tells me everything went well except that the consular wants him to bring evidence from when we first started going out. This was 2001 and I came here 2002. I only have about 2 letters from 2001 and nothing else. I need suggestions as to what else i can do in relation to this because my fiancee said the consular wrote that he should bring letters, pictures and emails. We do not have any pictures and emails before 2002. Please help. He has to go back to the embassy on october 27th.

I downloaded forms for my fiance on the Ghana Embassy website. Filled them out for him, printed them, then scanned them into a PDF and emailed the complete forms to him for his signature. I had to print and scan them because you cannot save them to your computer. It worked fine.
Great tip!
Thanks everyone. I will just print copies and have him fill them out with the correct address. Really appreciate ur help

My fiancee recently picked up his packets but made mistake with filling the forms. Instead of filling the forms with his old address(the one i used for everything) he used his new address. He just moved from Accra to Kumasi. My problem is that in case we are put in AP(God for bid) and they do field investigation at Kumasi, no one really know me there so it might be difficult to get the information they need and might affect us. Does any one know if you can ask for another forms? I'm trying to aviod the whole address change. It could slow down things as well. Any help will be appreciated.
