  1. Hi guys,

So our case was completed at the NVC and I just got an email telling us the interview date! My wife hasn't received an actual physical letter from them yet, I was just wondering how that worked (and if there are ways to speed it up). The interview date is in two months, and she has to do a medical before that? I know there are certain sites for the medical, do you just call up any one of those doctors and schedule an appointment?

Also did any of you not have your complete medical records? Like vaccinations from childhood? Was it an issue? Any advice on what to expect at the medical (besides what's already on immigrantvisas.com)?

    Thanks!

  2. OK folks, I spoke to another person at NVC who seemed very knowledgeable.

What he told me is that the police certificate is not required for people from Pakistan and that my wife should take it with her to the interview. So that's settled.

As for the birth certificate, even though I have an official copy (not photocopy) of the birth certificate issued from the same place that issues the Urdu-language ones, he thought it was border-line and that 'that might not fly.' So, yeah, gonna get my wife to send the original.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Also is it just me or are the NVC operators some of the most patient and helpful call-center people you've ever talked to? I've never talked to any company's employees who were so consistently nice.

  3. you should read through the DS230 instructions to make sure you are not missing anything else. did you not get a link to it before you sent the form to NVC?

you need certified translations of any non-English documents in addition to the original/certified copy

all of that information is in the link we posted

Wow overwhelming response for originals! Thanks for the quick replies.

One quick question: do you think translations from the appropriate issuing authorities count? Because otherwise I have to get my wife's ORIGINAL birth certificate mailed all the way from Pakistan and I'd be very worried about it getting lost!

That's true, I've read all those pages, my point is that the specific wording seems to allow a English language version that's officially released from the same appropriate authority to work simultaneously as a translation and an original.

I'm going to go home and see what the translation looks like and says. If it seems original enough I might take my chances with the NVC.

  4. Today I called the NVC and the lady said it was ok if I didn't send in a police certificate as the station in Pakistan won't make us one til we have a letter from the embassy, and that my wife should take the police certificate to her interview.

BUT she said something which has me worried: that I need to send in the ORIGINAL birth and marriage certificates with my DS230 I+II. Really? The originals? That doesn't seem right. What has been your experience?

It says "original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity)."

So if I have official translations of the documents, can I just send those?

  5. Sigh there's too much conflicting information!

    Is this correct:

    -AOS bill paid

    -AOS sent in

    -IV bill paid

-NVC sends DS230 to beneficiary in Pakistan?

-she uses the letter to get a POLICE REPORT and sends me a copy? original?

-I send out already-filled DS230 part I and II and other documents + police report

    -NVC sends case to embassy?

What's the point of James' shorcuts if I still have to wait for the police report which can't be obtained unless you have a letter from the embassy? Am I missing something?

Someone tell me what my NEXT STEP is? I paid the IV bill. WHAT NOW?

  6. Hi, So I have already sent in my AOS packet, and have payed my IV bill. I have my DS230 barcode sheet printed, and I have all the papers.

Can I send it in? Should I send in Part II as well?

And I don't have a police report. We can't get one until the embassy sends a letter to my wife. When will that happen?

And when will my wife hear about when the medical examination will take place?

    I'm confused how this works!

Someone please explain the timeline at this point? Thanks.

  7. So, my relatives are (financially) sponsoring my wife, so they filled out a I-864. I am filling one out and I'm stuck on what to do for Q.8.

I am the person filing for her, but since I am a medical student and live solely on student loans I was not even planning on sending in any tax information.

    So:

    1) SHOULD I still send in tax info even with 0 income? and where on the form could I possibly interject that I'm a medical student, not living off the government or anything?

    2) What should I put in Q.8, "I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above." YES or NO?

    3) and if I do put NO, then do I put her as 1 under "Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit"?

    Help!

  8. ...
Hmm wow that's interesting. Has it worked for other documents? If you used it for your I130 then I hope for your sake they don't raise a fuss about it!

I don't have to send a marriage certificate again, but just some document that has my wife's date of birth on it. And I called up USCIS again and it looks like I can send just a photocopy of her ID or birth certificate.

  9. I can understand your furstration . You can translate documents yourself only requirement is that whoever translate it has to send a signed letter with it that he/she is fluent in both languages. I had sent for my N400 and I 130 before and they accepted it. Call again if you want to make sure and its possible some other rep at USCIS will give better answer. Good Luck

Thanks okay I've calmed down a bit... Really, you translated it yourself? Did you do that for the marriage certificate? Or what other document? And you just typed the translations in Word and printed them out?

  10. Ugh I am so worried and pissed right now. So now I need to send in some kind of proof of my wife's birth-date and I'm sure another certified ###### translation of the marriage certificate won't do and now I need a certified translation of her birth certificate with a letter from the translator and every single time I need a copy of ANYTHING I have to wait for my relatives to feed the ###### bribe-fed bureaucracy in Pakistan to trot out a simple translation and mail it in. I can't ###### just keep copies of the birth certificate or marriage certificate and have them translated here because I know of nowhere that does an Urdu to English translation and even then I'm not sure the USCIS won't expect another ###### I-130 or an entirely new application or take umbrage to the fact that I'm ###### sending in a correction pre-emptively without an RFE or that the useless people manning the telephones at USCIS haven't given me the wrong information completely when they sound so unsure of what do do about ANYTHING. Goddammit.

  11. In both of your cases call them on Monday, and talk to an operator, it is a lot easier to get through early in the day then mid-day.

I have same kind of situation., My wife's place of birth is incorrect on I130. I called number and California CS was busy so call was transferred to national customer service. Rep told me to send a signed letter for correction explainin the error. she could not tell me if I have to send new forms or just letter will be acceptable. Please share the address if you know to send the letter because she told me to send it to address which is on my latest notice of action.

    Here's whats on my NOA1

    USCIS California Service Center

    P.O. Box 30111

    Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-0111

  12. ...At the medical they will see what vaccinations your wife will need.
Thanks for the reply Mary. I know the vaccinations aren't necessarily the same but if anyone has info on what vaccinations they had to take I can figure out which ones are necessary across the board. I figure it will save some time later on, especially if they're multi-shot vaccinations, besides hep B.
  13. Oh I also have a couple questions about the DS230, guys.

And if so, what did you guys do about the police certificate? My wife tried and they said you cannot get a police certificate unless you get the letter from the embassy. Does that have to be sent in with the DS230 packet or can we send it in later?

Do I understand this correctly: my wife can send me a filled out DS230 now (besides the signature and the date) plus all the accompanying documents so I can send them in to the NVC from the US? I searched a lot but I couldn't find what documents exactly need to be submitted with the DS-230 packet. Also did you send certified translation of the birth and marriage certificates, or the originals?
