  1. It would be foreign income, Hapy.

OK so I was looking at the foreign earned income form and I don;t think it makes sense for unemployment benefits. If my husband is getting EI isn't that considered unearned income? He no longer has an employer...or should I put his previous employer that he was working for prior to his move. I am completely confused here!

  2. Hey all!

I am in the process of doing my US tax return, mu husband is currently receiving EI benefits. How do I list that on my US tax return, do I include it under the unemployment insurance benefits even though its not US state unemployment benefits. This has me confused!

I already know I need to file an IRS form for his foreign bank accounts over 10,000 and claim the intrest from this money under the bank intrest part of the tax return.

Thanks for your help in advance!

  3. Today i received the letter from the USCIS saying

"WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"

"It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to permanent resident status"

    "Congratulations"

    YEAH!! Congrats!!

  4. Well, we FINALLY found a local doctor who woulkd transcribe Duncan's vax sheet from his medical in TO back in March. I spoke to him on Friday night (yes, a Dr. working ona a FRIDAY NIGHT!!!) and then I called again yesterday afternoon to find out if we could just come in, and I spoke with THE Dr. again!!! He said we could come in at anytime, so we did. Here we are, $98 later, and we have the transcription in hand with the interview on Monday! I'm going to put togwether our list of what we're taking to the interview a little later, and will post it hoping some of you will have great insight (good or bad) as to what we're planning on taking next Monday.

  9. Hi everyone, we are finally married

So after getting married, applying for SSN, importing the car etc, we are now filing for AOS and need a lil bit of help, there are some "unclear" questions (or maybe it is just unclear to us .. lol)

1: So on form G-325a, there is the following question

    - "This form is submitted in connection with an application for:", (and we have the following choices) : Naturalization, Status as permanent Resident, Other (specify) -> 129f petition .. we are not too sure which one to pick

    - Also, who should be filing out this form ? The US citizen or the Canadian citizen ?

    2: on form I-485

    - They are asking for the "A#" .. Is it the one at the back of the I94 in my passport ?

    - They also ask for the non immigrant visa number .. which number is it on the visa ?

    3: on form I-864

    - At question 21, there seem to be a conflict in what they are asking .. they ask for our household size, and specify (do not count anyone twice) .. So if we enter 1 for "Persons you are sponsering in this affidavit", then 1 for "yourself", then 1 for "if you are currently married, enter 1 for your spouse" .. That makes 3 in total but we are only 2 .. so how should we go about filing this one ?

Thanks very much in advance for your help everyone :)

CONGRATS on the marriage!!! Sorry I don't remember which number on my husbands visa the visa number is :( If no answer by the time I get home from work I will look at his for you :)

  10. Hi all

If you are a permanent resident and you work your required 40 quarters, are you eligible to collect social security and are you eligible for medicare, or do you have to become a citizen to receive these benifits?

    Thanks

Once you have 40 quarters you will be eligible for retirement at age 62 under your own Social Security work history, you will also be eligible for Medicare at age 65. You do not have to be a US citizen to receive these benefits, just lawfully permitted in the United States. However, you do not have to have your own work history (40 quarters) to be eligible for Social Security, at age 62 if your spouse is collecting Social Security under their work record than you can file under their work history and receive what is called a spousal benefit.

Rules are completely different for Disability benefits. For disability you have to have work 5 out of the last 10 years and be found medically disabled under the terms of the law. For Medicare under disability you have to have been established as disabled for 2 years before you are eligible for Medicare benefits. You can not collect a disability benefit under your spouses earnings record unless you are age 50 and your spouse is deceased.

    I hope this helps you.

  11. Quick question for those of you who have received your EAD and had to send the information to Canada for unemployment compensation.

Did you have to send it to anyone in particular? My husband has been completing the cards he has been getting but they are not to anyone in particular. Plus do they back date the money from when he stopped working or does the money start from when he was approved for the EAD? Just curious, thanks for any info :)

  12. AP and EAD approved Sept 21, 2009 WOO HOO!!!! Now my husband can plan our trip to Canada for October!!

Funny thing about this approval the e-mail was sent at 11:51PM....USCIS working overnight shift now.....LOL
