Hello Everyone!

I am confused again! When I came to Boson,MA the man at immigration said to me i can start working as soon as i get me SSN. So i went and applyed at the local office and 2 weeks later I had a SSN card with a note on it saying FOR EMPLOYMENT ONLY.

This means I can work right? But i have read on here that i must have a EAD. I am applying for jobs right now and all they have asked for so far is that i have an SSN.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

when you go to the interview, and they approve you, you hand a form to the courier desk. The courier desk takes your details, circles your number to tap into the website, and the website is on there too. It does not show up on the website until it has left the embassy. In my case yesterday.

Today I got my email response from the consulate (called them first for PIN number to put in email), saw it on the tracking webiste as to be delivered tomorrow. I also got an text message to my mobile saying they would be delivered tomorrow.

From my experience I would reckon approval for two passports takes twice as long.

If you worry, call the embassy after 6 working days. They are responsive.

I am still waiting! I wish they had told us it would be longer than 3-5 days. I sold my car, my son has finished school, I gave up my job sooooooo i am sat in an empty house with my bags packed ready to go because when the told me 3-5 days I believed them.

Oh Well, I have become the most patient person ever from this process - think Positive! LOL

My fiance just got his packet 3 (YEA) this past week. While he was looking through the stuff he came across something that he wasnt sure about and I think I know, but I told him I would find out. He says the way it is written in the info about the med exam, that his whole family has to get one, but he is the only one coming over here. I told him I think that is only if they were coming too. Is this correct??? They dont need it, just him??

The medical is just for the person or people applying. There would be no need for anyone not applying to have a medical.

Finally I have notice that the passports are to be delivered tomorrow. I don't know if you are supposed to assume two take twice as long.

So, tomorrow they will be here. Just delighted they are out of the embassy.

It is worth noting that I called the expensive line, and emailed the consulate. I got the email around the same time it went up online as being passed to the courier.

Interview was 5th Oct.

Just happy. I have a present for my daughter a charm bracelet to celebrate the start of a new journey together. She has been real patient through all of this, but it is hard on children.

Congratulations on getting your Visas at last!!!

I really hope this doesnt hapen to me. We had our interveiw last week on Wednesday and was told we were approved and it would take 3-5 working days to receive our passports back.

All this up and down emotional waiting it soooooo fustrating for my 10 year old son and I, not to mention my fiance who is waiting for us.

Please could you tell me where you looked to find the update that told you that you would receive them?

You must have the medical before the interview. And i would advise that you try and have the medical at least a week before interview to ensure the Embassy have recieved it. I sceduled mine as soon as i got package 3.

The whole experience was a pleasant one although there was a little bit of waiting. I think some people have medical and interview on the same day but i dont know how this is possible and so stressful and may well delay the issue of your visa.

i too have been waiting 4+ weeks and dos cant even tell me if the embassy received our forms.

your story gives me hope tho

I cant see your dates on your timeline but if you have been waiting 4 weeks you can call the embassy and they should give you a ref number to email them with. You will then be able to request a status update. This is what i did.

Doh! My brain is going to explode!! Everytime i called the Embassy they told me in 4 weeks they could look into my case.

below, is part of the email they sent me.....30 days, 60 days they are all rolling in to one!! lol

How long is it taking for London to put the packet 3's into the system?

I am wondering because my fiance sent a new DS-157 on Fri. Sept 18, 09 (as per embassy's request). But he emailed the DS-157 to the embassy because the embassy asked for it in an email attachment. DOS is telling us that it is still not in the system. I am thinking the embassy is not quick enough updating their system...so I was wondering how long it is taking for packet 3's being put in the system from the time they are received by the embassy.

Right.....I have now been waiting for 4 weeks for my package 4. So, I called the embassy premium helpline again today.

Because i have been waiting 4 weeks, the nice man gave me an email address and a special reference number so i can ask for a status update directly and try and get some answers on why its taking so long.

I just wanted to let others know that this is the procedure. Only after 90 days will they give you a special reference number to have your questions answered. Before then, there is no point calling them really.

I wish i had known this before!

I have spoken to London Embassy a few times, they have told me it can take up to 4 weeks for the system to be updated. After 4 weeks, if they have not updated they can then look into your case for you and whats happening.

They said that they sent packet 3 on August 11th, but no status updates since then. We sent in the packet 3 forms about 2 weeks later via overnight. Do you think it's time to call the embassy's extortion line?

What is the DOS? and should i call them??

I returned all the forms needed for package 3 and the checklist, had my medicals too and it has now been 4 weeks since. I have called the 1.20per minute phone line on several occasions and everytime they say it takes the embassy 4 weeks to update anything. I wanted to make sure they even got my forms and checklist but they say they cant advise me of that!

Any advise from anyone would be fantastic. This last stretch is really fustrating and making me sad!

Infact........my package 3 forms were sent on the same day as you! and received by them the following day. Lets hope we here soon then. I had my interview already- did you?

Yes, you can call the DOS 202-663-1225 (press 1 then 0) until they say it has arrived at the consulate. Then call the DOS with it and inquire about progress.

so which site can we get the DS-156 AND the DS-156K? are those the only docs to send in for packet 3? we havent received the letter from the embassy though, ill prolly try calling them on monday as i looked up on DHL and they just received the package yesterday;

Sorry for all the unnecessary confusion.

First of all, the current versions of all visa forms can be obtained from the Department of State website at http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/forms/forms_1342.html

From there, you must follow the link to http://evisaforms.state.gov to fill out the DS-156. You must fill out the form on the web page—when you click Continue, the web application will generate a prefilled PDF version of the form including a unique bar code containing all the information on the form. You can then print and/or save the PDF generated by the web application.

The other forms (DS-156K and DS-230) can be downloaded and filled out on your own computer. The problem with the Department of State versions, as you discovered, is that they don't allow you to save the entries. I downloaded each of these forms and enabled saving. These forms—current versions, exactly the same as the DoS site except that saving is enabled—are available at the following URLs:
