  1. My fiancee, Galina, has her interview today (technically, tomorrow for her) we are both really excited and nervous at the same time!!!! Our hope and prayer is that everything is in order and we didn't overlook anything! With any luck, she could have her Visa the following day!!! Please pray that everything goes well this evening!!!!!!

I will keep everyone updated as soon as I find out how everything goes!!!

    (F)(L)

Here I am again to update everyone!!! Galina went for her interview and found that the Embassy failed to mention that we need form DS-156 (This form can be made online PDF and printed out) so, she had to go back on July 14 to turn in this additional form. Anyway, when her name was called she went to the window and they asked her to sit aside and wait some more. All the other people who were behind her went through the line and she was getting really nervous at this point!

Then, once again, they called her name and explained that someone had misplaced her file and they were looking for it. They apologized for making her wait and handed her the long awaited Visa!!!!

Now I am trying to get the money needed for a plane ticket! I found a good deal with British Airways for $1,083.32 But she must wait till Sept. 6th to fly! So we have waited this long another month will not hurt us! lol We are planning the wedding for Sept. 26 You can visit our wedding website at: http://www.mywedding.com/galinaandlanceforever/index.html

  2. Thank you everyone! I have an update to offer! Sadly Galina did not obtain the Visa today, but that is because the Embassy did not send all the necessary documents in Packet 4!!!

They failed to attach DS156 but did include DS256K. DS156 now, must be filled out online, then printed off and turned in to the Consulate. So, as I understand it, the Consulate Officer told Galina everything was in order and looked good except for DS156. She must print this form off and submit it next Tuesday and then she should have the Visa in hand!!!!!

  4. :help: Sorry, I know that there are many posts on here regarding this issue... but I have searched for an answer to a few questions and have yet to find an answer.

I am about to send off the I-134 to my fiancee for the interview she has on the 7th of July (L) . I already know I need a cosponsor and I have asked my brother-in-law to do this, he said he may be willing to help us out but he has some concerns. I will list them below if anyone can help with a solid answer to these questions it would help tremendously!

    1) should (God forbid) something happen to me and I were to die :o , would the cosponsor become financially responsible?

    2) If we were to get a divorce :o would that end the obligation of the cosponsor?

    3) Is there a statute of limitation on the obligations by the cosponsor? Ex. after "10" years the cosponsor is no longer obligated etc.

    4) does the cosponsor fill in the "gap" that the sponsor (me) cannot financially meet? Ex. Let's say I am $3,000 short of meeting the requirement is the cosponsor obligated for the difference or the entire amount of the 125% of Poverty level???

A speedy answer would be greatly appreciated to these 4 questions, as I am trying to get everything prepared to mail ASAP!!!!!!!

  5. Hey fellow VJ'rs,

Got some wonderful news today! Received NOA2 and I am so excited but I am also a little confused! As I understand it, after the USCIS approves the petition it goes to the NVC (National Visa Center) then to the Embassy/Consulate. The letter I received says: "The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate. Please contact the consulate with any questions about Visa issuance, ..."

According to this, it sounds like it is going straight to the Consulate! Oh, it also says "Approval Notice: Valid from 06/03/2009 to 10/03/2009

Does this mean that we have until 10/03/09 to receive the Visa from the Consulate? This is a little confusing!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

    Thanks so much!

  6. i just got off the phone with NVC this morning and told me the magic word"CASE COMPLETE!"

im so so happy.. after being stuck at NVC for a very very long time...

now im just waiting for my interview... been told that i might get July interview.. great if it could be June..hehehe :-)

    thanks guys..

VJ was such a very very big help for me with this journey...

I was looking at your timeline, you've had a very long wait! Congratulations on the good news!!! I hope you get the July interview!!!

  7. hey guys, I am am very anxious about my application for k1. i received my noa1 on march 23. there has been no touch. m getting a little anxious now. my time line isn't saying anything, because there is not enough info. should i call uscis? i hate this whole waiting period! grr

Nope, no need to worry yet! I filed for a K-1 Visa on January 8th, 2 days ago I finally received some news... an RFE, (simply forgot to check a box on the I-129F form) So like the others said, this can, and most likely will be, a long process that can take up to 6 months at the USCIS.

I was about to pull my hair out after not hearing anything at all! So, you will probably hear this a lot, have patience, the government is slow in their processing.

I wish you the best and hope you hear something soon!

    -Lance

  8. I don't know if these means anything or not, but they supposedly are doing an "inquiry" for us. Since we aren't in the on line system (somehow that's "normal"), I always get transferred to a "higher level" of customer service. They can see some details about your petition (address, birthdays, names, etc). I complained last week and the lady offered to do an inquiry for me. After holding for a while, she gave me a long reference number.

I called back the other day to check the status of my case, got connected again to 2nd level customer service, and he said, oh hey, you have an inquiry pending! You should hear something in a couple of weeks.

    For whatever it's worth...

You have the same NOA1 date as me. There are like 8 of us with the same date on the IGOR's list. Maybe all of ours is in the same box and will get worked now if they are digging for yours..

Well, a girl can dream cant she?

Feel free to dream away! :star: I hope you are right and everyone else who has the same date are being worked now! It was such a relief to get an RFE at least now I know they are looking at the application! :D

  9. Its funny how things work out! Yesterday I contacted the USCIS because I have not heard a single word regarding our petition, they couldn't tell me anything more than what is on their website. Today, however, I received an RFE. As crazy as it sounds, I am happy to receive it!!!

Page 3 of I-129F Part C, other information, question 2: was left unchecked. I didn't check anything because the question pertains to Military service, since I am not, nor have been, in Military Service, the question should not apply to me! I guess they think differently!

Anyway, they need my signature and for me to check yes or no on the blue form they sent me. So I am going to make a copy of everything, check "no" sign my name and return it tomorrow!

If that is the only thing that is wrong, then we are doing good!

  10. Contacted USCIS today to get an update regarding the application filed for my fiancee. We filed January 12 at the Vermont Service Center, it was received the 14th and I received NOA1 on the 17th. That is the last thing I have heard!

So I decided to call and try to find out what is going on... that was futile! All I got was a a bunch of legalese read to me from their website which I could have read online for free, instead of using my Cellphone minutes.

Basically, I was told that since it is still within the 6 month time frame, I should simply wait and call back if I don't hear anything after 6 months!

What makes me so angry is that there are applications that were filed after ours and they have already been approved and sent off to the NVC!!!

Is anyone else feeling like they are getting a run-around?

  11. Thanks to a new law, Canada will bestow citizenship Friday on what its government believes could be hundreds of thousands of unsuspecting foreigners, most of them Americans.

The April 17 amendment to Canada's Citizenship Act automatically restores Canadian nationality to many people forced to renounce it when they became citizens of another country. It also grants citizenship to their children.

The Canadian government doesn't know the precise number or location of individuals affected by the legislation. But it believes most are U.S. citizens, a spokeswoman for Canada's immigration office said. U.S. Department of Homeland Security records show 240,000 Canadians were naturalized in the U.S. from 1948 to 1977; the new law fixes problems that occurred during those years.

To reach that amorphous group of beneficiaries, the Canadian government has turned to YouTube. It's running an ad there titled "Waking up Canadian," in which a man awakens on April 17 to a room festooned with red-and-white Canadian flags. He's met by a welcoming committee consisting of two stuffed plush moose, a hockey player, and a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Eligible individuals automatically become Canadian citizens. But they don't get proof of that citizenship unless they apply for it, meaning other countries -- including those that allow people to be citizens of only one nation -- won't be alerted, according to the immigration office spokeswoman. Those people also may renounce their citizenship rights, she said.

Canada is using YouTube to tout a new law granting citizenship to unsuspecting foreigners, many of whom are Americans.

The citizenship bonanza is the byproduct of a decadeslong struggle by a motley group of people who claim they were unfairly denied or lost their Canadian nationality. Canadian families who crossed the border in 1947 to 1977 to have their babies in a U.S. hospital found those children weren't recognized as Canadians unless the families registered them with the government. Some foreign brides of Canadian World War II servicemen lost their citizenship if they stayed out of the country for a decade or more.

Then there are the Canadian Mennonites who moved to Mexico in the 1920s to the 1960s. When their children and grandchildren returned to Canada, many found their nationality unclear.

Some such cases languished in litigation for years. Others surfaced in 2007, when new U.S. rules requiring passports for travel between Canada and the U.S. uncovered significant numbers of people who thought they were Canadian, but weren't. The old rules were "quite intricate," said Bill Janzen, an immigration lobbyist in Ottawa for the Mennonite Central Committee of Canada.

The new law offers citizenship to many individuals now in limbo. It also stops the previous practice of granting citizenship in perpetuity to children of Canadians born abroad, limiting eligibility to children of parents born in Canada.

  12. Hi there...I could not find any January K1 filler at Vermont Service Center...we all know they are working really slow now...Califonia was slower before, but now they are doing pretty good...anyway I hope it takes 4 months to get noa2..

I filed a K-1 in January at the Vermont Service Center! I check for updates all the time but my case still says "pending" 4 months would be a blessing!!!!! However; I fear it may take 5/6. But I am really hoping and praying for four months also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Just wanted to let everyone know, today (01/08/2009) I sent in the I-129F package to the Vermont Filing Center!

We are very excited to finally have the process started! Now we have exchanged the stress of getting everything ready for this; to the stress of waiting for everything to be approved!

I intend to fill in the time-line to keep everything up to date and will let everyone know if it all goes well or if there are any problems along the way! :D

  14. Hello everyone,

I have been pouring through the information on this site and there is one thing I have not yet found. (Either I am overlooking it in the forums or it does not exist.

I do not earn enough to qualify for sponsoring my fiancee :crying: and will need a cosponsor. My brother-in-law said he may be willing to cosponsor depending on the requirements. I have seen where the cosponsor needs to fill out form I-134 (along with myself) and send it in.

My question is this: does the cosponsor also need to send in a copy of the last 2 years tax returns, or is the I-134 sufficient by itself?

My fiancee, just yesterday, mailed me (via FedEx) the G-325A, Letter of intent to marry and Passport-style photos to me. They will arrive around this time next week. I have everything filled out on my end and am simply waiting on the IRS to mail me a copy of my past 2 years Tax Transcripts. Once these are received I will be ready to send in the I-129F package.

So to sum everything up: What are the exact requirements for the Cosponsor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,

    -Lance
