my husband wants to claim me on his taxes. the problem is i dont have a social security number yet because we just filed for the adjustment of status. the social security agent said we can go to the homeland security and ask them to extend my I-94 which has expired on august so that we can apply for a social security number.

do you have any idea?

Your K-1 Visa doesn't expire in August - your I-94 does.

You will be just fine submitting your AOS/EAD etc after the I-94 expires - before is always better, but after is OK too (sooner the better obviously). All you can do is wait for your marriage certificate and have everything else ready. Don't worry...

So others can learn from this - in many states what the OP has described is not uncommon - for whatever reason, it takes quite a while to get the marriage license recorded (sometimes days, while a couple of weeks is common).

In many states - it would be better to (once you're married) hand deliver the marriage license to your local County Clerk's Office (or which ever governing body handles marriages) and have them record it right then and there - Skipping the steps a marriage-officiant would do. In our case (in Texas) what would have taken a couple of weeks, we accomplished in a day.

You are required to marry your SO within 90 days of arriving in the U.S. in order to remain legal. You have done that. I don't think it will be a problem.

By the way: 4 weeks to get a marriage cert? Ouch! That sucks. Where on earth do you live?

we recieved our packet 3 a week ago and im waiting for police report to be done, it takes 2 weeks or more

so can i send the packet 3 without it then bring it with me in the interview, just to speed up the process

on january 27 , my us fiance recieved a letter saying nvc sent the k1 to the us embassy in tunis, we r waiting now for the consulate to recieve it, can we call the embassy to ask them or if we can send packet 3 in order to speed the process. thx in advance

im soooooooo huppy , hamdulillah, our visa was approved and my fiance recieved a letter on january 27 while we were talking online. it is saying that the NVC sent it to the embassy in tunis, i want to know what will happen after that.

The embassy will send PAcket 3 to ur fiance .

Have ur fiance gather documents for packet 3.

Packet 3 can be download online. it will show what will needed.
