Good Morning Everyone,

Quick update…had an interview on Sep. 18. The most pleasant experience ..The young lade Judge was extremely respectful. She asked me 6 questions for the test, 1 sentence to read and 1 sentence to write. Made me swear and asked me questions if I would bare ams ( if law requires)etc. I spent about 10 minutes in the office. then she handed me the letter where she recommends me fro citizenship and told me I should wait for the mail to see when is my oath ceremony !

Update: interview Sep 18….

I received a letter about the interview time and time. I suppose with generic statement asking to bring the following documents: passport, etc..and evidence of selective service..I suppose it is only for males since I haven't registered (nor required by law) for it.

Please share if you guys got the same request

Update: Scheduled for interview on August 11. 6 days later after receiving yellow letter. Not sure about the date yet!

It is very helpful. I was entered with 2 year GC. Had a son from my husband in 2010 and applied for ROC jointly. Never left USA for more than 3 weeks.

Thanks for the information. Lawyer told I should be fine as well. So I did file the application alone without a lawyer . I will keep you guys posted once I know when I am scheduled for the interview !

Checked the case status online and saw that they scheduled me for interview .Not sure about the date yet...

Here is my long story short ...

I applied for 10 year GC on marriage basis. I applied with my husband in November (filing jointly to remove conditions)

April 4 my husband died (my whole world went down)

April 11 I got mt GC approved. there was 7 day gap before my GC got approved. Honestly, at the moment I didnt really think of my GC since I had my whole life shifted 100 degrees to unknown direction.

Once the burial ceremony was completed and I got myself together. I did bring the case to the lawyer's attention who told me that at that point there is nothing I could have done.

Now I am little nervous bcs I don't know if they might deny me bcs of that fact....

Hello Everyone,

Wanted to let you know that I filed in June as well. Got my fingerprints pretty fast and have been waiting for 4 weeks for my interview letter. I received a yellow letter (dates August 6) stating that while reviewing my file they determined that I needed more documents to provide. Once they finish reviewing they will schedule me for the interview. Documents needed at the date of Interview: ID and all passports.....

Not sure what they are reviewing if all additional documents they need at the interview is my ID and passport...

Long story short , here goes my journey:

2009-Entered the US with Conditional Green Card

2010-Filed Jointly to Remove Conditions

2011- April 4, my husband dies unexpectedly (while waiting for the Green Card)

2011, April 11-receive Green Card in Mail .

2014-Almost 4 years since I have been to the States. I could not file for Citizenship earlier since my husband died.

Little concerned about 1 week gap (April 4-11)-I did send the letter to USCIS but as you all could tell my mental state was not right and I even didn't have enough time to realize what was going on with me.

Consulted with Several Lawyers afterwards who told me that 1 week gap is not the problem since my Green Card might have been approved earlier than April 11.

While filing the paperwork, should I send the letter stating all these or just wait until I am asked questions.

I intend to send the copies of my Tax Returns, where 3 of them will be joint ....

I have a question about my US citizenship. My journey to become a US citizen is still not over.

Immigrated to US in 2009 (Conditional residency)

Applied to remove conditions in December 2010 (jointly)

My husband passes away in April 4 and I get approval on 10 year card in April 11 (the day of his burial )

Someone was telling me that I can apply for citizenship right after 3 years of residency. However, I thought I needed to be married for 3 years and residing in US to be eligible.

To my understanding now I need to wait till 5 years elapse to apply...

As far as the GC the average for the 4 that have arrived to my house ( ) was about 4 weeks. The SS card once you go down to the office takes 5 days to 2 weeks

How Old is your daughter? I would suggest going down to the local SS office and Applying. When my stepkids came we had to go to the office as they were minors and the card never arrived. Good Luck

She is 8 years old. Green Card has not come either...I forgot how long it took to receive my first card. But that was long time ago...

You really scared me for a moment! No immigrant is eligible for Social Security during the first 5 years of their residency.

Luckily, you were just talking about the card. Yep, it should arrive in the mail in about two weeks. If it doesn't arrive within about 3-1/2 weeks, go to the nearest SSA office and file an SS-5 application.

My daughter who was holding IR2 visa finally made it. She arrived here on June 8. When I was filing her DS 230 I indicated the social security card can be delivered to our home address.

Is there anything else should I do (apply for social security in person for her) or wait?

I have no experience with minors immigrating to the States...Sorry if the question has been asked before...

What is the timeline for Green Card to arrive? (if anyone knows)

If there is no fraud or murder in this case, I know of no reason he would be compelled to offer an update to USCIS on his wifes death. The SS death registry will notify the government of her death.

There was no fraud or murder.She had a heart attack... Government obviously knows about the death as they have to issue the certificate...

I am writing on my friend's behalf who filed for ROC jointly. 4 months after they files his wife died.... It was a big shock ..7 days after wife's death he got notification that USCIS ordered a new card for him. He is happy and sad at the same time.

He is worried as he does not know if he needs to notify USCIS about his wife's death.. Will they revoke his new card? Should he notify the USCIS?

To my personal opinion since they approved his card he does not have to take further actions?

Anyone ever heard the same situation?

Firstly congrats to all who have been approved and got their green cards, that is amazing

We had a letter for an interview in April today, which I am a bit disappointed in as we submitted a bunch of extra evidence, but I am also a bit relieved as I think in an interview we can show them once and for all that we are for real.

Anyway just wanted to update and wondered if anyone had any tips or suggestions, or had dealt with an interview recently (it will be in NYC).

I am confused, yes I understand your approval is dependent on your biometrics date and enough information you send. But are you telling me that everyone that has filed in December Vermont service center don't have all there stuff of something like that. I was looking at January Vermont filers and they already have a few approved. Aren't they suppose to take them in the order they recieve them, so why aren't any of our December filers approved. I guess I am being impaient! Good question though!

I don't think biometrics -(date I mean )determines the speed of approval. I did my bio in January and still did not get approved, while some of the members did their bio in March and are approved already....

I am in California Service Center. I live in Vegas, not far from California. Only 5 members of December filers are left. I am among them. Hope we all get approved very fast,

It is so exciting to hear about these approvals. Looking forward to hearing my own approval as well. I filed in early December , nothing yet...Hope to get a card before I travel.

Ann, it might be a good idea to check if you need any authorization and/or affidavit from the children's other parent (assuming you have custody of both kids), to take them out of the country. Whenever my son is traveling from Brazil to US to visit me, I need to send his dad in Brazil an affidavit saying that it is OK with me for him to travel as an unaccompanied minor. The Brazilian authorities don't allow minors to travel without the paper work in order, the consent in writing by the parents. I don't know about England, but maybe you should check about that.

My daughter's biological father is dead. She just got her IR2 visa and will be travelling to the States with me. The second child -is born in here and I will get parental consent from my husband -his dad. We live together but I think I will still need his permission to take the baby out of the country

The only issue you may have is this: when going through local domestic airports you may run into personell who does not know much and thinks that only a valid GC is acceptable. They will then not check you in all the way through to the US, but only to the next airport on your itinerary.

As long as you originate in an international airport, even if the staff at the counter may have trouble approving you, they will call for a supervisor who knows what I-551 stamp and/or extension letter are. So you will be OK.

I would guess the airport security in MY country would not know about this letter of extension , so I will be held for a while until they find it out...I will be traveling with 2 kids: 1 infant and another 8 year old so I imagine how nerve racking it can be.

I just pray to get the card before I leave...
