    Any pakistani who knows someone who studied from University of Engineering & Technology Lahore or Taxila.

    I need information regarding transfer of credits.

    would it be better to get degree from pakistan (since i have only 2 and a half semesters left before i get my degree)

    or move to the usa and complete rest of the education there(not all my credit hours will transfer and i might have to take TOEFL or some other tests and i might have to study longer than i have to in study pakistan to meet the degree requirements).

    i have intentions to study further.MSc and then phd perhaps.

    what would an engineer who got his/her degree in bsc from UET lahore or taxila and then moved to usa to get his/her msc degree?

    what would a guy who studied in UET and then completed his/her degree over there in usa.(did it took longer to get the degree in usa?)

    i need suggestions.

    you must know which univ u want to attend, they will evalute your transcript and will provide you w/the classes you will be required to take for your desired degree.

    now do not forget, your undergrad education in pak is not equivlanet to US undergrad degree. So you cannot assume that since you have a bachelors from pak you also have a bachelors degree here.

    I am not an engineer nor i went to any school out-side US thus my knowledge is limited. plus, i m not an engineer but what i do know is you also have another option...there are licenses for engineers for which you have to take enigneering board exams.

    with this i must remind you getting higher education in US is not cheap=) you or your spouse might have to work while you go back to school.

    i know higher education in america is not cheap and i am not married.

    but i have talked to other poeple who were unfortunately not in engineering institutions in pakistan when they left

    they said their common courses were easily transfered.anyways thanks a lot.

    can you please explain me something i want to know

    its that as you know in case of immigrant visas its only valid for 6 months and one has to go to the usa within 6 months from the date of getting the visa.

    if one wants to go back to the native country from america one cant stay for more than 6 months one has to come back to america.

    but i have heard on special ground one can be allowed to leave usa for about 2 years.

    this is allowed in special cases like in my case i need about one year and 2 months to complete my degree so i can apply for that thing.can you explain to me what that leave is called.official and specific name.

    Indeed your credits will be transferred, as i said the school will evaluate your transcript and accept some credits. again i must recommend that you look into engineering licensure board req, many times these agencies accept foreign students and recongized foregin degrees, they have their own agencies doing degree evaluation.

    I know my brother -in-law who had PR status went to Pakistan for medicine schooling. Why not visit US every year during summer or something?

    anyhow if you want to be away for 2yrs you have to apply for reentry permit. see below

A reentry permit is not required for a trip that is shorter than one year.     actually there is only one year left till i get my degree

    i will visit usa during this summer in july and would come back to paksitan in september and continue my education.and till july 2010 i would have completed my degree.and the limit of one year wouldnt have expired.so its gonna be easy for me but i saw something on link

    but i have no intentions to stay permanently in pakistan.i want to come back just to complete my study

    it definitely says that we can return anytime but within one year

    so its gona be really easy for me

    i will go back to pakistan say in the first week of september 2009 then i have a time span of one year that is till september 2010.

    my degree would be completed by july or june.

    i think i dont have to apply for re-entry permit since i will enter us for the first time this july and i will come back in the start of september to attend my 7th semester my 8th semester is going to end in july or june 2010 which is within one year limit from september 2009.

    Oh I just want to thank you all for your support! I did not remember if I told you but I got my visa. I will be in USA in July have a few things to settle over here. Oh and guess what the wife is pregnant! :thumbs:

    Oh I also have a couple questions about the DS230, guys.

    And if so, what did you guys do about the police certificate? My wife tried and they said you cannot get a police certificate unless you get the letter from the embassy. Does that have to be sent in with the DS230 packet or can we send it in later?

    Do I understand this correctly: my wife can send me a filled out DS230 now (besides the signature and the date) plus all the accompanying documents so I can send them in to the NVC from the US? I searched a lot but I couldn't find what documents exactly need to be submitted with the DS-230 packet. Also did you send certified translation of the birth and marriage certificates, or the originals?

    Hello! I have a question you all what happens if DS-156 1/2 and DS-157 are accidentally not enclosed in packet 3.5? Please let me know I made a mistake and getting frustrated here. Ok, write me back somebody.

    Hi all

    Guess what!!!! My husband called on Saturday night and ..... we have been approved!!! :dance::dance::dance::dance: He got the notice in the mail on Saturday! It says we were actually approved on the 15th but got no notice online or anything!! Been checking everyday and nothing. even today!! not complaining though!! Aslso had no touches since October sometime. Crazy how they work. So the NVC already sent my papers to the consulate here in South Africa on the 22nd Jan. Called today and thats what they told me!! IM SO EXCITED!!!! Very nervous now but so excited!!

    Ill be thinking about all of you still out there waiting - especaill the people how filed way before me! Hopefully there is good news on the way. I would just call and ask as the web site doesnt seem to be too reliable!

    Thanks to everyone who helped me through this. And answered all my silly questions! lol

    Ill keep you all posted on what happens next!!

    I have a kinda stupid question...sorry I just totally blanked out with what i need to do next

    For the CR 1 part, we have to submit the DS-3032, I have to pay the AOS and then we have to send the IV-Packet which consists of DS-230 part I and II to NVC along with marriage certificate, police records, birth certificate, photocopy of passport, etc to NVC?

    For the K-3 part, the consulate send my husband the packet 3 which includes DS-156, DS-156K, marriage certificate, birth certificate, photos, etc etc...and then once they received, the appointment is scheduled, right?

    NVC part you are correct. K3 part you are some what right. consulate sends packet 3 which contain checklist of items you need to collect for interview, you dont send those item as packet 3. Yes, you are correct once consulate receives packet 3 they schedule interview date.

    When do I pay the K3 bill? I am not sure, but I think Dhaka embassy is pointing me to pay the $131 with the packet 3. Is it the case for everyone? or I just pay it at the time of interview? If I have to pay $131 to schedule an interview, then I have enough doubt that I would be goin with it or not.....

    Waithatter or anyone scheduled k3 interview with embassy, please clarify the case....

    What is the requirement to obtain a PCC from Karachi? My husband needs this very soon. Please reply asap. He went to the police station and they are asking for 30,000 of his money. Is this the correct fee?? They also said he must bring two witnesses with him. Please can anyone help?

    they should not charge you any money :whistle: , although they might delay it a bit. Your husband if he lives in pakistan should know somebody that can go with him the to police station.

    My wife needed the witnesses, so my father in law took like a neighbor.

    Hello fellow VJers:

    Today I received both NOA2 for the I-130 and I-129F. My husband and I are soooo happy that we finally got the approval. We are hoping that the process moves faster from now on so that he can here by the time our baby is born :dance:

    I started reading all the other threads to get my bearings on what to do next.

    For those of you who are approved in January, lets help each other out so we can fly through NVC process quicker. :dance:

    Keep all approvals updated with your progress at NVC. I am planning to call NVC tomorrow to see if they received my files from VSC. :)

    My USC husband got hardcopy from NVC yesterday stating that they already forwarded our case to our Consulate here USEM Manila. Tomorrow Monday I will call USEM for medical & interview schedule.

    Hi everyone and good luck to all of you. Lisa, why are you on AP at NVC is it for the K3 or the CR1? Narina good luck to you it wont be long. Everyone I want to say may this go smoothly for all of us....

    Now for my q's I need to know several things:

    1) When will I get the packet for my instructions for K3 visa?

    2) When do you believe that my interview can be approximately how many months from now if I get my packet in to he embassy by the 2nd week of February?

    3) Why has the NVC never generated a bill for us and how did you all find out it was generated in the first place?

    i'm getting very depressed and bored of being alone , we didn,t get separated for more than 2 months every time now , we are going to be away or almost 3 months ,10 days,6 hours and few minutes. i hate this our I130 WAS RECIEVED NOV.13TH I129F on Nov25TH ,

    when can they be approved ? they are in California center

    Oh, join the crowd. Most of us have been apart over a year! Get well soon and pray to God! Even after NOA2 the waiting is far from over. Good luck!

    No, it has not, necessarily, been moved.

    The moment your file reaches NVC, a new number is issued and it's the one that starts with whatever the abbreviation for your embassy is. MNL is Manila, ZGB is Zagreb, etc.

    So, unfortunately, the fact that you have the new number does not mean a thing.

    Right because me and a couple others have our K visa case#'s for NVC and we have not been transferred to the embassy yet. Just because you get the case# for your K visa means nothing.

    DS-3032 still not generated yet. I had some witch of a lady answer me @ NVC. I was so nice to her too! She's probably like "figure it out ya foreigner...you called yesterday and it wasn't then" <_< Anyhoo...I'll give it a few days and call again on Monday....crossing my fingers! I want to get this ball rolling!!!

    Just so I know, the AOS bill will be sent to my husband in the US and on that paper will be the IIN and we can pay online correct?

    Yup, Thats correct AOS bill will have IIN and send to petitioner.

    FYI, NVC and all government offices are closed on monday due to presidents day holiday.

    Well, they got my case# now for both cases my wife called me at her lunch break. So, where do I obtain the packet? Can you tell me one thing....what are the reasons one gets put on AP? Also, will I 100% SURE GET ap? aLSO, i NEED TO KNOW AFTER i SEND PACKET 3 WHEN WILL i GET INTERVIEW? dOES IT TAKE A LONG TIME?

    Hello! I am wondering on behalf of my brother who has also gotten his approval today. His wife has been married previously and so has he. Is he to supply her divorce documents in packet 3 or just his own? Also, what should he provide as proof of marriage is this needed for packet 3 or only at the interview? He had sent pictures in when they sent in the I-130 and I-129F packages. Also, very important question: if you filed K3 and they send the I-129F package to NVC and your photos are in that package do they go to the embassy or do they stay at NVC? This is very important to know. I need to know for me and my wife what we can start doing now that we have our NOA2. She called to get hte case# and I did not talk to her yet because she is at work, but I suppose she got it from them already. Any help would be kindly appreciated!

    How can they send the entire packet though if our I-130 will most likely still be pending by then? I don't get it. Do they send all of it and wait to approve the I-130? This don't make since to me.
